In this paper we address the issue of organisational learning in Serbia during the transition, based extensively on the research work of Bozidar Cerovic that was published in his conference papers, academic journals, books, and edited volumes from the 1990s onwards, as well as in our joint research. We delineate three generations of organisational learning in the post-1989 transformation, which correspond to the transition periods comprehensively analysed in Cerovic?s work. We discuss each of these generations of organisational learning as characterised by the specific learning context, shaded by macro-level determinants and distinctive learning antecedents, nature, practices, and outcomes, and provide a theoretical framework using institutional organisation theory to highlight the specific issue of organisational learning in Serbia during the transition of South-Eastern Europe.

Purpose Focusing on an international trainee- and internship programme, this paper aims to propose a new framework that links organisational strategies regarding ethnic diversity with career competencies of the programme participants. Design/methodology/approach The paper adopts a case study design. It examines the interplay of the perspectives of the organisation, which is an Austrian bank, and of the programme participants, who are university graduates from South-Eastern Europe. It draws on the typology of diversity strategies by Ortlieb and Sieben (2013) and the categorisation of individual career competencies by DeFillippi and Arthur (1994). Findings The bank benefits from the programme participants’ competencies with regard to South-Eastern Europe and increased legitimacy gained from the public. Programme participants acquire many knowing-how, knowing-why and knowing-whom competencies, especially if the bank pursues a so-called learning strategy towards ethnic diversity. On the other hand, individual knowing-how competency supports an organisation’s antidiscrimination strategy, whereas knowing-why and knowing-whom competencies benefit the organisational learning strategy. Research limitations/implications Although the paper builds on a single case study and the ability to generalise is limited, the findings imply that future human resource development concepts should jointly consider the perspectives of both organisations and individuals. Practical implications Owing to their high strategic relevance, organisations should look into the competencies of skilled migrants and evaluate the critical resources they offer. Both organisational learning and an organisation’s strategic development are key concerns. The proposed framework helps to effectively design trainee- and internship programmes and simultaneously anticipate organisational and individual consequences thereof at an early stage. Originality/value The proposed framework concerning the interplay between organisational and individual perspectives as well as the regional focus on South-Eastern Europe present novelties.

There are several International Olympiads for secondary school students (for example, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology and informatics). These Olympiads are not just a science competition, but a means to care for talent in the particular science. The goal of this paper is to identify the necessary topics important for good results at these international contests, and to compare the contest systems for the countries in South Eastern Europe, in the field of Informatics (Computer Science), as a region that is one of the prominent world regions in the context of high results in the international competitions. Here, we provide comparison through detailed analysis of several countries, and further we present a new approach that may be used to compare the achievements of the countries based on the results that students achieved at these competitions. Finally, we present an application of this approach on the results of some of the discussed countries compared to Macedonia. We strongly believe that the paper will provide a valuable content and approach for the entities involved in the organization of the contests, to measure their results compared to other countries, to use the information for improvement, and to use their achievements to raise awareness among the government institutions and companies in order to get support from them.

On October 12th and 13th, 2020, Bryansk State University held an international scientific online conference "Vegetation of Eastern Europe and Northern Asia". The Proceedings of abstracts includes 66 reports by 118 authors and co-authors from 5 countries, 34 localities and 51 organizations. During the meeting, 41 oral presentations were made. In conclusion, it was noted that it is necessary to promote an integration of geobotanists and florists from different regions in order to implement joint research projects. In particular, this concerns a project of making a vegetation classification in Russia.
