How frequently a character appears in a word (positional character frequency) is used as a cue in word segmentation when reading aloud in the Chinese language. In this study we created 176 sentences with a target word in the center of each. Participants were 76 college students (mature readers) and 76 third-grade students (beginner readers). Results show an interaction effect of age and positional frequency of the initial character in the word on gaze duration. Further analysis shows that the third-grade students’ gaze duration was significantly longer in high, relative to low, positional character frequency of the target words. This trend was consistent with refixation duration, and there was a marginally significant interaction between age and total fixation time. Overall, positional character frequency was an important cue for word segmentation in oral reading in the Chinese language, and third-grade students relied more heavily on this cue than did college students.

Using analysis of oral reading and eye movements, this study examined how third grade children used visual information as they orally read either the original or the adapted version of a picturebook.  Eye tracking was examined to identify when and why students focused on images as well as what they looked at in the images.  Results document children’s deliberate use of images and point to the important role of images in text processing. The content of images, availability and placement of text and images on a page, and children’s personal strategies affected the use of images.

This research aims to find out the implementation of revelation systematic based education on the characters of third grade students of SD Integral Rahmatullah Lempake, North Samarinda. The approach used in this research was qualitative. The type of the research was descriptive. This research was conducted at SD Integral Rahmatullah Lempake, North Samarinda. The data collection techniques were observation, interviews and documentation. The data analysis technique used resource clarification, data reduction, data presentation, conclusion and verification. The implementation of revelation systematic based education on the characters of third grade students of SD Integral Rahmatullah Lempake, North Samarinda are carried out through the approaches of: first, teacher modeling, second habituation at school such as Dhuha prayer, infaq (charity), etc. The supporting and obstructing factors in the implementation of revelation systematic based education on the characters of third grade students of SD Integral Rahmatullah are 1) supporting factors: first, the role of the school foundation on the policy of the programs implemented by the school, second, the role of the teachers in implementing the revelation systematic in learning, third, the active role of parents in the school program; 2) obstructing factors: first, the teachers’ character which is sometimes inconsistent in modeling, while teachers from outside are less knowledge on the revelation systematic, second, parents’ unconcern on the students’ bad behavior at home.

We used the Potsdam-Allahabad Hindi eye-tracking corpus to investigate the role of word-level and sentence-level factors during sentence comprehension in Hindi. Extending previous work that used this eye-tracking data, we investigate the role of surprisal and retrieval cost metrics during sentence processing. While controlling for word-level predictors (word complexity, syllable length, unigram and bigram frequencies) as well as sentence-level predictors such as integration and storage costs, we find a significant effect of surprisal on first-pass reading times (higher surprisal value leads to increase in FPRT). Effect of retrieval cost was only found for a higher degree of parser parallelism. Interestingly, while surprisal has a significant effect on FPRT, storage cost (another prediction-based metric) does not. A significant effect of storage cost shows up only in total fixation time (TFT), thus indicating that these two measures perhaps capture different aspects of prediction. The study replicates previous findings that both prediction-based and memory-based metrics are required to account for processing patterns during sentence comprehension. The results also show that parser model assumptions are critical in order to draw generalizations about the utility of a metric (e.g. surprisal) across various phenomena in a language.

ABSTRACTThe Role of Audio Visual Media in Increasing Interest in Learning Islamic Religious Education at SDN Teloko. The background of this research is the importance of increasing interest in learning Islamic religious education from an early age at school and outside of school to shape students' morals. From different student backgrounds, interest in learning PAI tends to be low, so learning strategies are needed that can increase interest in learning, one of which is by using learning media. For schools in rural areas, it is still rare to use learning media in the form of audio-visual because of various factors such as the absence of infrastructure and the lack of teachers who have the ability to use the media. However, at SDN Teloko, PAI teachers have started using audio-visual media as teaching media in the classroom. The purpose of this study was to determine the role of audio-visual media in increasing interest in PAI learning for third grade students at SDN Teloko, and to find out the results of its use and the supporting and inhibiting factors. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. The subjects of this study were third grade students of SDN Teloko and PAI teachers. Data was collected using structured free interviews and simple questionnaires to collect data from students and collect data documentation. The results of the interviews were reduced by selecting the answers that were important and then arranged systematically. The results of the research in the form of numbers are converted into a predicate of 75% - 100% "Effective", 50% - 75% "Quite Effective", below 50% "Not Effective". The data collected is poured in the form of a descriptive description. Next, conclusions are drawn. The results of this study indicate that: the role of audio-visual media in increasing interest in PAI learning for third grade students at SDN Teloko is quite effective, because the enthusiasm of students when learning is getting higher. Of the 21 respondents 100% said they enjoyed learning by watching videos played by the teacher. Interest in PAI lessons is known to be 42.85% of students with high interest and 57.14% of students with low interest and 0% of students who are not interested. The role of the media in helping students remember the material was also quite effective in 71.42% of students who stated that they could remember the material. Keywords: Learning Media, Interest in Learning, PAI

This research aimed at finding out the important rule of technology, and supporting and inhibiting factors in math among the third grade students of MI Ma’arif Pademonegoro. This research was field research by the design qualitative description study. The data collections were interview, observation, documentation, and analysis by using triangulation analysis. The tools of technology that often used by the teachers in Mathsss of third grade students in MI M’arif Pademonegoro were 1) laptop, 2) power point slide, 3) LCD. There were some supporting tools of education as: the preparation of teachers in learning process and technology tools. On the other hand, there were some obstacles in application such as the monotonous of teaching styles and passive students.
