ABSTRACT This study intended to investigation the impovement of students mathematical communication by using Google SketchUp and direct Instruction, the interaction between students' learning ability and learning method in term of mathematical communication skills, and also students' attitudes toward Google SketchUp. The study used quasi experimental design and employed control group with pretest  and control final test. The population of study was eight grade students at of one a public Junior High schools in Lembang and two classes was choosen as a sample. Experimental group was used Google SketchUp and control group was used direct Instruction learning. The data were collected though students understanding of mathematical communication test, Likert scales, and student journal. The data were analyzed using quantitative and qualitative. The quantitative data were analyzed using pretest and posttest and the normalized gain of mathematical communication, and also conducted test both of groups which are performed the mean difference test between two populations and two-ways ANOVA. The qualitative data were analyzed using students' attitudes toward Google SketchUp learning. The finding of this study suggested that Google SketchUp learning was effective in improving students' of mathematical communication . More over, result showed that there is interaction between students' learning ability (high, medium, and low) in terms of students' mathematical communication and also positive students' attitude toward Google SketchUp learning. Key words:  Google SketchUp program and mathematical communication   ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menelaah peningkatan kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa yang mendapatkan pembelajaran dengan Program Google SketchUp dan pembelajaran langsung, interaksi antara pembelajaran  yang digunakan dengan kategori kemampuan siswa dalam hal kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa, serta sikap siswa terhadap pembelajaran dengan Program Google SketchUp. Desain penelitian ini adalah kuasi eksperimen dengan kelompok kontrol tes awal dan tes akhir. Populasi penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa di salah satu SMP Negeri di Lembang dengan sampel penelitian siswa  kelas VIII sebanyak dua kelas yang dipilih secara purposif. Kelompok eksperimen memperoleh pembelajaran dengan Program Google SketchUp dan kelompok kontrol memperoleh pembelajaran langsung. Untuk mendapatkan data hasil penelitian digunakan instrumen berupa tes kemampuan komunikasi matematis, skala  sikap,  dan  jurnal  siswa.  Analisis  data  dilakukan  secara  kuantitatif   dan                                                                                                                                                   kualitatif. Analisis kuantitatif dilakukan terhadap data tes awal, tes akhir, dan gain ternormalisasi kemampuan komunikasi matematis, serta terhadap data tes kedua kelompok dilakukan uji perbedaan rata-rata antara dua populasi dan ANOVA dua jalur. Analisis kualitatif dilakukan untuk menelaah sikap siswa terhadap pembelajaran Program Google SketchUp. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa peningkatan kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa yang mendapatkan pembelajaran Program Google SketchUp lebih baik daripada siswa yang mendapatkan pembelajaran langsung, terdapat suatu interaksi antara pembelajaran yang digunakan dengan kategori kemampuan (tinggi, sedang, dan rendah) siswa dalam hal kemampuan komunikasi matematis, serta sikap siswa positif terhadap pembelajaran dengan Program Google SketchUp. Abstract This study aimed to investigate the effect of the online PhET simulation-assisted using the direct instruction on students’ conceptual understanding of the parabolic motion. It was quasi-experimental research with pretest-posttest control group design. The research subjects were 10th grade students, consisting of 20 students for each experimental and control groups. The data were collected using a concept understanding test. The research data were analyzed quantitatively by using descriptive and inferential statistics. The results show that the average score of the experimental class was higher than the control class. The hypothesis was tested using Mann-Whitney (U-Test) with a significance level of = 0.05. Based on data analysis, it can be concluded that there was a significant effect of online PhET simulation assisted learning model on students’ concept understanding on parabolic motion.

This research aims to investigate the enhancement of students’ mathematical communication under metacognitive scaffolding approach. This research used a quasi-experimental design with pretest-posttest control. The subjects were pre-service elementary school teachers in Bandung. In this study, there were two groups of subjects: experimental and control groups. The experimental group consists of 60 students under metacognitive scaffolding approach, while the control group consists of 58 students under direct approach. Based on the prior mathematical ability, the students were classified into three levels, namely high, midlle, and low. Data collection instrument used mathematical communication test. The conclusions of the research are: (1) there is a significant difference in enhancing mathematical communication ability between students who attended the course under metacognitive scaffolding approach and those under direct approach, and (2) there was no significant interaction effect between teaching approaches and ability levels based on prior knowledge in enhancing students’ mathematical communication.

<p class="E-JOURNALTitle">Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan: pengaruh pembelajaran <em>problem posing</em> dan <em>direct instruction</em>, interaksi antara strategi pembelajaran dan tingkat kemampuan belajar matematika peserta didik terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis dan komunikasi matematis. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimen semu (<em>quasi experiment</em>), dengan menggunakan <em>Non-equevalent Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design</em>. Populasi penelitian ini adalah seluruh peserta didik kelas V SD Negeri Pujokusuman I Yogyakarta yang terdiri atas empat kelas. Sampel penelitian sebanyak dua kelas yang dipilih secara acak, kemudian masing-masing kelas yang terpilih dikelompokkan dalam kategori tingkat kemampuan tinggi dan tingkat kemampuan rendah terhadap kemampuan belajar matematika. Data hasil penelitian dianalisis dengan uji Manova 2 jalur dan uji t dengan kriteria Bonferroni. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat pengaruh antara pembelajaran <em>problem posing</em> dan <em>direct instruction</em> terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis dan kemampuan komunikasi matematis dan tidak terdapat interaksi antara strategi pembelajaran dan tingkat kemampuan belajar matematika peserta didik terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis dan komunikasi matematis. This study is a quasi-experimental research, using non-equevalent Pretest-Postest Control Group Design. The population was all of the grade 5 students of SD Pujokusuman I Yogyakarta that consisted of four classes. The sample was VA and VB class which were selected randomly. Data were analyzed using two-ways Manova and t-test with Bonferroni criteria. The results show that; there is an effect of the learning problem posing and direct instruction on critical thinking skills and mathematical communication skills and there is no interaction between learning strategy and the level of mathematics learning ability of students to critical thinking skills and mathematical communication. The conclusion of this study is that problem posing instruction is better than direct instruction both for high ability and low ability on critical thinking skills and mathematics communication skill grade 5 of elementary school students.</p><strong>Keywords:</strong> problem posing, direct instruction, critical thinking skills, mathematical communication skills.

This study aims to determine whether the ability of understanding and reoresentasi mathematical students who get contextual learning is higher than the capability of understanding and the mathematical representation of students who learn by direct instruction, as well as to determine whether the increased ability of comprehension and mathematical representation of students who get contextual learning is higher than increase in students who received direct instruction teaching. This study is a quasi-experimental study design with pretest posttest control group research desaign. Based on data analysis and data posttest scores normalized gain, it can be concluded that 1) the ability of understanding and abilities of students who obtain a mathematical representation of contextual learning is higher than the capability of mathematical understanding of students who received direct instruction; 2) to improve the understanding and ability of students who obtain a mathematical representation of contextual learning is higher than the increase in understanding of mathematical ability of students who received direct instruction

The main goal of this study is to present the effectiveness improvement of student’s creative thinking skills using CBL implemented in STEM education and CBL combined with worksheet PSL. The STEM education perspective used in this study is a separate science discipline (Physics) that incorporates other disciplines. The research method used in this study is a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental research design. The research includes a pre-test-post test control group design. The subjects of the research consist of forty-five students in 10th grade of one of the vocational schools. The instrument used in this study is an essay test consisting of four questions with indicators of fluency, flexibility, and originality. The enhancement of students’ creative thinking skills is known by analyzing normalized gain (g) on the experimental group and control group. A non-parametric test and Cohen’s Kappa test were used to examine differences improvement of student’s creative thinking skills with the IBM Statistics SPSS 20.00 program at .05 significant levels. As a result of the research, it was found that CBL implemented in STEM education has a higher improvement for students of creative thinking skills than CBL combined with worksheet PSL. CBL implemented in STEM education also has a major impact on improvement of students’ creative thinking skills.

Aim of the Study: This research aimed at knowing the effectiveness of using multimedia on both academic attainments, and developing the attitude towards the Islamic Jurisprudence of sixth primary students. Assumptions of the Research: The research selected the following assumptions: There are not statistical significant differences at (0.05) level between the averages of the scores of pre and post academic attainments of the experimental and control group. There are not statistical significant differences at (0.05) level in academic attainments between the experimental and control group. There are statistical significant differences at (0.05) level between the students' average scores on the scale of the pre attitude and between the students' average scores on the scale of the post attitude of the control group. Procedures of the Research: The researcher has used the quasi experimental method, The research has been applied on a sample of( 34) students. These students have been divided into two groups; control group with (17) students, and experimental group with (17) students. The Used Statistical Methods: The researcher has used Holistic equation in order to measure the reliability of content analysis. Also, he used Kuder-Rishadr Son equation and Qausi division method to measure the reliability of the academic attainments test. Furthermore, he used Alpha Cronpah equation to measure the reliability of the attitude scale. Finally, he used T-test. The Most Important Results of the Study: There are statistical significant differences between the scores' average of the post test among the students of the experimental group and the control group. The result is for the sake of the experimental group. There are statistical significant differences between the scores' average of the pre and post test of the experimental group, for the sake of the post test. There are statistical significant differences between the scores' average of post scale of the control group, for the sake of the experimental group.

The purpose of this study was to determine the influence of media-based learning moodle to increase students' generic skills in materials science impulse and momentum. The method used is the method of quasi-experimental research design with untreated control group design with pretest and posttest. A total of 53 students were divided into experimental group and control group were included in this study. Research instruments using generic science skills test in the form of descriptions about. Data analysis using the test "mean-difference" and "normalized gain scores". Based on the results of this study concluded that the use of media-based learning moodle does not result in a significant increase in the ability of generic science class experiment between students and classroom control. But based on the achievement of values, the average value of the ability of generic science experiments grade higher than the control class. Keywords: Moodle-Based Learning Media, Generic Skills

The objective of this study is to measure whether there is or not significant effect of teaching reading by utilizing Hot Potatoes software toward students’ reading comprehension of descriptive text. The variables used were the teaching treatment of Hot Potatoes Software as the independent variable and the students’ reading comprehension of Descriptive Text as dependent variable. Then, the research designed was Quasi-experimental design and the presentation of data used was quantitative. The data were obtained from the eleventh grade, of which 28 students were taken as sample. The students are divided into two groups; experiment group consisted of 12 students and control group consists of 16 students. To get the data, the pre-test and post-test were applied and then analyzed using t-test formula. The researcher had concluded that there is Significant effect of Hot Potatoes Software toward the students’ reading comprehension achievement. The result showed that mean of students’ post-test was increased. It is proved by the t-test (8.54) which is higher than t-table (2.05) at level of significance 5%. It means that the alternative hypothesis was accepted and it proved that Hot Potatoes Software had significant effect toward students’ reading comprehension of Descriptive Text

The problem of this study is “Does Concept Oriented Reading Instruction (CORI) enhance students’ reading achievement?” The design of this study was quasi-experimental. The sample of this study was taken from the population by using purposive sampling. The experimental group consisted of 39 students while the control group consisted of 35 students. The data were collected by using two instruments; test and questionnaire. The test was given twice to each group in order to see whether or not there was significance difference of pretest and posttest either in experimental or control group and whether or not there was significance difference of experimental and control group in terms of their posttest score. To prove the hypothesis, the data from pretest and posttest of experimental and control group were analyzed by applying paired sample t-test and independent sample t-test. The calculation was run by using SPSS computer program. The result of the study shows there was significance difference of students’ reading achievement between experimental and control group. Besides, the use of CORI as reading strategies was proved as effective reading strategies to enhance students’ reading achievement. Teaching materials by integrating local culture makes easier for students to understand the subject matter in the learning process. The aims of the study is to measure the effectiveness of teaching materials based on local wisdom of agriculture in Binjai in improving the students problem solving abilities. The research method was a quasi experimental which use non equivalent control group in the pretest posttest design. The sample of study were students of Senior High School grade X in Binjai that consisted of experiment group which used teaching materials based on local wisdom of agriculture in Binjai and control group that used student handbooks. Teaching materials are tested by material experts and technology experts to ensure the quality of teaching materials. Data collection was conducted through test. The results showed that the teaching materials based on local wisdom of agriculture in Binjai effective in improving students problem solving abilities in the experimental group students based on the results of N gain value was 0.67 which has medium criteria. It means teaching materials based on agricultural local wisdom of agriculture in Binjai can be used as one of the teaching materials in learning activities.
