The following article1 is the report of an American Diabetes Association task force that summarizes the recent literature on tests and measures to identify people at risk for foot ulceration and to recommend what should be included in the comprehensive foot exam for adult patients with diabetes. Although this information would be timely and pertinent for physical therapists at any time, its content is particularly complementary to the content of PTJ's Special Issue on Diabetes. This article has been reprinted with permission of the American Diabetes Association from Boulton AJM, Armstrong DG, Albert SF, et al. Language is powerful and can have a strong impact on perceptions as well as behavior. A task force, consisting of representatives from the American Association of Diabetes Educators and the American Diabetes Association, convened to discuss language in diabetes care and education. The literature supports the need for a language movement in diabetes care and education. There are effective ways of communicating about diabetes. This article provides recommendations for language used by health care professionals and others when discussing diabetes through spoken or written words, whether directed to people with diabetes, colleagues, or the general public, as well as research questions related to language and diabetes.

✓ The AANS was founded in 1931 as an educational and scientific organization whose principal purpose was to foster optimum neurosurgical care. Because socioeconomic and political pressures on medicine generally and neurosurgery specifically have escalated in recent years, the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) has been required to respond effectively to matters beyond its traditional role. However, the AANS has lacked an effective, focused policymaking process to deal with socioeconomic concerns despite existing expertise within the specialty. The AANS now needs to develop a comprehensive socioeconomic effort that is consistent with its more traditional educational and scientific activities. A Task Force on Governance has been appointed to address how the Association's governance structure can reflect all the needs of our specialty in times of economic uncertainty and health care reform.
