The subject of analysis in this study is the identification and analysis of the normative framework of a future banking union in the Economic Monetary Union. In this sense of the word, the research emphasis is on the issues concerning the need for establishment of a banking union, the prerequisites that must be met in both the national and the EC law, the advantages and disadvantages of using this supranational coordination mechanism of economic policy and its functions in terms of financial and economic disorders. In next paragraph, attention is paid to the new tasks of the main EU institutions in the process of implementation of the banking union, primarily European Central Bank, European Commission and European Parliament, where a general conclusion notes a need for their active role in implementing the concept of a banking union would not thus preserve legal certainty and to ensure optimal consumer protection, property, rights of depositors and conservation of overall economic stability.

The subject of the research is new tools for business financing using the initial coin offering (ICO) in the context of the development of cryptocurrencies and the blockchain technologies as their basis. The purpose of the work was to analyze the advantages and disadvantages of the ICO in comparison with traditional financial tools as well as prospects, limitations and problems of using digital financial tools. Conclusions are made in relation to possibilities, limitations and application areas of digital business financing tools, particularly in the real sector, taking into account the specifics of the Russian economy and legislation. It is shown that the main problems of using the digital financial tools are related to the economic sphere and caused by the lack of adequate approaches to evaluation of assets as well as the shortage of objective information. The problems and new tasks of corporate finance in the digital economy are defined.

One of the technical possibilities to solve a gauge crossing is to install a dual gauge. This solution has several advantages and disadvantages discussed in this paper. Lack of experience of maintenance and lack of standards for the design of dual track are among the most important disadvantages. The wheel and rail interface on track curves is more difficult than in straight sections. Therefore, the subject of the present article is a geometrical parameter of dual gauge track, i.e., the rail superelevation, which has an impact on the wheel–rail interaction at curves and influences the value of uncompensated acceleration, occurring when a train passes a curve, and, consequently, the intensity of rail wear. The objective of the present article is to analyse the features of dual gauge track and the superelevation calculation methodology considered, to present the approach to rational calculation of superelevation for dual gauge track of Šeštokai–Mockava (Lithuania–Poland) using several calculation versions as well as to make recommendations for the calculation of superelevation.

The subject of the study is derivative financial instruments. At the beginning of the article, the concept of a derivative financial instrument (PFI) is considered, their advantages and disadvantages are given, after which the risks of operations carried out with PFI are formulated. Further, the article discusses the main problems inherent in the PFI market and suggests a number of measures to solve these problems. In conclusion, recommendations are made that will allow for faster development of the Russian market of financial derivatives.

The new learning processes should be piloted therefore; Interior design schools should be updated according to the results of progress in teaching methods. For this reason, the objective of this study is to define the formulation of a mixed learning model for mathematics applications and technical models within the interior educational system. This paper’s main objective is to find explanations of incorporating the cotemporary interior design within the Mathematics & Modular art content, and to seek modern solutions featuring as new methods. This paper was carried out by experimental procedure in University of Petra/Department of Interior Design based on basic design courses in the academic years 2011-2012 where the researcher took a sample of ten student forms based on the models which were chosen in this experiment combining both difficulty & ease. The students have completed these ten shapes by altering mathematical approach (Latin square) to create a new pattern design. Art with Mathematical approaches have been applied in different practical applications as a basic design tool, and conclusions have been reached on the merits of the design. The advantages and disadvantages of teaching interior design have been introduced from Art & mathematical perspective as a method of design based on the results found during the practical applications of basic design projects and from information in publications on the subject. Relying on these proposed models, the proposals will constantly develop design tools. In conclusion, educating future designers to digest the essence of these approaches will make it possible to train professionals who correctly use and understand the developed technologies that can create futuristic designs.

This study explores early career researchers’ (ECRs) appreciation and utilisation of open access (OA) publishing. The evidence reported here results from a questionnaire-based international survey with 1600 participants, which forms the second leg and final year of a four year long, mixed methods, longitudinal study that sought to discover whether ECRs will be the harbingers of change when it comes to scholarly communications. Proceeding from the notion that today’s neophyte researchers, believed to hold millennial values of openness to change, transparency and sharing, may be best placed to power the take-up of OA publishing, the study sought to discover: the extent to which ECRs publish OA papers; the main reasons for their doing or not doing so; and what were thought to be the broader advantages and disadvantages of OA publishing. The survey data is presented against a backdrop of the literature-based evidence on the subject, with the interview stage data providing contextualisation and qualitative depth. The findings show that the majority of ECRs published in OA journals and this varied by discipline and country. Most importantly, there were more advantages and fewer disadvantages to OA publishing, which may be indicative of problems to do with cost and availability, rather than reputational factors. Among the many reasons cited for publishing OA the most important one is societal, although OA is seen as especially benefiting ECRs in career progression. Cost is plainly considered the main downside.

On 1 may 2004, 10 new Member States joined the European Union. This meant inter alia that, save for the express derogations provided for in the Act of Accession, the entire mass of Community secondary legislation became binding in the new Member States. This principle of the immediate effects of Community law in the new Member States was provided for in Article 2 AA: From the date of Accession, the provisions of the original Treaties and the acts adopted by the institutions and the European Central Bank before Accession shall be binding on the new Member States and shall apply in those States under the conditions laid down in those Treaties and in this Act.

The application of vibration as a means of industrial drive has been considerably developed in the last twenty years. Starting from the obvious application of screening, it has been extended to conveying, heat interchanging, consolidation of material in packages to reduce shipping space, keeping material “fluid” in hoppers and chutes, hammering, etc. The paper discusses that part of the subject involved in the production and control of the vibration by mechanical or electrical means under all conditions of load. Formulae are developed for calculation of spring strength and for the calculation of the spring dimensions, and for the avoidance of spring fatigue. The various methods of electrical excitation are compared, and the relative advantages and disadvantages are discussed. The desirable instrument equipment is described, including the remote indication of vibration amplitude. A method is outlined by which it is claimed that vibration can be maintained constant at all loads and at any desired frequency. The testing of vibrating drives at the manufacturer's works and on site is discussed. In an Appendix to the paper the problem of transverse vibrations in long vibrating conveyors is treated mathematically, and a formula is developed for the natural frequency of transverse vibration of a conveyor of any uniform section and of any length.

Purpose This paper aims to analyzing the main risk culture traits of a sample of Central Banks and Supervisory Authorities in Europe as well as of the European Central Bank (ECB). Design/methodology/approach Risk culture is measured through text data processing of the official discourses made by the head Supervisory Authorities, during the years from 1999 to 2012. Findings Results highlight heterogeneous but converging risk cultures for European Union (EU) supervisors and the presence of a “distance” between these cultures and the risk culture of the ECB. Originality/value The paper points out that cultural differences, especially in presence of credit markets still characterized by poor integration, could create unwanted distortion effects during the initial stages of the Banking Union.
