This study presents preliminary results of the basic properties of the northern red oak wood as well as the relationship between the properties of the core samples obtained on the live tree and the tested properties. The core samples 5 mm in diameter were extracted from the tree and used for determining the fractometer properties: compressive strength parallel to grain, radial bending strength and braking angle. Using descriptive statistics and multiple regression, the relationship between fractometric parameters and basic physical and mechanical properties of wood determined by destructive methods (wood density, compressive strength in parallel with fibers and bending properties (bending strength and modulus of elasticity). The obtained values of the examined properties of northern red oak are within the limits of the literature data. Statistical analysis has shown that radial bending strength cannot be used as a reliable fractometric parameter in assessing wood quality. On the other hand, the obtained results suggest that the relationship between the other two parameters (compressive strength parallel to grain and fracture angle) and the properties of the northern red oak wood can be successfully described using the multiple regression models (coefficient of determination ranged from 0.945 to 0.990).

In this study we investigate how consumers in The Netherlands can be persuaded to adopt sustainable practices when purchasing, using and disposing of clothes. This study investigates the attitude-behavior gap for the sustainable choices for purchase, use and disposing of clothes. For each consumption phase we ran a two-step multiple regression. The findings showed that the importance of the factors vary in the three consumption phases. For purchasing and disposal decisions, the core motivator social motivation predicts sustainable practices best, while it has no role in the usage phase. The factor ability appeared to have a significant role in the disposal phase, but not in the other phases. Finally, the trigger appears to lower the consumers’ ability in the purchasing phase, while it enhances the core motivator social evaluation in the disposal phase.

Background: People with progressive cancer experience that their bodies change due to disease and/or treatment. The body is integral to the unity of the human being, a unity that must be perceived as whole if dignity shall be experienced. Relatives are in touch with the suffering bodies of their dear ones, physically, socially, mentally, and existentially, and thus the relatives’ experiences of the bodies of their dear ones might yield insight into the concept of dignity. Aim: The aim of this study is to explore relatives’ experiences of the patients’ bodily changes from a perspective of dignity. Research design and method: A total of 12 relatives from a hospice in Norway were interviewed. Gadamer’s ontological hermeneutics inspired the interpretation. Ethical considerations: The principles of voluntariness, confidentiality, withdrawal, and anonymity were respected during the whole research process. The Norwegian Social Science Data Services approved the study. Results and conclusion: The conversations about the body were conversations about ambivalent or paradoxical matters that shed light on the concept of dignity. The results show that the relatives got in touch with elements that otherwise would have remained tacit and unspoken, and which gave glimpses of a deeper truth, which might reveal the core of dignity. Furthermore, the relatives’ confirmation of the ambivalence might be understood as a strong ethical obligation to treat the other with dignity. The confirmation may also reveal the relatives’ unselfish love of the other, which can be understood as the core of ethics and ethos. Finally, the results reveal the relatives’ limited insight into their dear ones’ bodily changes, and we discuss the challenges of truly seeing the other. Body knowledge and the relationship between body and dignity as phenomena cannot be ignored and needs more attention and articulation in clinical nursing practice and in nursing research.

<p>Three days lasting nuptial rites as examples of <em>rites of passage</em> take on a new significance with the contributions of professional musicians in Bergama’s surrounding country-side like elsewhere in Turkey. These musicians living in Bergama are often ‘Roma’. Leading the profession of musicianship up until today, these local musicians provide basically two different kinds of musical service: to encode certain stages with certain tunes over the course of the ritual and to guide the transition. As a female-centered activity, the core of the marriage ritual is a process of <em>liminality</em> in which the bride enters a new phase in her life by the help of the other women around (aunts, musicians, etc.). Unlike the relationship between the male musicians and the groom, female Rom musicians locally named ‘dümbekçiler’ stand by the bride in almost all stages of this transition and guide her to cross the inner tresholds of the ritual properly. This article aims to contribute to the understanding of the ‘liminal’ roles of the male and female Rom musicians in their company consequently to the bride, the groom and all the other members of communitas during the ritual process.</p><p> </p><p><strong>Özet</strong></p><p>Geçiş ritüellerinin (<em>rites of passage</em>) üç güne yayılan bir örneği olan evlilik ritüelleri, bugün Türkiye’nin pek çok yerinde olduğu gibi Bergama kırsalında da profesyonel müzisyenlerin katkılarıyla anlam kazanır.

Inequality has been increasing for decades in both rich and developing countries and the academic literature addressing it struggles to provide explanations, let alone solutions. This article is concerned with a relatively underexplored area, the relationship between macro-level inequality and organizational inequality. The core focus of the article is the recognition that the two phenomena are closely bound up one with the other. This is made possible by adopting Rousseau’s notion of inequality as hierarchy and willingness to accept subordination to authority and disparity of treatment. In doing so, we highlight similarities and dissimilarities between Rousseau and Marx. Inequality remains an issue of hierarchy at both the macro and organizational levels. As it was for Rousseau, so it is today but it is much more layered than in Rousseau’s day: inequality in society is the accepted degree of hierarchy among its members, inequality in the economy and at work is the extent to which, accepted or not, there is an imbalance of power, financial resources, remuneration of work and access to opportunities and services. The increase in inequality is due to a radical change in the socio-economic model of advanced economies. This change involves a shift towards financialization, a pressure on labour through flexibility, the decline of trade unions’ power and the retrenchment of public social spending.

Wellbore instabilities frequently occur in mudstone formation with weak plane bedding because of strong anisotropies. The mechanics parameters of weak plane bedding are of vital significance to the wellbore stability analysis for mudstone formations. The conventional method for determining the mechanics parameters is to fit lots of triaxial test data due to the blindness of coring. In this paper, an evaluation method of the mechanics parameters of weak plane bedding is proposed to improve the accuracy of weak plane bedding mechanical properties. The mechanics parameters of weak plane bedding are obtained by combing the single-weak plane failure criterion with the compressive strength of rock obtained by the triaxial test of cores with different coring angles. It is seen that the new evaluation method is simple and convenient. On the other hand, a validation method of the mechanics parameters of weak plane bedding is proposed to ensure their accuracy. The compressive strength obtained from the core with the special coring angle is compared with the theoretical compressive strength for verifying the accuracy of weak plane bedding mechanical properties. It is observed that the proposed evaluation and validation methods can be used to measure the value of weak plane bedding mechanical properties precisely. The proposed methods are general and can be used for measuring the mechanical properties of fracture weak-plane and joint weak-plane.

This paper presents the initial study of microwave tomography in agriculture to investigate the effect of microwave signal on the thickness of a medium. In this project, a pair of antennas is used non-invasively where one of it acts as a transmitter and the other one as a receiver. The investigation was based on the transmission and reception of antennas in a transversal direction while several samples of mediums with different thickness are put between those antennas. The result obtained throughout this initial study had shown that the attenuation of microwave will vary with the diameter of the medium. The information and analysis of the preliminary results can be used as a reference for further investigation on the selected medium.

High strength concrete (HSC) farther than high compressive strength, possesses uniform high density and very low impermeability, endowing itself with excellent resistance to aggressive environments and disintegrating agencies. But HSC has low flextural strength. Studies have shown that the lack of enough flextural strength of high strength concrete can be compensated by adding steel fibers to the concrete mixture. On the other hand one of the most important environmental problems is the majority of waste spiral steel chips, collected in industrial poles. In this study waste spiral steel chips have been used as steel fibers to reinforced high strength concrete. Also the properties of mixture have been studied. The main properties in this study are including slump of fresh concrete, density, compressive and bending strength of 28-days old specimens. The chips are classified into three different groups according to their shapes and three different categories of test are performed according to percentage of fibers in the mixture. The test results show that any increase in percentage of fibers, will increase the density of specimens and will decreases the slump of mixtures but it will result different behavior of their compressive and bending strength.

Variation in cambial isoperoxidase banding patterns was greater in northern red oak (Quercus rubra L.) than in any of the other oak species studied, with all combinations of the 3 major anodal bands (A,B,C) being present (A,B,C,AB,AC,BC,ABC). Barkring grafts between seedlings of similar enzyme constitution were successful and xylem vascular continuity was restored across the graft union. When the isoperoxidase pattern in the bark-ring donor differed from that of the stock, no common cambium was formed and normal vascular connections did not occur. The graft “failures” (not incompatibility) that have been common in the propagation of ‘Crownright’ and ‘Sovereign’ pin oaks are probably caused by the hypersensitivity of these scion cultivars to a virus transmitted by soil-borne nematodes. The disruption at the graft union was more severe when stock and scion had different isoperoxidase constitutions. Propagation problems engendered by isozyme incompatibility and virus hypersensitivity can be solved by developing “seed orchards” for the production of desirable seedling rootstocks.

The purpose of this research was to investigate the direct influence of promotion and service quality on purchase decision to order Nasi Penggoda via Ojek Online (Ojol) during the Covid-19 quarantine period in Pontianak.  The research method was carried out causally by measuring the strength of the relationship between two or more variables. Through the distribution of interviews and questionnaires (Google Form),a total of 85 respondents were randomly selected for data collection. Multiple regression was used when conductiong data analysis from the said responses.  The results of this research carried out, the hypothesis was clearly accepted. It proved that both promotion (X1) and service quality (X2) influenced simultaneously and partially to purchase decision on ordering Nasi Penggoda through Ojek Online (Ojol).  On the other hand, partial research variables showed that service quality dominates more than promotion on the making of purchase decision.
