Novel yellow to blackish green Ni-doped aluminium titanate (Al2TiO5) ceramic pigments were synthesized by solid-state reaction method at 1400 ?C. Effects of nickel doping content on phase composition, microstructure, optical properties and stability were studied. The results show that the higher content of Al2TiO5 phase and the reduction of the lattice distortion of aluminium titanate could be attributed to the entry of nickel ions into aluminium titanate lattice resulting in the formation of solid solution. Ni-doped aluminium titanate ceramic pigments show exceptional glaze colouring and are expected to be promising high-temperature pigments.

Polycrystalline La 0.93 Sb 0.07 MnO 3 ceramics were synthesized using solid-state reaction method. The samples were sintered at different temperatures ranging from 1100°C to 1200°C. It is observed that microstructural, transport and magnetic properties of La 0.93 Sb 0.07 MnO 3 compounds strongly depend on sintering temperatures (TS). With TS increasing, the degree of lattice distortion has been weakened, the grain size has become larger and grain boundaries have decreased. Furthermore, the resistivity was reduced, and metal–insulator transition temperature was enhanced; the saturation magnetization per unit mass has decreased with TS increasing. These effects of different TS on physical properties can be explained by the structure distortion and grain boundary contributions for La 0.93 Sb 0.07 MnO 3 compounds.

The synthesis of aluminum titanate solid solution (Al2(1-x)MgxTi1+xO5, x=0, 0.1, 0.2) powders was realized by solid state reaction method using fine commercial α-Al2O3, TiO2 and MgO powders as raw materials. The effect of the introduced amount of MgO on the phase formation of aluminum titanate solid solution was investigated by XRD following the phase evolution. It was revealed that the introduction of MgO strongly affects the formation of Al2(1-x)MgxTi(1+x)O5 solid solution. The easily formed MgTi2O5 acts as the nucleus prompting the formation and lowering the synthesis temperature. The microstructure and properties of the solid solution ceramics were also studied by SEM and measuring the fracture strength and the thermal expansion coefficient.

Bi4Ti3-xNbxO12+x/2 (BNT) ceramics were prepared by a solid-state reaction method. Effects of Nb doping on dielectric and ferroelectric properties of BNT were investigated. XRD patterns show that Nb5+ substitutions do not change the phase structure. With the increase of Nb doping, dielectric constant and Curie temperature decrease gradually. At the same time, dielectric loss peaks become flatter and dielectric losses become smaller due to the decrease of oxygen vacancies derived from the introduction of Nb5+ at Ti4+ site in BNT. Remanent polarization Pr and coercive field EC of BNT ceramics are both larger than those of BIT without Nb doping. With the increase of Nb doping from 0 to 0.045, Pr increases to the largest value of 17 μC/cm2 and EC decreases to the lowest value of 87 kV/cm, but Pr will decrease when Nb doping content is over 0.045.

The effects of Pb doping on the thermoelectric (TE) properties of Yb 1-x Pb x BaCo4O7+δ (x = 0, 0.02, 0.04, 0.06, 0.08 and 0.1) ceramic samples prepared by the solid-state reaction method were investigated from 383 K to 973 K. The results showed that with increase of the Pb content, the electrical resistivity decreased remarkably, meanwhile the Seebeck coefficient decreased slightly, resulting in an enhancement of the power factor (PF). The effect of Pb doping on the thermal conductivity was insignificant. According to the PF and the dimensionless figure of merit (ZT) value, the optimum Pb doping content was x = 0.08. The ZT value reached 0.12 at 973 K, being 69.5% higher than that of the sample without Pb doping.

In this paper, the bismuth-layered structure piezoelectric ceramics (Ca,Sr)Bi4Ti4O15 doped with CeO2 are prepared by the solid state reaction method. The crystal structure of the ceramics is determined by X-ray diffraction and the single orthorhombic structure phase is found. However, the doping of CeO2 increase the lattice parameters a, b, c. As a result, the ions of Ce enter into the lattice of the bismuth-layered structure and occupy A sites in the perovskite layer of bismuthlayered structure lattice. The temperature dependence of the conductivity shows that the resistivity increases by doping of CeO2 and reaches its maximum when the doping content is 0.4mol%. The mechanism of the CeO2 doping is also analyzed. By the investigation of XPS, the Ce ions have two types of valences: Ce3+ and Ce4+. The existence of Ce ions strengthened the weak Bi-O bonding and decreased the oxygen vacancies in the lattice, so the ceramics have lower conductivity.

It is expected that BiFeO3-based materials will have both ferroelectricity and ferromagnetism. (1-y)BiFe(1-x)MnxO3-yBaTiO3 system was prepared using solid state reaction method. The goal of this study is to uncover the impacts of Mn doping and BaTiO3 content on the crystal structure, magnetism and ferroelectric properties. By forming a solid solution with BaTiO3, stable perovskite BiFeO3 was achieved. The rhombohedrally distorted (1-y)BiFe(1-x)MnxO3-yBaTiO3 showed weak ferromagnetism due to the composition of BaTiO3 and the doping of Mn ion. 0.8BiFe0.9Mn0.1O3-0.2BaTiO3 and 0.7BiFe0.9Mn0.1O3-0.3BaTiO3 ceramics exhibited typical P-E hysteresis loops.

Magnetic and dielectric properties of 3Y-TZP/20 wt.% Ba 1-x Sr x Fe 12 O 19 (x = 0, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75) composites prepared by solid state reaction method are investigated. The magnetic properties are improved in the composites with the strontium doped barium ferrite. When x = 0.25, the saturation magnetization of the ferrite reaches the maximum. This is due to the migration of Fe 3+ induced by the Sr 2+ doping. The dielectric properties are also improved in the composite with the strontium doped barium ferrite. When x = 0.5, the dielectric constant and dielectric loss possess the maximum. This is caused by the lattice distortion resulting from the Sr 2+ doping. The dielectric properties are analyzed by the universal relaxation law.

he solid solution between the normal ferroelectric Pb(Zr1/2Ti1/2)O3 (PZT) and relaxor ferroelectric Pb(Co1/3Nb2/3)O3 (PCoN) was synthesized by the solid state reaction method. Sintered PZT-PCoN ceramics were annealed at temperatures ranging from 850 to 1,100°C for 4 h. X-ray diffraction patterns revealed changes of crystalline structure after annealing, which could be correlated to the accompanied changes in dielectric properties. Furthermore, significant improvements in the dielectric responses were observed in this system. After annealing, a huge increase of up to 200% occurred in the dielectric constants, especially near the temperature of maximum dielectric constant.
