Fuzzy set theory and fuzzy logic have been successfully developed in engineering and mathematics. However, these concepts have found great acceptance in social sciences in recent years since they provide an answer to those problems in the real world that cannot be modeled using classical mathematics. In this paper, we propose a new methodology for accounting science based on fuzzy triangular numbers. The methodology uses Hamming distance between fuzzy triangular numbers and arithmetic operations to evaluate corporate governance of multinational public stock corporations (PSCs) in the telecommunications sector.

Application of configurational approach and fuzzy set theory on social and behavioral science variable models needs more attention. Few social science researches have employed configurational methods of research to empirically investigate a research question. On the front of exploring unique and innovative ways of investigation, this paper discusses the application of fuzzy set theory in social sciences. The study primarily takes a model of emotional labor and employee well‑being as a case example to depict how configurational models are developed. The study examines emotional labor and well‑being, not as predictor or criterion variables, but rather as conditions and outcome. The study also distinguishes between correlational and configurational method of research and adopts a descriptive approach by taking five research papers that examine social and behavioral science constructs from a configurational approach. Scarcity of literature in the crossover between the mathematical models and social sciences, particularly for the respective variables, call for a study that can clarify the initial queries surrounding fuzzy set models and pave the way for future empirical studies. The research concludes that utilizing mathematical models like fuzzy set theory, configuration and qualitative comparative analysis in social sciences can break monotony and bring newness in approaching as well as addressing a research query. This paper draws attention towards exploring new avenues in research methodologies. Application of newer methods would not only increase the rigor and precision of research findings but also assist in approaching a research area from multiple angles thereby enhancing the research quality.

AbstractThe quantity-quality debate in social sciences also concerns concept formation and operationalization. The first approach has strong naturalist assumptions, while the second one focuses on the historical specificity of concepts. The solution to overcome this divide would be finding a path which balances the two perspectives. In this article we argue that fuzzy set theory can be a helpful tool for concept formation and operationalization. The application of fuzzy set theory to concept formation and operationalization provides, first, the opportunity of looking at concepts as complex constructs made up of attributes logically interconnected one with the other and, second, of measuring them accordingly. Thus, after presenting our general argument, we show a theoretical and an empirical application of how to use fuzzy sets in concept formation and operationalization.

Fuzzy Set Theory – From Formal Sciences to Legal Sciences: An Introduction in the Light of the Achievements of Polish Legal LinguisticsAn example of the correlation of thought between the formal sciences, which are a foundation of the natural sciences, and the humanities is the fuzzy set theory. It is the source of a new research paradigm in relation to the surrounding reality, as well as in relation to man himself and his perception of the world. Nowadays, the fuzzy set theory is very widespread in cognitive linguistics. The aim of the article is to show the historical and substantive relations between the formal sciences and linguistics existing thanks to the theory of fuzzy sets, as well as to pose the question about the usefulness of this theory for Polish social sciences, which include legal sciences. The justification of the research question stems from the recognition of the fact that the constituted law manifests itself through language, which is its exclusive carrier. Teoria zbiorów rozmytych – od nauk formalnych po nauki prawne. Wprowadzenie do problematyki w świetle osiągnięć polskiej lingwistyki prawaPrzykładem korelacji myślowej zachodzącej pomiędzy naukami formalnymi, stanowiącymi podwalinę nauk przyrodniczych, a naukami humanistycznymi jest teoria zbiorów rozmytych. Stanowi ona źródło nowego paradygmatu badawczego względem otaczającej człowieka rzeczywistości, a także względem jego samego i jego postrzegania świata. Obecnie teoria zbiorów rozmytych jest bardzo rozpowszechniona na gruncie językoznawstwa kognitywnego. Celem artykułu jest ukazanie historycznych i merytorycznych związków pomiędzy naukami formalnymi a językoznawstwem, istniejących dzięki teorii rozmytości, a także  postawienie pytania o przydatność tej teorii dla polskich nauk społecznych, do których zaliczają się nauki prawne. Uzasadnienie pytania badawczego wynika z dostrzeżenia faktu, iż prawo stanowione przejawia się poprzez język, który jest jego wyłącznym nośnikiem.
