The advocates of the so-called "hard science" view relativism as an extreme undesirable standpoint. The ill fame of relativism is most frequently explained by the opinion that relativism is striving, in general, for the position where "everything is possible", thus hindering the progress of science and leading to its destruction in the long run. Those opposing relativism, consider relativistic position, in the best of cases, depressing and solipsistic, and, in the worst of cases, extremely destructive. Regarding the fact that such an attitude most often results from the ignorance (sometimes from profound ignorance) of the basic principles of relativistic doctrine, a more elaborate consideration was given herein to the relativistic doctrine: its definitions, opposing other doctrines and diverse orientations. In short, relativism is founded neither upon a view that everything is possible, nor is its application impossible in science nor are its implications so destructive for science as stated by the opponents of this attitude. In addition, the article considers the issue of harmonizing relativism with multiperspectivism of science. Therefore, the presentation to follow should be taken as an attempt to define relativism more closely and to point out its potentials and the road science can take in the time to come.

<p>Bataan-Cavite Interlink Bridge (BCIB) in the Philippines is a proposed 32km sea-crossing which will connect Bataan to Cavite, to unlock opportunity for economic growth and expansion outside Metro Manila. A Feasibility Study was carried out to plan the road link, which would involve two major navigation bridges, long marine viaducts, and interchange connections. This paper outlines the Feasibility Study and the preliminary design of the crossing, and highlights how the bridge options were assessed in order to come up with an optimum solution.</p>

AbstractHow can artists stay autonomous, and keep their creativity alive in the contemporary society? In this paper is stated that the individual bourgeois model of the artist is not sufficient any more to make autonomous art and to stay creative on the long run. If artists want to stay mobile and autonomous they need to build collective organizational structures, which are called 'traveling caravan'. In the parallel historical shifts between 1970 and 2000 from liberalism to neo-liberalism, from Fordism to post-Fordism and from modern to contemporary art, artists need to build up their own artistic biotope if they need to make their work without governmental interference (subsidizes) and free market solutions. The cooperative can be seen as an interesting model to develop such a 'mobile autonomy'.

Abstract: The presence of Jenderal Ahmad Yani Semarang International Airport, caused many tourists to come to Semarang, and the impact of one of them was on Anjasmoro Raya corridor whose activities were growing.  This phenomenon can be found with the presence of shops as formal sector activities and the development of pedagang kaki lima activities as a sector informal.  This informal activity uses the shoulder space of the road which should fuction to support the transportation activities in the corridor, but is used as a place of sale by pedagang kaki lima, so there is a strength of property that supports the activities of pedagang kaki lima.  This study aims to find the relationship between the setting of the Anjasmoro Raya corridor and pedagang kaki lima activity through the strength of property in the Anjasmoro Raya corridor.  The research method used is descriptive qualitative, with data collection techniques in the form of place centered mapping.  The result showed that there was a relationship between the setting of the Anjasmoro Raya corridor and the activities of street vendors.Keyword: Settings, Pedagang Kaki Lima Activities, Anjasmoro Raya CorridorAbstrak: Kehadiran Bandar Udara International Jenderal Ahmad Yani Semarang membuat banyaknya wisatawan yang datang ke kota semarang, dan dampak salah satunya pada koridor Anjasmoro Raya yang semakin berkembang aktivitasnya, dimana gejala ini dapat dijumpai dengan hadirnya pertokoan sebagai aktivitas sector formal dan berkembangnya aktivitas pedagang kaki lima sebagai sektor informal.  Aktivitas informal ini menggunakan ruang bahu jalan yang seharusnya berfungsi untuk mendukung aktivitas transportasi yang ada di koridor, namun dimanfaatkan sebagai tempat jualan oleh pedagang kaki lima, sehingga terdapat kekuatan property yang mendukung aktifitas pedagang kaki lima.  Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mencari hubungan seting koridor Anjasmoro Raya dnegan pola aktivitas pedagang kaki lima, melalui kekuatan properti yang ada di koridor Anjasmoro Raya.  Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif, dengan teknik analisa data berupa place centered mapping.  Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa terdapat hubungan seting koridor Anjasmoro Raya dengan aktivitas pedagang kaki lima.Kata Kunci: Seting, Aktivitas Pedagang Kaki Lima, Koridor Anjasmoro Raya

Human error has played a critical role in the events precipitating the road accidents. Such accidents can be predicted and prevented by risk assessment, in particular assessing the human contribution to risk. As part of the Human Reliability Assessment (HRA) process, it is usually necessary not only to define what human errors can occur, but how often they will occur. Lack of understanding of the failure distribution characteristics of drivers on roads at any given time is a factor impeding the development of human reliability assessment and prediction of road accidents in order to take best proactive measures. The authors developed the complete investigation methodology for crash data collection. Furthermore, they have experimentally tested the proposed predictive behavioral characteristics of drivers in light of their instantaneous error rate over the course of driving period to assist processing and analysis of data collection as part of risk assessment. The findings of this research can assist road safety authorities to collect the necessary data, to better understand the behavioral characteristics of drivers on roads, to make more accurate risk assessments and finally to come up with right preventive measures.

This chapter examines the development of open source computer software with specific reference to the political economy of copyleft and the legalities associated with the General Public License (GPL). It will be seen that within the context of computer software development the notion of copyleft provides an important contrast to more traditional uses of copyright. This contrast symbolizes political, economic, and social struggles which are contextualized within this chapter. As the GPL is an important legal embodiment of copyleft, its legalities are preliminarily explored so as to determine its future potential. While there is some scope to further refine the legal strength of the GPL, it will be seen that it remains a strong and subversive legal instrument which will continue to underlie open source initiatives in the years to come.

A well-oiled logistics sector physically moves the economy towards higher growth. A developed logistics infrastructure facilitates backward and forward linkages in global trade and manages the business cost of accessing markets. Logistics sector facilitates sectorwise growth in a way that it eases goods transmissions mechanisms. This study has assessed four indices of logistics which are road, rail, air and sea transport by forming indices using 13 indicators. Auto regressive distributed lag (ARDL)bound approach-based long-run results show that, for the case of Pakistan, development in the road transport has highest potential in growth productivity of agriculture and services sector, while sea transport performed best in industrial sector.

AbstractDerrida insists that we understand the 'to-come' not as a real future 'down the road', but rather as a universal structure of immanence. But such a structure is no substitute for the hard work of taking responsibility for what are often entirely predictable and preventable disasters (9/11, the Iraq war, Katrina, global warming). Otherwise "the future can only be anticipated in the form of an absolute danger". Derrida devotes much attention to proposing, imagining, hoping for a 'future' in which im-possible possibilities are being realized. It is important to steer clear of the utopian black hole, the thought (or shape of desire) that the future would need to bring a future perfection or completion. The future may well exhibit a universal structure of immanence. But what is equally disturbing is not our inability to expect the unexpected, but the failure of our institutions to prevent the all-too-predictable.

Case overview After development for 10 years, JD was now China’s second largest business-to-customer (B2C) e-retailer and the largest in self-operated sector. It was September 2015 when Liu Qiangdong was deciding whether to persist with JD’s self-operated model and the heavy investment in the self-built logistics system. JD’s business model had been functioning well. However, as JD grew bigger and bigger, it became too expensive to expand its logistics system. JD had not made a profit since it raised funds from investors. Liu had to come up with a good proposal before the next monthly meeting to convince them that JD would finally overtake its biggest rival, Alibaba which ran on a different business model. In addition, JD was exploiting the rural and the global markets, as well as a new business in internet finance. Facing challenges and dilemmas, should JD persist with its model? How could Liu align short-term profitability with long-run development? How could JD overcome attacks from Alibaba and other competitors? Expected learning outcomes This case is appropriate for courses in e-business and strategy, particularly those with a strong focus on doing e-business in emerging markets (e.g. China).
