The Syrphidae genus Domodon Reemer, 2013 so far included two species, D. zodiacus Reemer, 2013 and D. peperpotensis Reemer, 2014, both recorded only from Suriname. Additional specimens belonging to this genus have been collected in many other localities in South and Central America. In this paper, the genus is revised and three new species are described: D. caxiuana sp. nov. (northern South America), D. inaculeatus sp. nov. (northern South America), and D. sensibilis sp. nov. (Costa Rica). The distribution of D. peperpotensis is extended to include French Guiana. Photographs of the type material of the new species and illustrations of male genitalia of all species are provided, as well as a key to species.

Three new species of Ficus are described and illustrated. F. nebulosilvana which is restricted to the cloud forest of western Andes in Colombia and Ecuador, F. palmarensis which is restricted to the cloud forests of Chocó in Colombia, and F. plectonervata which is distributed from the central biogeographic region of Chocó in Colombia to Costa Rica. Species conservation assessments are presented and the taxonomic relationships of the new species and etymology are discussed.

The huntsman spider genus Anaptomecus was proposed by Simon (1903) to include the type species, A. longiventris Simon, 1903, described from a juvenile male collected in Cayambé (San Pedro de Cayambé), Pichincha, Ecuador. Mello-Leitão (1940) described a second species, A. rufescens, from a female collected in Essequibo River, Guyana. The genus remained unstudied until the early 2000’s when Jäger et al. (2009) described the adult male and female of A. longiventris and transferred A. rufescens to Sparianthina Banks, 1929. In this same paper, the authors described A. temii Jäger, Rheims & Labarque, 2009, based on a male from Panama, and A. levyi Jäger, Rheims & Labarque, 2009, based on a female from Colombia. A few years later, Guala et al. (2012), increased the number of known species with the descriptions of A. paru Guala, Labarque & Rheims, 2012 and A. suni Guala, Labarque & Rheims, 2012, both based on males and females from Ecuador. Thus, Anaptomecus currently includes five species and is distributed in southern Central and northern South America, from Costa Rica to central Ecuador (Puerto Napo, Napo) (World Spider Catalog 2018).

The diversity of the lichen family Cladoniaceae in the Neotropics is apparently underestimated. A revision of the family for the Flora of the Guianas resulted in the description of 10 species new to science from Northern South America: Cladonia cayennensis; Cladonia flavocrispata; Cladonia isidiifera; Cladonia maasii; Cladonia mollis; Cladonia persphacelata; Cladonia recta; Cladonia rupununii; Cladonia subsphacelata; Cladonia termitarum.

Odontostilbe pulchra, previously considered species inquirenda in Cheirodontinae and doubtfully assigned from the río Orinoco basin, is redescribed with the rediscovery of two syntypes. Originally described to the Island of Trinidad, O. pulchra is widespread in Venezuela, the río Orinoco basin, in smaller coastal drainages of northern South America, in the Lake Valencia system, and río Essequibo basin. A punctual occurrence in the upper rio Negro, near southernmost headwaters of the río Orinoco, extends its distribution to the Amazon basin. Additionally, two new species of Odontostilbe from the río Orinoco basin are described.

Background and aims – As “islands in the sky” of northern South America, the isolated ecosystems of the Pantepui province include a distinct flora with high levels of endemism and which are ancestral areas for many angiosperm lineages. About one fifth of Pantepui angiosperm species are distributed in Poales, a highly diverse angiosperm order.Methods – Recent field trips were carried out on two Brazilian tepuis, by foot and helicopter. Herbarium collections were consulted and compared with the proposed new species. Key results – Four new species of Poales, three Navia Schult. & Schult.f. (Bromeliaceae) and one Paepalanthus Mart. (Eriocaulaceae) were found. Descriptions, illustrations, and distribution maps of the new species, as well as an identification key to Brazilian Navia species, are provided.

A new species, Eleocharis endounifascis, is described and illustrated. This species inhabits standing water in disturbed, open habitats, occurring among a mosaic of wet forest, and probably also flourishes in sunny, seasonally inundated wetlands from Belize to southeastern Venezuela and Guyana to Brazil. It was previously confused with Eleocharis interstincta in herbarium collections and floristic works.

The diverse bee genus Psaenythia Gerstaecker (Panurginae, Protandrenini), hitherto known from central and southern South America, is recorded from northern South America for the first time. Two new species are described: Psaenythia diceratops, sp. n., from northeastern Colombia, and P. guaricoensis, sp. n., from central Venezuela. The males of P. diceratops are noteworthy for possessing prominent apicolateral clypeal horns, elongate scythe-like mandibles, and displaying macrocephaly with strong dimorphism. Telebasis rojinegra sp. nov. was recorded from ponds at La Selva Biological Station and three other sites in the Caribbean lowlands of Costa Rica. The new species appears closely related to T. boomsmae Garrison, 1994 recorded from Mexico, Belize and Costa Rica, T. collopistes Calvert, 1902 ranging from Mexico to Honduras, and T. garrisoni Bick & Bick, 1995 from South America, but differs in having straighter and more elongate paraprocts and a half black pattern on the rear of the head. The female mesostigmal plates are also distinct from the above species. Telebasis rojinegra was active on the water primarily during afternoon hours.
