Abstract This study compares data from the two Society of Automotive Engineers test methods for rolling resistance: J-2452 (Stepwise Coast-Down) and J-1269 (Equilibrium) steady state. The ability of the two methods to evaluate tires was examined by collecting data for 12 tires. The data were analyzed and the data showed that the two methods ranked the tires the same after the data were regressed and the rolling resistance magnitude was calculated at the Standard Reference Condition. In addition, analysis of the two methods using this matched set of testing provided an opportunity to evaluate each of these test standards against the other. It was observed that each test has merits absent from the other.

Tyre rolling resistance is very important to energy conservation and vehicle emissions. The main test methods of rolling resistance and their disadvantages are elaborated in this paper. In order to prepare for the (EC) No 1222/2009 and ECE R117, comparative analysis of ECE and GB are taken. It's important for the tyre company inboard export tyre to Europe. The influence of tyre pressure, test speed, load and environment temperature for the rolling resistance are studied, and lay the foundation for accurately measuring rolling resistance.

The mechanism whereby gastrin-type receptor and muscarinic M3-type receptor regulate free intracellular Ca2+ concentration ([Ca2+]i) was studied in rabbit gastric parietal cells stimulated by either gastrin or carbachol. Both agonists induced a biphasic [Ca2+]i response: a transient [Ca2+]i rise, followed by a sustained steady state depending on extracellular Ca2+. Gastrin and carbachol also caused a rapid and transient increase in Mn2+ influx (a tracer for bivalent-cation entry). Pre-stimulation of cells with one agonist drastically decreased both [Ca2+]i increase and Mn2+ influx induced by the other. Neither diltiazem nor pertussistoxin treatment had any effect on agonist-stimulated Mn2+ entry. Thapsigargin, a Ca(2+)-pump inhibitor, induced a biphasic [Ca2+]i increase, and enhanced the rate of Mn2+ entry. Preincubation of cells with thapsigargin inhibits the [Ca2+]i increase as well as Mn2+ entry stimulated by gastrin or by carbachol. Thapsigargin induced a weak but significant increase in Ins(1,4,5)P3 content, but this agent had no effect on the agonist-evoked Ins(1,4,5)P3 response. In permeabilized parietal cells, Ins(1,4,5)P3 and caffeine caused an immediate Ca2+ release from intracellular pools, followed by a reloading of Ca2+ pools which can be prevented in the presence of thapsigargin. We conclude that (i) gastrin and carbachol mobilize common Ca2+ intracellular stores, (ii) Ca2+ permeability secondary to receptor activation involves neither a voltage-sensitive Ca2+ channel nor a GTP-binding protein from the G1 family, and (iii) agonists regulate common Ca2+ channels in depleting intracellular Ca2+ stores.

Memory is considered to be a flexible and reconstructive system. However, there is little experimental evidence demonstrating how associations are falsely constructed in memory, and even less is known about the role of the self in memory construction. We investigated whether false associations involving non-presented stimuli can be constructed in episodic memory and whether the self plays a role in such memory construction. In two experiments, we paired participants’ own names (i.e., self-reference) or the name “Adele” (i.e., other-reference) with words and pictures from Deese/Roediger–McDermott (DRM) lists. We found that (1) participants not only falsely remembered the non-presented lure words and pictures as having been presented, but also misremembered that they were paired with their own name or “Adele,” depending on the referenced person of related DRM lists; and (2) there were more critical lure–self associations constructed in the self-reference condition than critical lure–other associations in the other-reference condition for word but not for picture stimuli. These results suggest a self-enhanced constructive effect that might be driven by both relational and item-specific processing. Our results support the spreading-activation account for constructive episodic memory.

We extend the dynamic Heckscher–Ohlin model in Bond et al. [Economic Theory(48, 171–204, 2011)] and show that if the labor-intensive good is inferior, then there may exist multiple steady states in autarky and poverty traps can arise. Poverty traps for the world economy, in the form of Pareto-dominated steady states, are also shown to exist. We show that the opening of trade can have the effect of pulling the initially poorer country out of a poverty trap, with both countries having steady state capital stocks exceeding the autarky level. However, trade can also pull an initially richer country into a poverty trap. These possibilities are a sharp contrast with dynamic Heckscher–Ohlin models with normality in consumption, where the country with the larger (smaller) capital stock than the other will reach a steady state where the level of welfare is higher (lower) than in the autarkic steady state.

AbstractMany experimental data along with their theoretical interpretations on the rf low-temperature cylindrical plasma have been issued until today. Our Laboratory has contributed to that research by publishing results and interpretative mathematical models. With the present paper, two issues are being examined; firstly, the estimation of electron drift caused by the rf field gradient, which is the initial reason for the plasma behaviour, and secondly, many new experimental results, especially the electron-neutral collision frequency effect on the other plasma parameters and quantities. Up till now, only the plasma steady state was taken into consideration when a theoretical elaboration was carried out, regardless of the cause and the effect. This indicates the plasma's complicated and chaotic configuration and the need to simplify the problem. In the present work, a classification about the causality of the phenomena is attempted; the rf field gradient electron drift is proved to be the initial cause.

This paper studies the evolution of wealth inequality in an economy with endogenous borrowing constraints. In the model economy, young agents need to borrow to finance human capital investments but cannot commit to repaying their loans. Creditors can punish defaulters by banishing them permanently from the credit market. At equilibrium, loan default is prevented by imposing a borrowing limit tied to the borrower's inheritance. The heterogeneity in inheritances translates into heterogeneity in borrowing limits: endogenously, some borrowers face a zero borrowing limit, and some are partly constrained, whereas others are unconstrained. Depending on the initial distribution of inheritances, it is possible that all lineages are attracted either to the zero-borrowing-limit steady state or to the unconstrained-borrowing steady state—long-run equality. It is also possible that some lineages end up in one steady state and the rest in the other—complete polarization.

We investigate the transfer of bipartite (measured by cocurrence) and multipartite (measured by global discord) quantum correlations though spin chains under phase decoherence. The influence of phase decoherence and anisotropy parameter upon quantum correlations transfer is investigated. On the one hand, in the case of no phase decoherence, there is no steady state quantum correlations between spins. On the other hand, if the phase decoherence is larger than zero, the bipartite quantum correlations can be transferred through a Heisenberg XXX chain for a long time and there is steady state bipartite entanglement. For a Heisenberg XX chain, bipartite entanglement between two spins is destroyed completely after a long time. Multipartite quantum correlations of all spins are more robust than bipartite quantum correlations. Thus, one can store multipartite quantum correlations in spin chains for a long time under phase decoherence.

Pancreatic islets detect glucose level by phosphorylating it and converting the glycolytic rate to a signal to secrete insulin. Insulin secretion is greater from the alpha- than from the beta-anomer when the D-glucose level is below 22 mM. D-mannose behaves similarly but at nearly twofold higher concentrations. Two explanations have been proposed: 1) glucokinase, which has the same anomeric preference, is the principal hexose phosphorylating enzyme and limits glycolytic rate. 2) Phosphofructokinase limits glycolysis and hexokinase is the principal enzyme phosphorylating hexose; hexosediphosphate activators of phosphofructokinase are more readily synthesized from alpha-anomers of hexose phosphates. We have simulated both alternatives with a detailed anomerically specific model of the hexose-metabolizing glycolytic enzymes. The pathway preference for alpha-anomer of both hexoses was adequately reproduced with anomerically active limiting glucokinase. The other mechanism did not reproduce the observed pathway preference.

β2-Adrenergic receptors (β2-AR) expressed on airway epithelial and smooth muscle cells regulate mucociliary clearance and relaxation and are the targets for β-agonists in the treatment of obstructive lung disease. However, the clinical responses display extensive interindividual variability, which is not adequately explained by genetic variability in the 5′-flanking or coding region of the intronless β2-AR gene. The nonsynonymous coding polymorphism most often associated with a bronchodilator phenotype (Arg16) is found within three haplotypes that differ by the number of Cs (11, 12, or 13) within a 3′-untranslated region (UTR) poly-C tract. To examine potential effects of this variability on receptor expression, BEAS-2B cells were transfected with constructs containing the β2-AR (Arg16) coding sequence followed by its 3′-UTR with the various polymorphic poly-C tracts. β2Arg16-11C had 25% lower mRNA expression and 33% lower β2-AR protein expression compared with the other two haplotypes. Consistent with this lower steady-state expression, β2Arg16-11C mRNA displayed more rapid and extensive degradation after actinomycin D treatment compared with β2Arg16-12C and -13C. However, β2Arg16-12C underwent 50% less downregulation of receptor expression during β-agonist exposure compared with the other two haplotypes. Thus these haplotypes direct a potential low-response phenotype due to decreased steady-state receptor expression combined with wild-type agonist-promoted downregulation (β2Arg16-11C) and a high-response phenotype due to increased baseline expression combined with decreased agonist-promoted downregulation (β2Arg16-12C). This heterogeneity may contribute to the variability of clinical responses to β-agonist, and genotyping to identify these 3′-UTR polymorphisms may improve predictive power within the context of β2-AR haplotypes in pharmacogenetic studies.

Abstract Heat exchanger is a device that transfers heat between hot and cold fluids. Due to the different size and type, the actual heat transfer performance is usually not the same as the design value. Meanwhile, various heat exchangers using new types of heat transfer elements have emerged, bringing the difficulty to obtain the heat transfer performance by only theoretical calculation. Therefore, studying test methods and developing test standards for heat exchangers have become the research focus in many countries. In this paper, the basic principles of various performance test methods are firstly introduced, including Wilson plot method, equal Reynolds number method and nonlinear fitting method. Then the restrictions on the use of these methods and the factors affecting the test results are analyzed. Finally, the Chinese codes and standards of performance testing for heat exchangers are listed, including JB/T 10379-2002, GB/T 27698-2011 and TSG R0010-2019. The test methods used in GB/T 27698 are described in detail. The results show that GB 27698 mainly focus on the specification of testing systems and procedures and can test heat transfer performance of almost all types of heat exchangers in industry under different heat transfer modes. However, there are lack of formulas and methods for calculating uncertainty of testing results.
