A New Species

Fourteen new species and six new genera of the molluscan class Monoplacophora are described from the Upper Cambrian Potosi and Eminence formations and the Lower Ordovician Gasconade Formation of the Ozark Uplift of Missouri and some new biostratigraphic horizons are introduced. A new superfamily, the Hypseloconellacea nom. trans. Knight, 1956, and a new family, the Shelbyoceridae, are named. The genus Proplina is represented by five new species: P. inflatus, P. suttoni from the Cambrian Potosi Formation, P. arcua from the Cambrian Eminence Formation and P. meramecensis and P. sibeliusi from the Lower Ordovician Gasconade Formation. A new genus and species in the subfamily Proplininae, Ozarkplina meramecensis, is described from the Upper Cambrian Eminence Formation. Four new monoplacophoran genera in the superfamily Hypseloconellacea and their species are described, including: Cambrioconus expansus, Orthoconus striatus, Cornuella parva from the Eminence Formation, and Gasconadeoconus ponderosa, G. waynesvillensis, G. expansus from the Gasconade Formation. A new genus in the new family Shelbyoceridae, Archeoconus missourensis, is described from the Eminence Formation and a new species of Shelbyoceras, S. bigpineyensis, is described from the Gasconade Formation.

The infraorder Thalassinidea Latreille, 1831 [sensu stricto] includes three families: Thalassinidae Latreille, 1831; Upogebiidae Borradaile, 1903; and Laomediidae De Haan, 1849 (cf. Sakai & Sawada, 2006). However, recent examination of material from Kuwait in the Pershian Gulf, showed the occurence of a new species,Kuwaitupogebia nithyanandangen. et sp. nov., and this has made it possible to establish a new family, Kuwaitupogebiidae fam. nov., based on that new genus. A New Species

We describe a new family and genus of stoloniferous octocorals (Alcyonacea) and a new genus of Clavulariidae from material collected in South Africa in 2008. Arulidae, fam. nov., is characterised by polyps whose tentacles are fused proximally to form an expanded oral membrane, and sclerites of a type (‘table-radiates’) that has not been recorded previously in Octocorallia. One species, Arula petunia, gen. nov., sp. nov., is described, and the possible existence of congeners elsewhere in the Indo-Pacific is discussed. Inconstantia, gen. nov., is erected for three new species of Clavulariidae that have no or only weak anthocodial armature. I. pannucea, sp. nov., and I. procera, sp. nov., both have tall, cylindrical calyces, while I. exigua, sp. nov., has low, retractile calyces. Despite these morphological differences that would normally place them in different subfamilies, all three species are nearly identical genetically. We also describe Cornularia pabloi, sp. nov., a new species of Cornulariidae from South Africa, and discuss an unidentified species of Carijoa with an unusual colony growth form. A molecular phylogenetic analysis of 130 octocoral taxa, including 15 genera of stoloniferans, supports the distinctions of these new taxa from existing families and genera, and highlights the polyphyletic distribution of the taxa attributed to family Clavulariidae.

The superfamily Callianassoidea Dana, 1852 currently includes ten families (Sakai, 2011). However, recent examination of material from Tosa-Saga, Kochi Prefecture, Japan, presented the occurrence of a new species,Tosacallianassa hatasagaensisgen. et sp. nov. The deviant morphology of the new taxon shows elements of the families Anacalliacidae Manning & Felder, 1991, Callianassidae Dana, 1852, and Callianopsidae Manning & Felder, 1991 (cf. sensu nov. in Sakai, 2011). This necessitated the author to also establish a new family, Tosacallianassidae, based on the new genus. The new family is additionally included in the Callianassoidea Dana, 1852 as an eleventh member of that superfamily.

Currently, the superfamily Axioidea Huxley, 1879 includes nine families (Sakai, 2011). However, recent examination of material from the Gulf of Nicoya, Costa Rica, Pacific side, presented the occurrence of a new species, Neoaxius nicoyaensis gen. et sp. nov. The deviant morphology of the genital organs of this new species can nowhere be observed in any of the known genera of the families included in the Axioidea. This necessitated the author to establish a new family, Neoaxiidae fam. nov., based on the new genus Neoaxius gen. nov. The new family is safely included in the Axioidea as a tenth member of that superfamily.

Two new species of anchialine cave shrimp from Cozumel Island are described. A new species from the family Agostocarididae,Agostocaris zabaletain. sp., occurs in three cenotes on the island (Chempita, Chankanaab System and Tres Potrillos). This new species is closely related toAgostocarisbozanicithat is known from one isolated cenote in another zone of the island.Agostocaris zabaletain. sp. is similar toA. bozanicibecause it lacks a rostrum with teeth, and the palp of the first maxilliped is not segmented. In additionA. zabaletaialso differs fromA. bozaniciby bearing four pairs of spines on the telson and only one spine on the outer ramus of the uropods. BothAgostocaris williamsiandAgostocaris acklinsensisdiffer fromA. zabaletaibecause both species have occasionally a serrate rostrum, and these species are reported exclusively from the Bahamas. A new family, Anchialocarididae, new genus and speciesAnchialocaris paulinin. sp. are described. This new species is known exclusively from the cenote Chempita located in the central area of the island. The new family Anchialocarididae is closely related to the families Agostocarididae and Atyidae because they have a similar branchial formulae. The main difference is that the new family has a simple articulation between carpus and palm of the first pereiopod, and this appendage is more slender than the second. Although the new family has several setae on the rudimentary propodus on the second pereiopod it lacks the abundance of setae found in other members of the Atyidae family genusTyphlatya. The relationship between this new family and the Agostocarididae is discussed.

A new genus and species, Unguitarsonemus paradoxus n. gen., n. sp. and a new species, Pseudotarsonemoides peruviensis n. sp. A total of 14 species in seven tingid genera have been described from the mid-Cretaceous Burmese (Kachin) amber from northern Myanmar, with very distinct paleofauna. Here, a new species of a new genus, Burmavianaida anomalocapitata gen. et sp. nov., is described from Kachin amber. This new species can be readily distinguished from the other described tingid taxa by the apparently smaller body and the structures of the pronotum and hemelytron. Burmavianaida gen. nov. shares the diagnostic characters with two clades composed of three extant subfamilies (Cantacaderinae + Tinginae) and Vianaidinae and may represent an extinct clade distinct from them. To the best of our knowledge, B. anomalocapitata sp. nov. is the smallest species of Tingidae among over 2600 described species. Our new finding supports the hypothesis of the miniaturization phenomenon of insects in Kachin amber, as suggested by previous studies.

AbstractThe order Intejocerida is an enigmatic, short-lived cephalopod taxon known previously only from Early–Middle Ordovician beds of Siberia and the United States. Here we report a new genus, Cabaneroceras, and a new species, C. aznari, from Middle Ordovician strata of central Spain. This finding widens the paleogeographic range of the order toward high-paleolatitudinal areas of peri-Gondwana.
