The type species, P. clathrata (Simon), is considered a senior synonym of P. gertschi Schenkel and P. zebra (Chamberlin & Ivie); male and female exemplar specimens are described. A new species, Promyrmekiaphila winnemem, from Shasta and Tehama Counties in northern California, is described.

Deep-sea sampling off the central California coast has provided numerous material of a new amphipod species of the genus Valettiopsis Holmes, 1908. Valettiopsis concava sp. nov. is described from abyssal collections taken from baited traps and sponge stalk communities. Morphological characteristics which distinguish the new species from its congeners are found in the dorsal profile of the body, integument surface, and shape of coxa 2 and basis of pereopod 7. This contribution presents the second recorded species of the genus Valettiopsis described from the north Pacific, the first being the type species V. dentata Holmes, 1908. The new species is fully illustrated and compared with related species. The generic identity of Valettiopsis ruffoi Serejo & Wakabara, 2003 is discussed. A key to Valettiopsis species is provided.

A new species of the eelpout genus Pachycara Zugmayer is described from the lower bathyal zone of central California,USA on the basis of three adult males. It is distinguished from its congeners mainly by its low vertebral counts, origin ofthe mediolateral branch of the lateral line system, lack of pelvic fins, presence of scales on the nape and cheeks and re-stricted gill slit. In addition, two species of the eelpout genus Lycenchelys Gill (L. micropora and L. monstrosa), taken in the same collection as the new Pachycara, are discussed, with the latter added to the California marine fish fauna.
