Mechanical properties of viscoelastic filled polymers strongly depend on temperature and strain rate and vary for several orders of magnitude. During service life, a viscoelastic body, especially carboxy-terminated polybutadiene (CTPB) composite solid rocket propellant grain, is subjected to many stress-inducing loads. Its structural integrity analysis (hereafter: ?structural analysis?), unlike elastic bodies, is quite complex and sometimes impossible under the action of just a single load. An even greater problem occurs when multiple different types of loads act simultaneously. This study is based on a complete uniaxial mechanical characterization of a viscoelastic CTPB composite rocket propellant, made in MTI- -Belgrade, whose results were used for the analysis of the propellant grain reliability. Through an example, this paper shows a behavior of the viscoelastic propellant grain when it is subjected to extremely different environmental loads at the same time. Similar explicit examples are difficult to found in the literature, except in the form of recommended principles for analysis. It is shown that the tensile strength under the action of fast load due to the pressure may be almost 20 times greater than the tensile strength under the slow temperature load. A probabilistic approach is presented in evaluation the reliability and service life. An example is shown for a rocket propellant grain as a viscoelastic body. The presented principles of the analysis can be applied to any arbitrary viscoelastic body in other areas.

To study the low temperature effects of tensile mechanical properties on Hydroxyl-terminated polybutadiene (HTPB) propellant, a quasi-static mechanical experiment was conducted. The results show that tensile mechanical parameters are closely related to strain rate and low temperature. With the decrease of temperature and increase of strain rate, the modulus and tensile strength of HTPB propellant increase obviously. Based on the time-temperature equivalence principle (TTEP), the master curves of tensile strength and initial modulus for HTPB propellant were obtained, which can facilitate the structural integrity analysis of the propellant. The damage of propellant is matrix tearing and dewetting between the filled particles and matrix.

ABSTRACTPhysical properties and structural parameters have been measured for ropes of nylon 6 as a function of the number of use operations. The fractional content of the α crystal form, sound velocity, birefringence, tensile strength and length all increase systematically and significantly with increasing the number of use operations. The fractional content of the γ crystal form and fiber diameter decrease with use. These trends indicate that the measurement of such properties and structural parameters, especially the length, provide a possible basis for establishing a reliable, rapid, and convenient nondestructive characterization method to predict the remaining service life of nylon 6 ropes.

The assessment of the service life of concrete structures using the durability design approach is widely accepted nowadays. It is really encouraged that a simulation model can resemble the real performance of concrete during the service life. This paper investigates the concrete carbonation through probabilistic analysis. Data regarding Indonesian construction practice were taken from Indonesian National Standard (SNI). Meanwhile, data related to Indonesian weather condition for instance humidity and temperature are taken from local Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency from 2004 until 2016. Hopefully the results can be a starting point for durability of concrete research in Indonesia.
