This paper has an expository character, however we present as well some new results and new proofs. We prove a complex version of Dirichlet?s principle in the plane and give some applications of it as well as estimates of Dirichlet?s integral from below. Some of the results in the plane are generalized to higher dimensions. Roughly speaking, under the appropriate conditions we estimate the n-Dirichlet integral of a mapping u defined on a domain ? ? Rn , n ? 2, by the measure of u(?) and show that equality holds if and only if it is injective conformal. Also some sharp inequalities related to the L2 norms of the radial derivatives of vector harmonic mappings from the unit ball in Rn, n ? 2, are given. As an application, we estimate the 2-Dirichlet integrals of mappings in the Sobolev space Wi2.

Abstract We construct classical theories for scalar fields in arbitrary Carroll spacetimes that are invariant under Carrollian diffeomorphisms and Weyl transformations. When the local symmetries are gauge fixed these theories become Carrollian conformal field theories. We show that generically there are at least two types of such theories: one in which only time derivatives of the fields appear and the other in which both space and time derivatives appear. A classification of such scalar field theories in three (and higher) dimensions up to two derivative order is provided. We show that only a special case of our theories arises in the ultra-relativistic limit of a covariant parent theory.

Assume that $p\in [1,\infty ]$ and $u=P_{h}[\phi ]$, where $\phi \in L^{p}(\mathbb{S}^{n-1},\mathbb{R}^n)$ and $u(0) = 0$. Then we obtain the sharp inequality $\lvert u(x) \rvert \le G_p(\lvert x \rvert )\lVert \phi \rVert_{L^{p}}$ for some smooth function $G_p$ vanishing at $0$. Moreover, we obtain an explicit form of the sharp constant $C_p$ in the inequality $\lVert Du(0)\rVert \le C_p\lVert \phi \rVert \le C_p\lVert \phi \rVert_{L^{p}}$. These two results generalize and extend some known results from the harmonic mapping theory (D. Kalaj, Complex Anal. Oper. Theory 12 (2018), 545–554, Theorem 2.1) and the hyperbolic harmonic theory (B. Burgeth, Manuscripta Math. 77 (1992), 283–291, Theorem 1).

LetBXbe the unit ball in a complex Banach spaceX. AssumeBXis homogeneous. The generalization of the Schwarz-Pick estimates of partial derivatives of arbitrary order is established for holomorphic mappings from the unit ballBntoBXassociated with the Carathéodory metric, which extend the corresponding Chen and Liu, Dai et al. results.

Dedicated to Professor Kôzô Yabuta on the occasion of his 60th birthdayJ. Kinnunen proved that of P > 1, d ≤ 1 and f is a function in the Sobolev space W1,P(Rd), then the first order weak partial derivatives of the Hardy-Littlewood maximal function ℳf belong to LP(Rd). We shall show that, when d = 1, Kinnunen's result can be extended to the case where P = 1.

We completely characterize the pluriharmonic symbols for (semi)commuting dual Toeplitz operators on the orthogonal complement of the pluriharmonic Dirichlet space in Sobolev space of the unit ball. We show that, forfandgpluriharmonic functions,SfSg=SgSfon(Dh)⊥if and only iffandgsatisfy one of the following conditions:(1)bothfandgare holomorphic;(2)bothf¯andg¯are holomorphic;(3)there are constantsαandβ, both not being zero, such thatαf+βgis constant.

<p>Half a century after the appearance of the celebrated paper by Serrin about overdetermined boundary value problems in potential theory and related symmetry properties, we reconsider semilinear polyharmonic equations under Dirichlet boundary conditions in the unit ball of $ \mathbb{R}^{n} $. We discuss radial properties (symmetry and monotonicity) of positive solutions of such equations and we show that, in conformal dimensions, the associated Green function satisfies elegant reflection and symmetry properties related to a suitable Kelvin transform (inversion about a sphere). This yields an alternative formula for computing the partial derivatives of solutions of polyharmonic problems. Moreover, it gives some hints on how to modify a counterexample by Sweers where radial monotonicity fails: we numerically recover strict radial monotonicity for the biharmonic equation in the unit ball of $ \mathbb{R}^{4} $.</p>

Harmonic functions with certain boundedness properties on a given open Riemann surface R attain their maxima and minima on the harmonic boundary ΔB of R. The significance of such maximum principles lies in the fact that the classification theory of Riemann surfaces related to harmonic functions reduces to a study of topological properties of Δ(cf. [11; 8; 3; 12].For the corresponding problem in higher dimensions we shall first show that the complement of ΔR with respect to the Royden boundary ΓR of a Riemannian N-space R is harmonically negligible: given any non-empty compact subset E of ΓR – ΔR there exists an Evans superharmonic function v, i.e., a positive continuous function on R* = R ∪ ΓR, superharmonic on R, with v = 0 on ΔR, v ≡ ∞ on E, and with a finite Dirichlet integral over R.
