The current study focuses on presenting the learning situation and the development of productive skills, namely, speaking and writing in a sample of second year students of Modern Greek Studies at the University of Belgrade. More specifically, the study consists of two parts. Initially, the paper presents the foreign language approach of teaching Greek at the B1 level as a foreign language and the teaching materials used within a specific Greek language course – Praktikum. Secondly, two tasks are administered to the subjects of the study in order to examine their productive skills and perform an error analysis of their output, followed by a questionnaire where they evaluate themselves and also the teaching process. The aim of the research is twofold: on the one hand, to show whether each student applies the same strategies in speaking and in writing, and to present the different dynamics that affect productive skills.

This paper is an attempt to analyze errors in the use of reference devices in argumentative and descriptive texts written by Yemeni EFL learners at the University of Aden. It particularly aimed at making a comparison between errors in the use of these devices in the argumentative genre and those in the descriptive genre as committed by Yemeni learners of English as a foreign language. It particularly relied on the methodology of error analysis. The sample of the study was eighteen students (n=18) of the third level in the Department of English at the Faculty of Education, University of Aden. The participants were chosen randomly to write two types of texts i.e. argumentative texts and descriptive texts.  For data analysis, procedures of identifying, classifying and quantifying were used in both types of texts. The results have shown that the argumentative texts included more errors in the use of reference devices than descriptive texts. The results also revealed that misuse of reference devices was the most problematic issue in both argumentative texts and descriptive texts.

This study presents a novel optimization methodology for choosing optimal building retrofitting strategies based on the concept of exergy analysis. The study demonstrates that the building exergy analysis may open new opportunities in the design of an optimal retrofit solution despite being a theoretical approach based on the high performance of a Carnot reverse cycle. This exergy-based solution is different from the one selected through traditional efficient retrofits where minimizing energy consumption is the primary selection criteria. The new solution connects the building with the reference environment, which acts as “an unlimited sink or unlimited sources of energy”, and it adapts the building to maximize the intake of energy resources from the reference environment. The building hosting the School of Architecture at the University of Navarra has been chosen as the case study building. The unique architectural appearance and bespoke architectural characteristics of the building limit the choices of retrofitting solutions; therefore, retrofitting solutions on the façade, roof, roof skylight and windows are considered in multi-objective optimization using the jEPlus package. It is remarkable that different retrofitting solutions have been obtained for energy-driven and exergy-driven optimization, respectively. Considering the local contexts and all possible reference environments for the building, three “unlimited sinks or unlimited sources of energy” are selected for the case study building to explore exergy-driven optimization: the external air, the ground in the surrounding area and the nearby river. The evidence shows that no matter which reference environment is chosen, an identical envelope retrofitting solution has been obtained.

This study is framed in the context of the pre-service masters degrees in the teaching of languages (Spanish as a foreign language + Portuguese as a mother tongue, and Spanish + English as foreign languages) given at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Porto. This training is preparation for the teaching of languages in lower and upper secondary education in Portugal.During the second year of these masters degrees, trainees conduct a teaching practicum in secondary schools and prepare a reflective portfolio related to this experience. One of the sections of this document is based on the descriptors of the European Portfolio for Student Teachers of Languages (EPOSTL).In this study, seventy-five trainee portfolios were collected from 2014 to 2019 and the written reflections related to the EPOSTL descriptors associated with “Culture” were selected for analysis. The objective was to analyse trainees’ concerns, interests and perceptions about culture and its didactics in Spanish classroom, and in light of this, consider how to improve the training offered.

The use of serious games is usually common, but digital games are not used in the teaching of German. This study aims to find out the attitude of students of German to the possible use of serious games in the teaching of German at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) and their impression of the game ‘secret of the sky disc’ introduced by the Goethe Institute for the learning of German as a foreign language. Two different sets of questionnaires were administered to the students of German of OAU. The resulting data were analysed, discussed and conclusions were drawn. The results show the readiness of students of German for the use of digital games in teaching German at the university. This article will demonstrate the methodology behind the way in which two quite different tools were used to complement each other. By using a variety of authentic source materials, and carefully integrating this material into a second year French course, the authors believe they have provided a rich source of material which other universities might well be able to exploit. The article will explain the advantages and disadvantages of some aspects of each of the tools, talk about the difficulty of overcoming common problems such as giving good feedback, adequately exploiting authentic material, and finish by presenting the results of their work on evaluating this material with students. Based on a case study in the Centre for Applied Language Studies at the University of Dundee, the article looks at the problems involved in producing CALL material using two separate authoring packages. It explores the exploitation of authentic material in a multimedia environment, looks at the advantages and disadvantages of the tools used by providing a comparative evaluation, and discusses the complex problems faced by teachers in developing CALL and integrating it into their courses.

The writer is interested in investigating the error analysis in using past tense in writing recount text a case study at the second year students of Madrasah Tsanawiyah Darul Ishlah Ireng Lauq at the academic year 2013/2014. The problem of the present study is limited in on the use of past tense in writing recount text. On the other hand, the general objective of the writing is to analyze the use of past tense in writing recount text. The specific objective is to know the students ability in using the past tense especially in writing recount text.The population of the study includes all students who have been studying at the second year of Madrasah Tsanawiyah Darul Ishlah Ireng Lauq at the academic year 2013/2014.The instrument of data collection is only one test. The test type/ part namely slot test. The test is confined to use the simple past tense. The data is analyzed by descriptive quantitative method. From the result of this analyze, the writer concludes the second year of the students of Madrasah Tsanawiyah Darul Ishlah Ireng Lauq at the academic year 2013/ 2014 has difficulty in identifying the past tense. This analyze shown that they make errors in using auxiliary did, errors in using verbs and other errors. Finally not only auxiliary did or verb as the specific study had most errors but also another errors appear without they realize, it happened because the lack of mastery in structure of past tense one of the tense in English.

ICT offers new teaching and/or learning methods, especially in the field of foreign languages. These new technologies develop not only new teaching and learning environments, but also raise the issue of their pedagogical integration in teaching French as Foreign language. This article aims at addressing issues related to the contribution of ICT in an action-oriented perspective “task” and “learning scenario” (Mangenot, 2003). The objective is to identify the pitfalls faced by teachers in their attempt to integrate new technologies in teaching FFL. Our assumption is that ICTs provides the learner a new way of acquiring knowledge and skills. This case study raises a number of concerns with regard to integration of ICT in the teaching of FFL. How for instance do teachers of French integrate ICT in their actual teaching in order to motivate and empower their learners? And then, what are the obstacles to the integration of new  technologies in the university system of teaching? By way of a systematic approach, this study discusses an experiment with undergraduate and postgraduate students who are using learning scenarios in written production activities by following well-defined instructions.

This study aims at giving an account of an analysis of errors made by Iraqi university students in the area of English Relativization system. It focuses mainly on dealing with the investigation of the syntactic errors committed by Iraqi students in English relative clause. This causes a major problem for university students learning English as a foreign language. This comes from the students' interlingual and intralingual strategies. This also indicates that the university students seem to depend on the target language (TL) system rather than on that of the native language (NL). The technique used is an error analysis which Wilkins (1972) highlights its value in giving "greater understandings of the difficulties that learners face, and will perhaps assist in the development of pedagogic strategies." (p. 206). After analyzing and interpreting the errors made in the 100 students' compositions, some recommendations are given.

The present article sets out to analyze the emergence and institutionalization of American Studies as an academic discipline in Romania, with a focus on the specific contexts and factors that influenced this process, and the ways in which its practitioners defined, constructed, and focused their endeavors. Taking the University of Bucharest as a case study and adding insights from other Romanian universities, the paper seeks to give an account of: 1) the ways in which the several decades-long tradition of teaching American literature in the Communist period (sporadically until the 1960s, but ever more substantially in the following decades) prepared the ground for the institutionalization of American Studies programs; 2) the “conditions of possibility” that enabled this institutionalization after the collapse of the Communist regime in 1989, with an emphasis on the restructuring of the Romanian higher education system, on the one hand, and the specific renegotiations of the field of American Studies, on the other; 3) American Studies curriculum development and its impact on Romanian academia as an example of curricular reform in the spirit of interdisciplinarity; 4) the situated contributions that Romanian Americanists have made to international scholarship in American Studies by bringing new research agendas to the fore.
