Do oligopolistic industries evolve a pricing pattern which is inimical to consumer welfare? In this article, pricing policies in a major American industry are examined in the light of orthodox analysis. The results shed some light on the relevance of oligopolistic pricing theory in judging the competitiveness of certain industrial markets.
