In the reaction of 1,3-dimethyl-pyrazole-5-carboxylic acid (HL) with M(OAc)2?4H2O, (M = Cu, Co) two novel complexes have been prepared, square-planar [CuL2(H2O)2] and octahedral [CoL2(MeOH)4]. The crystal structures have been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. In both complexes the deprotonated acid displays monodentate coordination to the metal ions. According to the results of CSD survey this is the first structural report on the metal complexes with N1-substituted pyrazole-5-carboxylic ligand.

A novel metalorganic coordination polymer, namely [Co3(bpd)5.5(NCS)6(NH3)]n2H2O (1) (bpd=1,4-bis (4-pyridyl)-2,3-diaza-1,3-butadiene), has been synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, infrared spectroscopy, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Compound 1 presents 2D[3,4,-connected 3-nodal net with the point symbol (4268210)(4462)(8210). In addition, four identical 2D single nets is interlocked with each other in parallel, thus directly leading to the formation of a polycatenated layer (2D2D).

Single crystals of rubidium tetrafluoridobromate(III), RbBrF4, were grown by melting and recrystallizing RbBrF4 from its melt. This is the first determination of the crystal structure of RbBrF4 using single-crystal X-ray diffraction data. We confirmed that the structure contains square-planar [BrF4]− anions and rubidium cations that are coordinated by F atoms in a square-antiprismatic manner. The compound crystallizes in the KBrF4 structure type. Atomic coordinates and bond lengths and angles were determined with higher precision than in a previous report based on powder X-ray diffraction data [Ivlev et al. (2015). Z. Anorg. Allg. Chem. 641, 2593–2598].

The dimer [(η5-C5Me5)Ru(C3B2Me5)RhCl]2 (2) reacts with 1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane (dppe) to give the triple-decker complex [(η5-C5Me5)Ru(C3B2Me5)Rh- (dppe)Cl] (3). Its constitution follows from NMR and MS data, and a single-crystal X-ray diffraction study.

The crystal structure of the 1 : 1 adduct of N-methylaniline with 5-nitrofuran-2-carboxylic acid has been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Crystals are monoclinic, space group P21/c with Z 4 in a cell of dimensions a 8·467(5), b 6·106(2), c 23·95(1) Å, β 94·48(3)°. The molecules associate in a tetrameric, proton-transfer formation which has potential as a new supramolecular synthon.

An open-framework germanate SU-79 was synthesized using nickel complex and amine as the templates. The crystal structure was solved by the combination of rotation electron diffraction (RED) and synchrotron single crystal X-ray diffraction.

The synthesis of triphenyltelluroniumsulfide (Ph3TeS)4 is described together with a NMR-spectroscopic characterization. The structure of the title compound was determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. Crystals of triphenyltelluroniumsulfide are triclinic (space group P1) with the cell parameters a = 1178.0(3) pm. b = 1295.8(6) pm. c = 1298.7(4) pm, α = 77.67(3)°, β = 82.18(2)°, γ = 66.00(2)° (V = 1766(1) × 106 pm3) and Z = 2. The compound appears to form a step-like structure of two [Ph3TeS]2 units and crystallizes with two molecules of CH2Cl2 per unit cell.

Caesium tetrafluoridobromate(III), CsBrF4, was crystallized in form of small blocks by melting and recrystallization. The crystal structure of CsBrF4 was redetermined from single-crystal X-ray diffraction data. In comparison with a previous study based on powder X-ray diffraction data [Ivlev et al. (2013). Z. Anorg. Allg. Chem. 639, 2846–2850], bond lengths and angles were determined with higher precision, and all atoms were refined with anisotropic displacement parameters. It was confirmed that the structure of CsBrF4 contains two square-planar [BrF4]− anions each with point group symmetry mmm, and a caesium cation (site symmetry mm2) that is coordinated by twelve fluorine atoms, forming an anticuboctahedron. CsBrF4 is isotypic with CsAuF4.

Colorless and transparent single crystals of Ba2H3I were obtained by reacting Ba with dried and sublimed NH4I in a 4 : 1 molar ratio in silica-jacketed Nb ampoules at 1100 K for 13 h. The crystal structure of the title compound was determined and refined by means of single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Ba2H3I crystallizes in a stuffed anti-CdI2 structure isotypic to Sr2H3I in the space group P3̄m1 (no. 164) with the lattice parameters a = 451.86(12) and c = 811.84(23) pm. The structural results for Ba2H3I are consistent with bond lengths and coordination geometries of related binary and ternary hydrides

Abstract Single crystals of acetyltetralone grown from a solution containing a small amount of Cu(II) ions are studied by ESR. The corresponding g, 63Cu magnetic and quadrupolar hyperfine tensors are obtained and are consistent with the trapping of a square planar copper(II) complex. X-ray diffraction shows that pure acetyltetralone crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group Pbca (a - 8.893 Å, b = 20.301 Å, c = 10.715 Å). Comparison of the ESR eigenvectors with the bond directions obtained from this crystal structure study shows that the Cu(II) complex experiences some constraint from the crystal matrix. The present complex is a model for one of the complexation sites of tetracyclines.
