BaTiO3 powders were prepared by co-precipitation via oxalate route. The size, morphology and particle size distribution of the oxalate powders have been optimized by the control of different synthesis parameters during the precipitation reaction (nature of salts, concentration of different solutions, aging time). The single phase BaTiO3 oxide particles were obtained after a thermal decomposition of the as-synthesized powders at 850?C for 4 hours under air atmosphere. Oxide powders with a suitable specific surface area were selected in order to obtain thick films by the tape casting technique. The microstructure and dielectric properties of the thick films varied obviously depending on the deposition-calcination-sintering cycle used. A double deposition-calcination cycle followed by sintering, as well as a two step deposition-calcination-sintering procedure was used in order to improve the compactness and therefore, the dielectric behaviour. A higher dielectric constant value (~ 750) and lower dielectric losses (~ 2 %) were achieved at room temperature and at 1 kHz frequency for the dense, double-deposited film obtained after two deposition-calcination-sintering cycles. For this film, a superior value of the dielectric constant (~ 1100), almost frequency independent in the frequency range of 100 Hz - 10 kHz was gained also at the ferroelectric-paraelectric phase transition temperature of 130?C. .

The preparation of ceria-based composite membranes by means of tape-casting technique and their oxygen permeation and methane reforming properties have been investigated. Oxide powders comprising of Ce1−xRExO2−δ (RE = Pr and Sm) and spinel-type ferrites of MFe2O4 (M = Mn and Co) were prepared by the citrate-based liquid-mix technique. As a result of the optimization of ceramics slurry composition, a crack-free dense membrane with dimensions of 5 cm × 5 cm and 140 μm in thickness was successfully prepared by means of doctor-blade technique. For Ce0.9Sm0.1O2−δ - 15 vol% MnFe2O4 membrane with a thickness of 133 μm, an oxygen flux density of 9.5 μmol/cm2 s was attained at 1000 °C under Ar-10% CH4 (100 sccm). The methane conversion and CO selectivity were 22 and 93%, respectively. Laminated membranes comprising of Ce0.9Sm0.1O2−δ - 15 vol% MnFe2O4 and Ce0.9Sm0.1O2−δ - 30 vol% CoFe2O4 were also prepared. The laminated membrane with one Ce0.9Sm0.1O2−δ - 30 vol% CoFe2O4 layer showed a higher oxygen flux density by a factor of 40% than that without Ce0.9Sm0.1O2−δ - 30 vol% CoFe2O4 layer.

This paper reports the fabrication and characterization of (Bi0.48Sb1.52)Te3 thick films using a tape casting process on glass substrates. A slurry of thermoelectric (Bi0.48Sb1.52)Te3 was developed and cured thick films were annealed in a vacuum chamber at 500–600 °C. The microstructure of these films was analyzed, and the Seebeck coefficient and electric conductivity were tested. It was found that the subsequent annealing process must be carefully designed to achieve good thermoelectric properties of these samples. Conductive films were obtained after annealing and led to acceptable thermoelectric performance. While the properties of these initial materials are not at the level of bulk materials, this work demonstrates that the low-cost tape casting technology is promising for fabricating thermoelectric modules for energy conversion.

The effect of plasticizer on dielectric properties of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA)/titanium dioxide (TiO2) composites was investigated. Propylene carbonate (PC) was used as plasticizer in the samples which were prepared with the conventional solvent casting technique. Scanning Electron Microscopy with Energy Dispersive X-Ray Analysis (SEM-EDX) and Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) analyses and LCR Meter measurements (performed between 300 K and 400 K), were conducted to examine the properties of the composites. With the addition of plasticizer, the thermal properties have changed and the dielectric constant of the composite has increased significantly. The glass transition temperature of pure PMMA measured 121.7°C and this value did not change significantly with the addition of TiO2, however, 112°C was measured in the sample with the addition 4 ml of PC. While the dielectric constant of pure PMMA was 3.64, the ε′ value increased to 5.66 with the addition of TiO2 and reached 12.6 with the addition of 4 ml PC. These changes have been attributed to increase in amorphous ratio that facilitates polymer dipolar and segmental mobility.

Modified silicon-containing arylacetylene resins (DMSEPE-OMPS) were prepared from poly(dimethylsilyleneethynylenephenyleneethynylene) (DMSEPE) and Octa(maleimidophenyl)- silsesquioxane (OMPS). The curing reaction of DMSEPE-OMPS resin was studied by FT-IR and DSC techniques. Thermal stability and dielectric properties of cured DMSEPE-OMPS resins were determined. FT-IR and DSC analyses indicate that thermal polymerization of DMSEPE-OMPS resin occurs in the curing process. Thermal stabilities of cured DMSEPE-OMPS resins under N2 and air atmosphere decrease gradually with the increment of OMPS components. The incorporation of OMPS can obviously reduce dielectric constant of DMSEPE-OMPS resins.

The influence of dispersing Al-metal complex on the optical properties of PVA was investigated using UV–visible spectroscopy. Polymer composite films with various Al3+-complex amounts in the PVA matrix were arranged by solution casting technique by means of distilled water as a widespread solvent. The formation of Al3+-metal complex was verified through Ultraviolet–visible (UV-Vis) and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) examinations. The addition of Al-complex into the polymer matrix led to the recovery of the optical parameters such as dielectric constant (εr and εi) and refractive index (n). The variations of real and imaginary parts of complex dielectric constant as a function of photon wavelength were studied to calculate localized charge density values (N/m*), high-frequency dielectric constant, relaxation time, optical mobility, optical resistivity, and plasma angular frequency (ωp) of electrons. In proportion with Al3+-complex content, the N/m* values were amplified from 3.68 × 1055 kg−1 m−3 to 109 × 1055 kg−1 m−3. The study of optical parameters may find applications within optical instrument manufacturing. The optical band gap was determined from Tauc’s equation, and the type of electronic transition was specified. A remarkable drop in the optical band gap was observed. The dispersion of static refractive index (no) of the prepared composites was analyzed using the theoretical Wemple–DiDomenico single oscillator model. The average oscillator energy (Eo) and oscillator dispersion energy (Ed) parameters were estimated.

Abstract A water-based tape casting slurry is reported to prepare the ceria and scandia co-doped zirconia (ScSZ) electrolyte films. The slurry is characterized and optimized through Zeta potential and rheological property measurements. Smooth and flat ScSZ electrolyte films are obtained by improving the sintering process. The microstructure, electrical performance, and mechanical property of ScSZ with adding different contents of Al2O3 are also investigated. The results show that a proper amount of Al2O3 has a beneficial effect on the densification of ScSZ. Significant decrease at the grain boundary resistance of ScSZ is observed by Al2O3 addition. The bending strength of the sample with 0.5 wt.% Al2O3 (ScSZ-0.5A) is about 400 MPa, which is 20% higher than pure ScSZ. The ScSZ-0.5A electrolyte film fabricated by water-based tape casting method shows appropriate electrical conductivity and high mechanical strength, which is promising for the practical application in solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs).

<p class="Abstract"><span lang="EN-US">The influences of calcination temperature and doping with cobalt in A–site on structural and dielectric properties of CaCu3-xCoxTi4O12 (CCCxTO, x = 0.00, 0.02 and 0.10) ceramics sintered at 1050 0C for 8h were investigated. The ceramic samples are prepared by the conventional solid-state method using high purity oxide powders, and they are calcined at 850 °C, 950 °C and 1050 0C for 4h. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis of pure and doped CCTO samples calcined at 950 °C and 1050 0C showed no traces of any other secondary phases, while impurity phases alongside CCTO phase in the x=0.00 sample calcined at 850 0C was observed. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) investigation showed an increase in grain size with increasing of Co content and calcining temperature. Dielectric measurements indicated that the dielectric constant of the pure CCTO calcined at 1050 0C/4h has a low value in the frequency range of 1kHz up to 1MHz, whereas the substitution of Co up to x = 0.10 into CCTO caused a huge increase in the dielectric constant value of the calcined samples which is equal to 153419 and 18957 at 950 °C and 1050 0C respectively. The complex impedance analysis of all samples shows a decrease in resistance with an increasing temperature, which suggests a semiconductor nature of the samples.</span></p>

A pure ferrite and epoxy samples as well as the epoxy/ferrite composites with different 20 wt.%, 30 wt.%, 40 wt.%, and 50 wt.% weight ferrite contents have been prepared by the chemical co-precipitation method. AC-conductivity and dielectric properties such as the dielectric constant and dielectric loss of the prepared samples have been studied. The obtained results showed that the samples had a semiconductor behavior. The dielectric constant of the composites has been calculated theoretically using several models. For the composite sample that contains 20 wt.% of ferrites, these models give satisfactory compliance, while for the composite samples with a higher percentage of nanofillers, more than 30 wt.% theoretical results do not coincide with experimental data. The investigated polymer has very low conductivity, so this type of polymer can be useful for high-frequency applications, which can reduce the losses caused by eddy current. Thus, the prepared samples are promising materials for practical use as elements of microwave devices.
