During this investigation, a new species of Melanoleuca subg. Urticocystis with urticiform cheilocystidia is proposed. The identification is based on morphological characters and molecular phylogenetic analyses using ITS and 28S sequences. A comparison of the morphological features and molecular phylogenetic data with the taxa of subg. Urticocystis confirms the identity of the species as a new taxon. The detailed descriptions, line drawings and phylogenetic results are given.

A new species, Amanita glarea, is described and illustrated from Pakistan. Molecular phylogenetic data derived from internal transcribed spacer (ITS) and nuclear ribosomal large subunit (LSU) regions along with morphological characters make it distinct from other currently known Amanita species. Amanita glarea is characterized by a grayish brown, slightly umbonate, pileus having universal veil remnants and striate margins, a long ringless stipe with a saccate volva bearing yellowish brown patches on the verrucose surface, inamyloid globose to subglobose basidiospores, and a filamentous pileipellis with some inflated round to elongated cells. Phylogenetic analysis of nuclear ribosomal ITS and LSU nucleotide sequences resolve A. glarea with other taxa in Amanita section Vaginatae.

A new species of chameleon is described from the humid montane forests on Mt. Nyiro in northern Kenya. The new species is clearly distinct from its congeners by external morphology, especially the gular field with long pointed appendicular scales, and geographical isolation. Based on both the morphology and molecular phylogenetic data, we place the new species into the recently described genus Kinyongia.

AbstractEusporangiate fern genus Ophioglossum L. is commonly known as Adder’s tongue fern as its fertile frond gives the appearance of snake tongue. A new species in this fern genus, O. trilokinathii belonging to Ophioglossaceae family has been discovered from the plateau region of Rajasthan State of northwestern India. The new species can be distinguished from other taxa of this genus by its smaller habit, subglobose-tuberous rhizome, basipetal emergence of young roots, aggregation of old decaying roots on rhizome apex, fertile stalk as well as spike short and thick, trophophylls in rosette, ovate or orbicular and a unique sporoderm sculpture pattern under SEM having broad reticulations with thick and raised muri enclosing large hexagonal or irregular areas on the distal and proximal faces of the spores hitherto unreported in any of the presently known taxa of Ophioglossum. In addition, comparative study of stomatal structure, foliar anatomy and nucleotide sequence data of its three chloroplast DNA markers (trnL-F, rbcL and psbA-trnH) was carried out. In view of all the attributes including habitat, ecology, morphology, foliar anatomy, stomatal features, palynology and molecular phylogenetic data, the present study suggests that the Ophioglossum specimen collected from plateau region of Rajasthan represents a hitherto undescribed species thereby warranting its establishment as O. trilokinathii sp. nov. A detailed comparative account of the new taxon with its allied species has also been provided.

Efibula yunnanensis is proposed as a distinct new species based on morphological and molecular phylogenetic data. The species is characterized by an annual growth habit, resupinate basidiomata with smooth, cream to pale brown hymenial surface, a monomitic hyphal system with thin-walled, simple septate generative hyphae and ellipsoid, hyaline, thin-walled, smooth, IKI-, CB-basidiospores. The phylogenetic analyses based on ITS sequence data analyses revealed that E. yunnanensis was sister to a clade comprised E. clarkii and E. gracilis, and then grouped with E. americana and E. tuberculata.

Rimicaris hybisaesp. nov. is described from hydrothermal vent fields on the world's deepest seafloor spreading centre, the Mid-Cayman Spreading Centre (MCSC), Caribbean, at depths of 2300–4960 m. The new species is described and illustrated on the basis of 17 specimens. Brief notes on the distribution and habitat of the new species are provided. Molecular phylogenetic data from mitochondrial COI (460 base pair (bp)), 16S ribosomal RNA (549 bp) and nuclear 18S ribosomal RNA (576 bp) regions is used to complement the description. Morphological variation withinR. hybisaesp. nov. and morphological affinities with previously described species are discussed. Based on morphological and molecular evidence, the new species is provisionally assigned to the genusRimicaris, and differs from all known species in the genus by a distinctive pair of ‘pores' on the posterior lobes of its four-lobed dorsal organ. An emended diagnosis forRimicarisis provided.Rimicaris hybisaesp. nov. is the first taxon to be described from MCSC vent fields. This record extends the known geographical range ofRimicarisinto the Caribbean Sea and constitutes the deepest documented occurrence of alvinocaridid shrimp.
