The dynamic behaviour of bent reinforced concrete beams in elastic range is significantly influenced by cracks caused by former loads. Considering this fact a more accurate calculation of the eigenfrequencies of the beams is available. Experiments have shown that the features of vibration differ from the results obtained by the well-known linear model, if cracked zones exist. The cause of this phenomenon is that the bending rigidity of the cross-sections in the cracked range depends on the sign of the actual bending moment. Therefore the vibration shows non-linear characteristics in the elastic range as well. The dynamic behavior of bent prestressed concrete beams is similar. The dynamic characteristics of prestressed beams besides cracks is influenced also by the intensity and eccentricity of the axial force. For a detailed investigation of the problem, experiments and non-linear analysis were performed. On the basis of these the virtual eigenfrequencies of the non-linear vibrations were determined.

In this paper, the effectiveness of vibration-based tests for the detection of damages for prestressed concrete beams is investigated. Despite large research efforts, discrepant and sometimes contradicting conclusions have been drawn regarding the efficacy and reliability of vibration-based monitoring for prestressed structures. Herein, a contribution to this discussion is provided by tackling the problem from a different perspective. Specifically, the question that this paper intends to answer is: “Do vibration-based tests support decision-makers in integrity management operations for prestressed elements?” The discussion is carried out by comparing the performance of prestressed and ordinary reinforced concrete beams with similar capacities. Both analytical and numerical case studies are considered. Results show that, for prestressed beams, in contrast to reinforced concrete beams, modal parameters can provide information regarding damage only when the structure is close to its ultimate conditions. This makes this information hardly useful for integrity management purposes and the effectiveness of vibration-based tests questionable for this type of structural element.

This paper deals with analysis of set of reinforced concrete beams. Loading experiments of these beams were carried out and the results were documented and published earlier. Experiments involve several variants of spans, cross-sections and reinforcement so that various modes of failure of reinforced concrete structures are achieved. This paper compares the resistance of particular beams defined according to valid standard Eurocode 2 with non-linear analysis using advanced spatial 3D numerical models Cementitious material model based on fracture mechanics implemented in ATENA software. This paper outlines the wider evaluation of failure mode of beam and comparison of different calculations of resistance of the cross-section.

The paper presents results of experimental research whose main topic was determination of stiffness reduction in bent reinforced concrete beams in two cases: when only tensioned or only compressed zone was exposed to high temperature. Twenty four reinforced concrete beams with rectangular cross-section were prepared for the experiment. Eight groups of beams were prepared in total: 2 with reinforcement ratio - 0.44 and 1.13% x 2 levels of load - 50 or 70% of destructive force ensuring the constant value of bending moment in the centre part of heated beams x 2 static schemes. Three beams were used in each group. Significant cross-section stiffness reduction was observed in beams where the tensile zone was heated. This was due to considerable elongation of the bars where the steel load elongation summed up with the free thermal strain. In beams where the compressed zone was heated the stiffness reduction was observed only after the time where the tensile zone heated cross-sections were already destroyed.

In this paper, we present an analytical model to analyze reinforced and prestressed concrete beams loaded in combined bending, axial load and shear, in the frame of non linear elasticity. In this model, the equilibrium of the beam is expressed by solving a system of equations, governing beams equilibrium, based on the stiffness matrix of the beam, which connects the load vector to the node displacements vector of the beam. It is built from the stiffness matrix of the section which takes into account a variation of the shearing modulus (depending on the shear variation) instead of assuming a constant shearing modulus as in linear elasticity. For the internal tendons, the stiffness matrix is completed by the terms due to the prestress effect in flexural equilibrium and by the balancing of one part of the shear by the transverse component of the force in the inclined cables.

In order to improve the bearing capacity of SRC which is related with deformation and stiffiness, SRC beams should be strengthened by CFRP. Based on the experiment of six pre-splitting steel reinforced concrete beams strengthened with (Prestressed) CFRP sheets, the deformation of beams are discussed. Load-deformation curves are obtained by the experiment. Considering the influence of intial bending moment on SRC beams, the calculated deformation formulas of SRC beams strengthened by (Prestressed) CFRP are deduced. The results showed that the load-deformation curves of normal and strengthened beams respectively showed three and two linear characteristics. The theoretical results which calculated by the formulas of deformation are well agreement with the experimental results.

An experimental investigation was carried out to study shear carrying capacity and ultimate flexural moment of reinforced cement concrete beam. Two series of simply supported beams were prepared by varying diameter and spacing of shear and flexural reinforcement. Beams of cross section 230 mm X 300 mm and length of 2000 mm. During testing, maximum load, first crack load, deflection of beams were recorded. Test results indicated that decreasing shear spacing and decreasing its diameter resulted in decrease in deflection of beam and increase in bending moment and shear force of beam.

This paper describes the analysis of high temperature influence on beams with heated tensile zone. High temperature experiments were preformed under the static load of 50 or 70% of the destructive force ensuring constant value of bending moment in the central part of the heated beam. Beams with 2 reinforcement ratios – 0.44 and 1.13% were examined. In total four series of beams, three in each series (12 elements) were used. This paper analyses the reduction of relative beam cross section stiffness depending on reinforcement temperature. Experimentally obtained stiffness values calculated in two ways (element maximal deflection and deflection measured in three points of analysed element) were compared to calculation results made according to Eurocode. The performed analysis shows that reduction of the stiffness of element based on Eurocode calculations is slightly bigger than the experimentally obtained one.
