Ontology has been collecting a lot of attention recently. In fact, it has potential for resolving several key problems such as semantic tag design for semantic web, semantic integration, knowledge sharing/reuse, etc. However, it is also true that people have different understanding of ontology. This article is written to contribute to clarification of the understanding of ontology and ontological engineering and to promotion of its utility. Although the discussion is made in the context of Artificial Intelligence in Education domain, I believe the content is pretty general.

Current educational developments in theories and practices advocate a more personalized, student-centered approach to teach 21st-century skills. However, the existing pedagogical practices cannot provide optimal student engagement as they follow a ‘one size fits all' approach. How can we provide high-quality adaptive instructions at a personalized level? Intelligent tutoring systems with embedded artificial intelligence can assist both students and teachers in providing personalized support. This chapter highlights the role of artificial intelligence in the development of intelligent tutoring systems and how these are providing personalized instructions to students with and without disabilities. This chapter gives insight into the challenges and barriers posed by the integration of intelligent tutoring systems in K-12 classrooms.

Abstract With the increase in studies about artificial intelligence (AI) in the educational field, many scholars in the field believe that the role of teachers, school and leaders in education will change. In this regard, the purpose of this study is to examine what possible scenarios are there with the arrival of AI in education and what kind of implications it can reveal for future of schools. The research was designed as a phenomenological study, a qualitative research method, in which the opinions of participants from different sectors were examined. The results show that schools and teachers will have new products, benefits and also face drawbacks with the arrival of AI in education. The findings point out some suggestions for use of AI and prevention of possible problems. While participants generally seem to have positive perceptions towards AI, there are also certain drawbacks, especially highlighted by teachers and academicians, regarding the future of teaching. Lawyers and jurists tend to focus more on legal grounds for AI in education and future problems, while engineers see AI as a tool to bring quality and benefit for all in the education sector.

The article is devoted to the urgent problem – the prospect of partial or complete substitution of teachers for artificial intelligence. With the progress of technologies related to the artificial intelligent systems development the reality of such substitution is estimated as increasing one. At the same time, even the potential substitution of human teachers for artificial intelligence and robotics raises zillion of questions which should be considered from different points of view: cognitive, social, technological, etc. The philosophical perspective provides a reflective integration of these points of view. The most prominent contemporary projects of using artificial intelligence in education have been revealed in the article. The types of intelligent systems used in education are systematized. It is shown that all of them have a different degree of anthropology. Primarily cognitive aspects of the problem of artificial intelligence in education have been considered in the article. The connection of ideas about the possibility of teachers’ substitution for the artificial systems with various approaches to understanding the key principles of education and training is investigated. At the same time, there is a socially critical approach showing that the substitution of teachers for the artificial intellectual systems is a component of cognitive capitalism. The author of the article proposes to reformulate the problem and consider the use of artificial intelligence in education not as a substitutional but as a supplementing technology. This means that artificial systems assume certain functions working in symbiosis with a human teacher and partly playing the role of a tutor. Using the actor-network theory and the ontology of assemblages, referring to the cyberand xenofeminist interpretation of the concept of "cyborg" the author shows that the teacher together with the artificial intelligence can form a human-machine system. In this case artificial intelligence shows emancipation potential but not alienating one.

Artificial Intelligence in Education (AIED) may be described as the next big disruptor in higher education, however, AIED still only remains “evidence of a potential” Balslev (2020). Practical experience with AI in higher education is very limited and potential pedagogical applications of AI has so far not been given much attention. The objective of this paper is to analyse and discuss concrete applications of AI to support different learning activities in higher education using the ABC Learning Design approach Young and Perovic (2016). The purpose of the paper is to contribute to research in the practical use of AI in higher education by presenting the AI Pedagogy Planner and to start the important theoretical discussion of AI applications from a pedagogical point of view. The paper is based on empirical data from nine selected cases of AI use in higher education in Portugal, the United Kingdom and Denmark, respectively. The analysis demonstrated that there is a need for new views on the pedagogical use of AI in higher education. However, the paper goes further and outlines an AI Pedagogy Planner combining six overall learning activities with eight types of AI applications.

Most recently, IT-enabled education has become a very important branch of educational technology. Education is becoming more dynamic, networked, and increasingly electronic. Today’s is a world of Internet social networks, blogs, digital audio and video content, et cetera. A few clear advantages of Web-based education are classroom independence and availability of authoring tools for developing Web-based courseware, cheap and efficient storage and distribution of course materials, hyperlinks to suggested readings, and digital libraries. However, there are several challenges in improving Web-based education, such as providing for more adaptivity and intelligence. The main idea is to incorporate Semantic Web technologies and resources to the design of artificial intelligence in education (AIED) systems aiming to update their architectures to provide more adaptability, robustness, and richer learning environments. The construction of such systems is highly complex and faces several challenges in terms of software engineering and artificial intelligence aspects. This chapter addresses state of the art Semantic Web methods and tools used for modeling and designing intelligent tutoring systems (ITS). Also it draws attention of Semantic Web users towards e-learning systems with a hope that the use of Semantic Web technologies in educational systems can help the accomplishment of anytime, anywhere, anybody learning, where most of the web resources are reusable learning objects supported by standard technologies and learning is facilitated by intelligent pedagogical agents, that may be adding the essential instructional ingredients implicitly.

PurposeA growing number of international travellers have influenced how hotels manage their customer satisfaction reviews and ratings. This study examines the influence of knowledge sharing on employee service quality and customer satisfaction in the hotel industry. Another purpose of this study is to investigate the moderating effect of artificial intelligence (AI) system quality on the relationship between knowledge sharing on employee service quality and customer satisfaction.Design/methodology/approachThe research design was developed using the positivism approach and quantitative method. Data were collected via a self-administered survey from Vietnamese hotels that used AI systems in employees' work tasks. Three hundred and fifty pairs of questionnaires for frontline employees and customers were collected and used for the data analysis. Structural equation modelling was accessed to examine the framework model.FindingsThis research shows that the increase of knowledge sharing behaviours significantly influenced customer perceptions of employees' service quality. Furthermore, employee service quality positively affected customer satisfaction. An indirect impact of knowledge sharing on customer satisfaction via employee service quality was found. AI system quality moderated the effect of knowledge sharing on employee service quality whereby the higher the AI system quality, the stronger the impact of knowledge sharing on employee service quality. Therefore, a moderated mediation of employee service quality was found in examining the relationship between knowledge sharing and customer satisfaction.Research limitations/implicationsThis study's findings direct hotel knowledge management and marketing strategies to attract international customers. The study provides hotel managers with directions to increase customer satisfaction to create a competitive advantage in international marketing strategies.Originality/valueThis study's distinctive contribution lies in examining the phenomenon of employee service quality at the intersection of knowledge sharing and customer satisfaction and the use of AI systems from an emerging market context. Furthermore, the moderation role of AI quality has rarely been explored.
