Discochora yuccae sp. nov. and its conidial anamorph Phyllosticta yuccae sp. nov. and spermatial synanamorph Leptodothiorella notabilis Petrak & Ciferri are described. The fungus causes a leaf-blotch disease of Yucca spp. and is distinguished by the long, cylindrical asci and relatively large, ellipsoidal ascospores. New combinations in Discochora are made for nine species previously assigned to Guignardia (auct.) and occurring on Liliales. One new combination is made in Botryosphaeria.

A new species of Specklinia with a repent growth habit and minute purple flowers is described and illustrated. The new species is distinguished from Specklinia wrightii based on its morphological and molecular distinctness from that species. The phylogenetic placement of the new species is provided based on an nrITS tree. The species described here represents the first new orchid to be described from material originating from the Parc National Naturel Macaya in six years. New combinations are made in Acianthera for species of Kraenzlinella and Pleurothallis subgen. Antilla embedded within the genus. In particular Kraenzlinella rinkei is provided as a new synonym for Specklinia montezumae and Specklinia simpliciflora is transferred to Acianthera sect. Antilla based on morphology and geographic distribution.

It is herein presented Ruehssia sumiderensis as a new species known only in the Cañón del Sumidero National Park, in Chiapas, Mexico. It is illustrated with a line drawing, live images and SEM photographs of the gynostegium and pollinarium. Morphological and molecular evidence with plastid data (trnL intron and trnL-F intergenic spacer) confirms its position in Ruehssia, a recently proposed genus that includes American Marsdenieae species. It is similar to Marsdenia laxiflora and M. pinetorum due to the basally rounded or truncate leaves, rotate corolla without callous cushions in the sinuses. Two new combinations are also made in Ruehssia, for M. laxiflora and M. pinetorum.

Following recent molecular phylogenetic studies in Old World Gesneriaceae the nomenclatural implications for names in Henckelia are examined. New combinations are made in Codonoboea and Loxocarpus to account for species now excluded from Henckelia. A list is presented in which the current position of all species hitherto assigned to Henckelia is given, including the new combination Henckelia rotundata (Barnett) D.J.Middleton & Mich.Möller. A new combination in Oreocharis is made.

Eight new species of marine algae, and one new variety, are described from the region of Monterey, California. One of them is a brown alga; the rest are red algae. New species are added to the genera Coilodesme, Peyssonelia, Rhodophysema, Halymenia, Kallymenia, Rhodymenia, Nitophyllum, and Laurencia. A new variety of Botryoglossum is proposed. Three of the new species are intertidal and the remaining species are subtidal. New combinations are made in the genera Pseudogloiophloea, Gelidium, and Iridaea.

An emendation of the Phacidiaceae is presented. Of 24 genera placed in the family by previous authors, only 2, Lophophacidium and Phacidium (=Phacidiostroma) are retained. Four new species are described, and three new combinations made, in Phacidium. The Apostrasseria or Ceuthospora anamorphs of six of these are also described. Phacidium symplocinum is made the type species of a new genus, Ascluella, tentatively maintained in the Dermateaceae. The new combinations, Coccomyces gaultheriae, Odontotrema sieversiae, Pseudophacidium kumaonense, and Schizoxylon hemisphaericum, are introduced.

A sequel to earlier papers on bryophytes and macrolichens, this treatment describes the distribution and general ecology of 314 microlichen taxa for 230 000 km2 of coniferous forest, open fens, and alpine terrain along the Mackenzie River in the District of Mackenzie, Northwest Territories, and the Peel River, a major tributary which extends into the Yukon Territory. There are 103 new reports for the District of Mackenzie and 69 for the Yukon. Of the taxa, 87% are found in Europe and Asia as well as in North America, 1% are known only from Asia and North America; and 9% are restricted to North America. Staurothele sessilis Magn. is new to Canada, while Sagiolechia protuberans (Ach.) Mass., Staurothele hymenogonia (Nyl.) Th.Fr., and two lichen parasites, Didymosphaeria epicrassa (Oliv.) Vouax and Lahmia fuistingii Körb. are new to North America.Seven new combinations are made in Aspicilia: A. aliena (Zahlbr.) Thoms., A. anseris (Lynge) Thoms., A. elevata (Lynge) Thoms., A. perradiata (Nyl.) Thoms., A. ryrkaipiae (Magn.) Thoms., A. sorediza (Lynge) Thoms., and A. subplicigera (Magn.) Thoms.
