This article has been retracted at the request of the authors. The retraction has been made because the authors admitted that they took the text and rawings from the review article written by R. Rowe and E. Colbourn, Future Medicinal Chemistry 1(4) (2009) 713-726, without their permission and even did not include this article in the list of references. One of the conditions of submission of a paper for publication are that authors confirm that their work is entirely originally written, someone else?s data and/or text are appropriately cited or quoted and permission has been obtained for use of copyrighted material from other sources. Therefore, the retracted article represents a severe improperly usage of the scientific publishing system. Apologies are offered to readers of the Chem. Ind. Chem. Eng. Q. that this abuse was not detected during the submission process.

Link to the retracted article 10.2298/CICEQ0904227I

The properties of a formulation are determined not only by the ratios in which the ingredients are combined but also by the processing conditions. Although the relationships between the ingredient levels, processing conditions, and product performance may be known anecdotally, they can rarely be quantified. In the past, formulators tended to use statistical techniques to model their formulations, relying on response surfaces to provide a mechanism for optimization. However, the optimization by such a method can be misleading, especially if the formulation is complex. More recently, advances in mathematics and computer science have led to the development of alternative modeling and data mining techniques which work with a wider range of data sources: neural networks (an attempt to mimic the processing of the human brain); genetic algorithms (an attempt to mimic the evolutionary process by which biological systems self-organize and adapt), and fuzzy logic (an attempt to mimic the ability of the human brain to draw conclusions and generate responses based on incomplete or imprecise information). In this review the current technology will be examined, as well as its application in pharmaceutical formulation and processing. The challenges, benefits and future possibilities of neural computing will be discussed.

This article has been retracted. Background: Conventional approach of formulating a new dosage form is a comprehensive task and uses various sources like man, money, time and experimental efforts. The use of AI can help to obtain optimized pharmaceutical formulation with desired (best) attributes. AI minimizes the use of resources and increases the understanding of impact, of independent variable over desired dependent responses/variables. Objective: Thus, the aim of present work is to explore the use of Artificial intelligence in designing pharmaceutical products as well as the manufacturing process to get the pharmaceutical product of desired attributes with ease. The review is presenting various aspects of Artificial intelligence like Quality by Design (QbD) & Design of Experiment (DoE) to confirm the quality profile of drug product, reduce interactions among the input variables for the optimization, modelization and various simulation tools used in pharmaceutical manufacturing (scale up and production). Conclusion: Hence, the use of QbD approach in Artificial intelligence is not only useful in understanding the products or process but also helps in building an excellent and economical pharmaceutical product.
