This paper presents the bibliographic review of smart systems implemented so far and their application. Also this paper is dedicated to new smart mobile system developed for monitoring microclimatic parameters. This system is primarily intended for monitoring real-time microclimatic parameters, such as air quality where the presence of carbon monoxide (CO) is monitored, as well as other microclimatic parameters. The mobile system which will be described in this manuscript can be installed in public transport (to obtain information on microclimatic parameters on a known route). Also, to obtain information on microclimatic parameters from a random route, it is possible to install the system in a taxi vehicle. This system provides the ability to generate a map using the data provided by the system based on GPS coordinates. The system is based on a group of embedded sensors, GPS module, PIC microcontroller as a core and server system, and wireless internet using Global System for Mobile Telecommunications (GSM) module with General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) as a communication protocol.

With a special focus on the now widespread Internet of Things (IoT) technology, it offers a convenient solution for smart agriculture. This paper will introduce a smart greenhouse monitoring and control data logger system as part of a smart farm. The system is based on: a group of built-in sensors, a microcontroller with a peripheral interface (PIC) as a core and a server system and a wireless Internet using the Global System of Mobile Telecommunications (GSM) module with General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) as a communication protocol. It is possible to implement a smart agricultural service, in which the realized smart data logger system could be implemented, which enables automatic control of the greenhouse at the farm.

AbstractHepatic fibrosis is a foreshadowing of future adverse events like liver cirrhosis, liver failure, and cancer. Hepatic stellate cell activation is the main event of liver fibrosis, which results in excessive extracellular matrix deposition and hepatic parenchyma's disintegration. Several biochemical and molecular assays have been introduced for in vitro study of the hepatic fibrosis progression. However, they do not forecast real-time events happening to the in vitro models. Trans-epithelial electrical resistance (TEER) is used in cell culture science to measure cell monolayer barrier integrity. Herein, we explored TEER measurement's utility for monitoring fibrosis development in a dynamic cell culture microphysiological system. Immortal HepG2 cells and fibroblasts were co-cultured, and transforming growth factor β1 (TGF-β1) was used as a fibrosis stimulus to create a liver fibrosis-on-chip model. A glass chip-based embedded TEER and reactive oxygen species (ROS) sensors were employed to gauge the effect of TGF-β1 within the microphysiological system, which promotes a positive feedback response in fibrosis development. Furthermore, albumin, Urea, CYP450 measurements, and immunofluorescent microscopy were performed to correlate the following data with embedded sensors responses. We found that chip embedded electrochemical sensors could be used as a potential substitute for conventional end-point assays for studying fibrosis in microphysiological systems.

In this paper, the real-time EtherCAT technology is introduced in detail, which including operating principle, communication protocol and the superiority performance of EtherCAT i.e. synchronicity, simultaneousness and high speed. To show how to design a slave system that considering the characteristics of application, the method of developing systems based no EtherCAT technology are proposed. Finally, a data acquisition system based on EtherCAT technology is designed. Application of EtherCAT technology can improve the real-time characteristics of data communication in wind power system.

The bus video monitoring system is composed by WCDMA transmission system, video server system, system monitoring center and outreach system. By WCDMA wireless transmission module achieving real time video data return, while using VPDN network technology. Using of the DVS video server and by WCDMA transmission system, the monitoring videos information will be transmitted to the monitoring center rapidly and in real time. The monitoring center can remotely monitor, manage, and dispatch the bus. The results demonstrating this system has good real time transmission ability.

Currently, the traffic congestion is a significant problem encountered in urban development, which should be resolved depending primarily on the management and deployment under the circumstance that road construction isn't able to keep the pace of automobile growth. WSNs (Wireless sensor networks), made up of numerous sensor nodes, form a multi-hop and self-organizing cellular system by wireless communication, which can realize real-time monitoring and collecting environmental information by cooperation. In this paper, a design of real-time and dynamic city vehicle navigation system is presented based on WSNs, GPS(Global Positioning System), and GPRS(General Packet Radio Service) techniques..

Mobile Fog Computing (MFC), as a crucial supplement to cloud computing, has its own special traits in many aspects. As smart mobile devices grow and vary in shapes and formats over the years, the need for real-time interactions and an easy-to-use network is imminent. In this paper, we propose a smart collaborative policy for MFC scenarios by considering the target of rural vitalization. The challenges and drawbacks of extending cloud to fog are reviewed at the beginning. Then, the analysis of policy design is presented from the perspectives of feature comparisons, urgent requirements, and possible solutions. The details of policy establishment are introduced with necessary examples. Finally, performance evaluations are provided based on simulation platforms. Validation results related to round trip time and transmission time illustrate the significant improvements of our proposal in certain ways compared to the original candidate, which enables larger deployment in impoverished areas.

Teachers' professional development programs need to be reconsidered to meet their expectations in the new digital era. Thus, there is need to consider the importance of offering mobile, informal, and social learning in the workplace through smart utilization of the emerging mobile technologies. This chapter introduces the features of an innovative mobile and social learning platform, which aims at improving teachers' performance in the UAE and the Arab world by promoting knowledge and skill through better integration of ICT in the teaching and learning process and better adoption of learner-centric learning. A smart mobile learning platform called “Wamda” is providing micro-courses that are relevant to the curriculum, experiential, and immersive. It is designed to utilize the power of mobile learning technologies, artificial intelligence techniques, and social networking approach. Through this chapter, the critical pedagogical and technical aspects of creating a smart mobile learning environment were elaborated and checked against a list of attributes of smart systems.
