The ketoacid, 2-(4-diethylamino-2-hydroxybenzoyl)benzoic acid, prepared from N,N-diethyl-m-aminophenol and phthalic anhydride, was reacted with various substituted 3-[6-methoxybenzothiazol-2-yl]-4(3H)-quinazolinones in the presence of a dehydration condensing agent to afford novel spiro[isobenzofuran-1(3H),9?-xanthene]-3-ones. The benzothiazolyl quinazolinones were synthesized by reacting 2-amino-6-methoxybenzothiazole with various substituted benzoxazinones. All compounds were characterized by melting point determination, elemental analysis, infra- red spectroscopy NMR-spectroscopy and UV-visible sprectroscopy. All the fluoran compounds are colourless or nearly colourless and produce colour in the presence of acidic media.

ABSTRACT A method is described for the assay of urinary pregnanediol and allopregnanediol which employs acid hydrolysis of pregnanediol glucuronide, ascending thin-layer chromatography and spectrophotometric quantitation of the eluted pregnanediol and allopregnanediol. The reliability of the method was established by analysis of infra-red and UV absorption spectra, melting point determination, recovery experiments, duplicate assays and comparison with the Klopper method. The method has advantages in that it is rapid and requires small urine samples.

Two ligands and four complexes are successfully synthesized by reacting 1,8-diaminonapthelene with aldehyde/ketone derivatives in ratio amine:aldehyde/ketone (1:2) for ligands formation and 1:1 ratio (ligand:metals) for complexes formation. The compounds were characterized through CHNS elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy, 1H NMR spectroscopy, melting point determination, and magnetic susceptibility determination. The neurotoxicity screening of compounds was screened using neuroblastoma SH-SY5Y cell lines and it was indicate the cells were non-toxic either for ligands and complexes after 24 hours exposure.

The synthesis of N-4t-butyl benzoil-p-aminophenol has been done by reacting p-aminophenol and N-4t-butyl benzoil chloride compounds, then the products were isolated and analyzed by TLC, melting point determination, UV/Vis Spectrofotometry, infra red spectrofotometry and mass spectrometry. The synthesis yield of N-4t-butylbenzoil-p-aminophenol was 33,52%, with the compound melting point between 192-194 oCThe determination of analgesic (ED50 of % analgesic activity ) and anti inflammatory activity (ED50 of edema inhibition) gave the ED50 of % analgesic activity was 144 mg/kg and ED50 of % edema inhibition was 43,24 mg/kg.

2?-chloro-6?-diethylaminofluoran and 2?-chloro-3?-methyl-6?-diethylaminofluoran were reacted with various diphenols in dimethyl formamide in the presence of potassium carbonate to give the related bisfluoran compounds. All the synthesized derivatives were identified by conventional methods (IR, 1H-NMR), elemental analysis and UV-visible spectroscopy in organic solvent and 95 % acetic acid. All the fluoran compounds change their color in acidic media.

Plastic has high potency to become material that much threats human living in this earth, because made from chemical which cannot degraded by microbes in environment. The successful production and marketing of biodegradable plastics will help alleviate the problem of environmental pollution. One of biodegradable plastic that used in our live is polyethylene. This research reveals that local microbes capable to degrading of polyethylene. Biodegradation test was carried out by using bacteria in soil which was obtained from Gunung Tugel disposal center, Banyumas regency. Kind of polyethylene is LDPE (Low Density Polyethylene) which was obtained from Setiakawan Plastic Factory, Kalibogor, Purwokerto formed to thin film. Characterization of the polyethylene used weight loss percentage method, melting point determination and FTIR. Soil bacteria isolated from Gunung Tugel disposal center, Banyumas regency, obtained 5 single colonies, which coded GT. Bacteria isolate which have highest activity in degrading polyethylene was GT 3, with increasing the time of incubation. Weight loss percentage up to 2.33% in 1 month. Melting point of polyethylene after biodegradation was decreased that initially 210-220 °C into 210-213 °C. FTIR spectrophotometer result of polyethylene after biodegradation showed intensity for methylene and methyl cluster was decreased.

Antibacterial activity and fire retardation are equally desired for protective clothing. For achieving this, AgNP and MgO are independently researched as nanofillers in Polyurethane based electrospun nanofibers and their synergistic effect is scarcely addressed. This article reports synthesis and characterization of MgO of 70.01 nm and AgNP of 51 to 76 nm by solution combustion and hydrothermal routes respectively and their incorporation in electrospinning of Polyurethane. Flow rate 1 ml/hr, applied voltage 13 kV, tip to collector distance 15 cm were adopted for the electrospinning. Nanofibers of 65 nm were obtained for PU/MgO (3 wt. %) and 106 nm for PU/MgO (3 wt. %)/Ag (1 wt. %). Addition of MgO increased the melting point, after flame time and afterglow time. Incorporation of AgNP improved antibacterial activity. PU/MgO/Ag (2 wt. %) exhibited zone of inhibition of 2.1 cm and 3 cm against E. Coli and S. Aureus, respectively.
