The improving investment climate objective requires a comprehensive approach to the regulatory framework enhancement. Policy Framework for Investment (PFI) is a significant OECD’s investment tool which makes possible to identify the key obstacles to the inflow foreign direct investment and to determine the main measures to overcome them. Using PFI by Russian authorities would allow a systematic monitoring of the national investment policy and also take steps to improve the effectiveness of sustainable development promotion regulations.

Our goal in this paper is the study of the impact of FDI on poverty and sustainable development in the case of Tunisia and during the study period from 1985 to 2015. In addition, we use the test unit root of cointegration test, the model error correction of FMOLS and Granger causality. In the case of Tunisia, we find that all variables are integrated of order 1. Thus, we can use the cointegration test. Indeed, the result of the null hypothesis test of no cointegration was rejected at the 5% threshold, which explains the presence of a cointegration relationship between FDI, sustainable development and poverty. Finally, we present and interpreted the results of the estimated FMOLS model and Granger causality test to study the contribution of FDI to the poverty reduction and sustainable development in Tunisia. We find that the LIDE variable measuring foreign direct investment has a significant negative impact on the GINI index. We notice the LCO2 variable that measures the CO2 emissions has a negative and significant impact on poverty as measured by the poverty gap at $ 1.91. We prove that direct foreign investments have a significant negative impact on CO2 emissions. This study aims to examine the link between foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows and economic growth, also considering several institutional quality variables, as well as sustainable development goals (SDGs) set in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. By estimating panel data regression models for a sample of 11 Central and Eastern European countries, from 2003 to 2016, the empirical outcomes provide support for a non-linear relationship between FDI and gross domestic product per capita. Regarding institutional quality, it is found that control of corruption, government effectiveness, regulatory quality, rule of law, and voice and accountability positively influence growth, while political stability and absence of violence/terrorism is not statistically significant. Moreover, SDGs such as poverty, income distribution, education, innovation, transport infrastructure, and information technology are noteworthy drivers of growth. The outcomes of panel fully modified and dynamic ordinary least squares partly confirm the findings. The panel vector error-correction model Granger causalities provide support for a short-run one-way causal association running from FDI to growth and a long-run two-way causal connection among FDI and growth. Furthermore, in the long run, unidirectional causal relationships running from each institutional quality indicator to economic growth and FDI are set out.

Publicized as a global call for action in 2015, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) has forwarded an agenda of resolutions to achieve the goals of sustainable development by 2030 (SDGs). Due to the specific challenges of funding gaps and the lack of advanced technology, the majority of Sub-Saharan African (SSA) countries are still behind the standard of world development. Since foreign direct investment (FDI) has the potential to bring much-needed capital and efficient technology, FDI has often been considered as a vigorous source of development, even for sustainable development for under-developing economies experienced today. Conspicuously, Chinese outward FDI (OFDI) into SSA has seen a strong upward trend in the 21st Century, after China proclaimed its “go global” strategy. Ethiopia is one of the favored destinations of the trend of Chinese OFDI, which also substantially continues through the SSA region. The hosting economy of Ethiopia expected that Chinese inward FDI comes with capital, efficient technology, and knowledge to contribute innovations through directly improving productivity and competitiveness via technological diffusion to domestic industries and eventually for sustainable development. Against this backdrop, this study utilizes firm-level panel datasets from Ethiopia to address the following couple of research questions. The first question is: are there any productivity differences between the establishment of Chinese-affiliated and domestic firms in the manufacturing industry in Ethiopia? The second is, does the presence of Chinese-affiliated firms provide productivity spillovers for domestic firms in the same industry level for socio-economic development? The investigation was carried out using 2554 manufacturing firm census data, from which 15.04% were Chinese firms operating in Ethiopia. We used the ordinary least squares (OLS) and generalized-method-of-moments (GMM) two-step approaches for estimations. Our findings revealed that, generally, Chinese firms were more productive than local firms and their presence can bring positive potential productivity spillover effects for domestic firms. Specifically, we found that local firms have gained significant positive spillovers when they had a high absorptive capacity, whereas low-absorptive capacity firms suffered negative spillovers. We also found that non-exporting domestic firms experience significant positive spillovers from the presence of Chinese firms.
