Abstract. In zwei 16 bzw. 26 m über Meeresspiegel gelegenen Seen sind Pollen- und Sedimentanalysen durchgeführt worden. Der Beginn der präborealen Chronozone ist hier durch eine Regression gekennzeichnet, die wahrscheinlich durch eine kurz dauernde Transgression unterbrochen gewesen ist. Eine rasche und recht bedeutsame Transgression, die mit der Ancylus-Transgression korreliert wird, setzte in beiden Lokalitäten um ca. 9000 v. h. ein. Zwischen ca. 9500 und 8500 v. h. wurden beide Seen vom Meer abgeschnürt, aber es ist bislang unbekannt, in welcher Höhenlage diese Regression ausgeklungen ist.

In 1977 field work was concerned with the lujavrites and kakortokites of the south-eastern part of the Ilimaussaq alkaline intrusion (see Andersen & Bohse, this report), pegmatites and veins within the intrusion, the Narssaq intrusion situated to the west of the Ilimaussaq intrusion, and the environmental geochemistry and the ecology of the Narssaq region. Preliminary results of the field work and of some of the laboratory investigations are reported below. It should also be mentioned that a diamond drilling programme was carried out in the uraniferous rocks of the Kvanefjeld area in the northern part of the Ilimaussaq intrusion (see Nyegaard, this report).

AbstractThe preliminary results of the mineralogical and geochemical investigations of ultramafic (peridotite and pyroxenite) and mafic (olivine gabbro) rocks from the Mazurovski Field of the Oktiabrski Massif in South-eastern Ukraine are presented in this paper. Peridotite is mainly composed of olivine (forsterite), pyroxene (diallage), plagioclase (labradorite) and ore minerals such as magnetite, ilmenite and pyrite. Antigorite and talk are secondary components. Diallage with subordinate plagioclase, olivine and Fe compounds (oxides/sulphides) are found in pyroxenite. Gabro is made of two generations of plagioclase, diallage, olivine, biotite and amphiboles (hornblende and actinolite). Chlorite, talk and ore minerals (ilmenite, pyrite, Fe oxides/hydroxides) occur as its subordinate components. On the basis of their mineral composition peridotite was classified as wehrlite, pyroxenite as clinopyroxenite, whereas the mafic rocks are represented by olivine gabbro. The mafic rocks are most likely products orginating from calc-alkaline magma. Owing to the fact that chromite was not identified in periodite, it is very probable that this rock is loco-temperature differentation product of ultramorfic rocks. The ultrabasic rocks and enriched with Al2O3, CaO and Fe and complethy impoverished of REES and alkalis. Only one olivine gabbro shows some amounts of REEs (0.096 wt.% REEs with the distinct predominance of LREE over HREE) and alkalis (2.89–4.0 wt.% Na2O + K2O), which are surely genetically associated with alkaline rocks occurring in the near vicinity of the ultramafic and mafic rocks of the Oktiabrski Massif. The enrichment of gabbro in REEs and alkalis most probably proceeded post-magmatic activity.

The main aim of the study was to indicate relational premises in the cooperation between industry organisations and farms with conservative breeds (cattle, pigs, and sheep). It has been assumed that the processes of integration of domestic animal breeders depend on the state of the relationships established (in terms of quality, sustainability, dependence and uniqueness) with industry organisations. The research was carried out on the basis of an interview questionnaire (in 2017) with farmers from south-eastern Poland, representatives of organisations, and a review of secondary sources describing the activities of industry organisations since the beginning of their existence. The specificity of the entities under analysis stems from their role and responsibilities. Breeders contribute to the growth of biodiversity, while industry organisations are an important partner in their relationships as they support farms (they mediate in the contracting process, organise trainings, represent the interests of producers in Poland and abroad). Preliminary results of the research indicate that the best conditions for cooperation are in the networks of breeders of conservative breeds of pigs as well as in interorganisational relationships with the ‘POLSUS’ industry organisation.

In this paper are presented preliminary results of seasonal statistical approach on monitoring of a series of drilled water well corresponding on a surface of about a quarter of Galati County which has a total area of 4,466 square km. In order to offer an adequate picture of the status of this natural resource we started a monthly monitoring program that cover approximatively 20 monitoring points for two years. The study is an extension of previous research, with a total of 21 sampling points.

AbstractA widely used tool in studying quasi-monoperiodic processes is the O–C diagram. This paper deals with the application of this diagram in minor planet studies. The main difference between our approach and the classical O–C diagram is that we transform the epoch (=time) dependence into the geocentric longitude domain. We outline a rotation modelling using this modified O–C and illustrate the abilities with detailed error analysis. The primary assumption, that the monotonity and the shape of this diagram is (almost) independent of the geometry of the asteroids is discussed and tested. The monotonity enables an unambiguous distinction between the prograde and retrograde rotation, thus the four-fold (or in some cases the two-fold) ambiguities can be avoided. This turned out to be the main advantage of the O–C examination. As an extension to the theoretical work, we present some preliminary results on 1727 Mette based on new CCD observations.

AbstractThe records of sunspot number, sunspot areas and sunspot locations gathered over the centuries by various observatories are reanalysed with the aim of finding as yet undiscovered connections between the different parameters of the sunspot cycle and the butterfly diagram. Preliminary results of such interrelationships are presented.

Several outstanding problems affecting the existing parallaxes should be resolved to form a coherent system for the new General Catalogue proposed by van Altena, as well as to improve luminosity calibrations and other parallax applications. Lutz has reviewed several of these problems, such as: (A) systematic differences between observatories, (B) external error estimates, (C) the absolute zero point, and (D) systematic observational effects (in right ascension, declination, apparent magnitude, etc.). Here we explore the use of cluster and spectroscopic parallaxes, and the distributions of observed parallaxes, to bring new evidence to bear on these classic problems. Several preliminary results have been obtained.

Preliminary results reported last year on the ion etching of tobacco mosaic virus indicated that the diameter of the virus decreased more rapidly at 10KV than at 5KV, perhaps reaching a constant value before disappearing completely.In order to follow the effects of ion etching on TMV more quantitatively we have designed and built a second apparatus (Fig. 1), which incorporates monitoring devices for measuring ion current and vacuum as well as accelerating voltage. In addition, the beam diameter has been increased to approximately 1 cm., so that ten electron microscope grids can be exposed to the beam simultaneously.
