Here, a singular elliptic problem involving p(x)-Laplacian operator in a bounded domain in RN is considered. Due to this, the existence of critical points for the energy functional which is unbounded below and satisfies the Palais-Smale condition are proved.

Abstract In this work, we are concerned with a generalized Steklov problem with (p(x), q(x))-Laplacian operator. Under some appropriate conditions on the data involved in the elliptic problem, we prove the existence of at least three solutions using Ricceri’s three critical points theorem.

Abstract We study integral operators $\mathcal{L}u\left( \chi \right)=\int{_{_{\mathbb{R}}\mathbb{N}}\psi \left( u\left( x \right)-u\left( y \right) \right)J\left( x-y \right)dy}$of the type of the fractional p-Laplacian operator, and the properties of the corresponding Orlicz and Sobolev-Orlicz spaces. In particular we show a Poincaré inequality and a Sobolev inequality, depending on the singularity at the origin of the kernel J considered, which may be very weak. Both inequalities lead to compact inclusions. We then use those properties to study the associated elliptic problem $\mathcal{L}u=f$in a bounded domain $\Omega ,$and boundary condition u ≡ 0 on ${{\Omega }^{c}};$both cases f = f(x) and f = f(u) are considred, including the generalized eigenvalue problem $f\left( u \right)=\lambda \psi \left( u \right).$

In this paper, we prove the existence of infinitely many weak bounded solutions of the nonlinear elliptic problem \[\begin{cases}-\operatorname{div}(a(x,u,\nabla u))+A_t(x,u,\nabla u) = g(x,u)+h(x) &\text{in }\Omega,\\ u=0 &\text{on }\partial\Omega,\end{cases}\] where \(\Omega \subset \mathbb{R}^N\) is an open bounded domain, \(N\geq 3\), and \(A(x,t,\xi)\), \(g(x,t)\), \(h(x)\) are given functions, with \(A_t = \frac{\partial A}{\partial t}\), \(a = \nabla_{\xi} A\), such that \(A(x,\cdot,\cdot)\) is even and \(g(x,\cdot)\) is odd. To this aim, we use variational arguments and the Rabinowitz's perturbation method which is adapted to our setting and exploits a weak version of the Cerami-Palais-Smale condition. Furthermore, if \(A(x,t,\xi)\) grows fast enough with respect to \(t\), then the nonlinear term related to \(g(x,t)\) may have also a supercritical growth.

This study concerns the existence of positive solutions to classes of boundary value problems of the form−∆u = g(x,u), x ∈ Ω,u(x) = 0, x ∈ ∂Ω,where ∆ denote the Laplacian operator, Ω is a smooth bounded domain in RN (N ≥ 2) with ∂Ω of class C2, and connected, and g(x, 0) < 0 for some x ∈ Ω (semipositone problems). By using the method of sub-super solutions we prove the existence of positive solution to special types of g(x,u).

AbstractWe introduce a new energy functional of conformal invariance and consider its critical points, named the m-symphonic map. We study a Hölder continuity of m-symphonic maps from domains of $$\mathbb {R}^m$$ R m into the spheres in the higher dimension $$m \ge 4$$ m ≥ 4 .

This paper is devoted to the study of existence, nonexistence and multiplicity of positive solutions for the semilinear elliptic problem [Formula: see text] where Ω is a bounded domain of ℝN, λ ∈ ℝ and g(x, u) is a Carathéodory function. The obtained results apply to the following classes of nonlinearities: a(x)uq + b(x)up and c(x)(1 + u)p (0 ≤ q < 1 < p). The proofs rely on the sub-super solution method and the mountain pass theorem.

This paper is concerned with the following nonlocal elliptic system of (p,q)-Kirchhoff type−[M1(∫Ω|∇u|p)]p−1Δpu=λFu(x,u,v), in Ω,−[M2(∫Ω|∇v|q)]q−1Δqv=λFv(x,u,v), in Ω,u=v=0, on∂Ω.Under bounded condition onMand some novel and periodic condition onF, some new results of the existence of two solutions and three solutions of the above mentioned nonlocal elliptic system are obtained by means of Bonanno's multiple critical points theorems without the Palais-Smale condition and Ricceri's three critical points theorem, respectively.

AbstractIn this paper, we consider a special class of solvable Lie groups such that for any x, y in their Lie algebras, [x, y] is a linear combination of x and y. We investigate the harmonicity properties of invariant vector fields of this kind of Lorentzian Lie groups. It is shown that any invariant unit time-like vector field is spatially harmonic. Moreover, we determine all vector fields which are critical points of the energy functional restricted to the space of smooth vector fields.

<p style='text-indent:20px;'>It is established existence of solutions for subcritical and critical nonlinearities considering a fourth-order elliptic problem defined in the whole space <inline-formula><tex-math id="M1">\begin{document}$ \mathbb{R}^N $\end{document}</tex-math></inline-formula>. The work is devoted to study a class of potentials and nonlinearities which can be periodic or asymptotically periodic. Here we consider a general fourth-order elliptic problem where the principal part is given by <inline-formula><tex-math id="M2">\begin{document}$ \alpha \Delta^2 u + \beta \Delta u + V(x)u $\end{document}</tex-math></inline-formula> where <inline-formula><tex-math id="M3">\begin{document}$ \alpha &gt; 0, \beta \in \mathbb{R} $\end{document}</tex-math></inline-formula> and <inline-formula><tex-math id="M4">\begin{document}$ V: \mathbb{R}^N \rightarrow \mathbb{R} $\end{document}</tex-math></inline-formula> is a continuous potential. Hence our main contribution is to consider general fourth-order elliptic problems taking into account the cases where <inline-formula><tex-math id="M5">\begin{document}$ \beta $\end{document}</tex-math></inline-formula> is negative, zero or positive. In order to do that we employ some fine estimates proving the compactness for the associated energy functional.</p>
