This chapter tells the story of how Kierkegaard's works came to be translated and published in English. It also provides a brief bibliography of his English-translated works, as well as an annotated bibliography of works in English which are about Kierkegaard himself. This chapter details the author's (Walter Lowrie's) own initial encounters with Kierkegaard, which were translated—albeit not very faithfully—in German, and his subsequent attempts to secure interest and funding for an English translation of Kierkegaard's works. At the time Kierkegaard had already taken the place of Nietzsche as the literary vogue in higher circles, and had already drawn interest even among the author's peers, some of whom had published, or were attempting to publish, Kierkegaard's works with varying degrees of success.
