The aim of this study was to investigate the factors that affect quality service provision and students’ satisfaction at Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development. Descriptive survey research was used for the study. Simple random sampling was used to select third and final year undergraduate students in Kumasi and Mampong campuses. The total population of the study was 1642. Parasuram’s SERQUAL instrument type of questionnaire was adopted as a research instrument for data collection. The internal consistency of the 32-items yielded a Cronbach Alpha value of 0.91. The data gathered were quantitatively analysed with the use of descriptive and inferential statistics. The results of the study showed a statistically strong and direct relationship between quality in commitment, social and financial bonds, communication, general academic conditions and administrative support and students’ satisfaction which in turn influenced institutional image and students’ loyalty. This indicates that students had high expectations in the five-dimensional variables that stood as proxy for quality service provisions by the University. It was recommended that university management should appoint competent academic and administrative staffs to positions, provide them with adequate professional development programmes to improve their commitment in teaching and learning, communication and other service provisions. More so, management should be proactive towards adequate infrastructural provision for students in order to improve their academic work in a conducive learning environment. Lastly, the study will benefit other universities in Ghana to identify cost effective ways of improving service quality provision.

This study investigated the perceptions of undergraduate students at the University of Ilorin, Nigeria, of the usefulness and challenges associated with computer-based testing. The population for the study consisted of undergraduate students at the University of Ilorin. According to the data collected from the Directorate of Academic Planning at the University of Ilorin, Nigeria, the population of undergraduate students for the 2017/2018 academic session was 43 983. A simple random sampling technique was used to select the sample. A questionnaire was used as data collection instrument. The findings from the study showed that using a web-based assessment system contributed positively to the undergraduate students’ academic achievements while the majority of them preferred taking all their exams with the web-based assessment system. The findings further revealed that to the undergraduate students, CBT is an interesting technique in examinations and makes the taking of examinations easier. Also, there is high level of competence among undergraduate students with regard to possession of the required skills for CBT examinations. Delays in the commencement of the exams, power failures at the CBT centre and overcrowding are major challenges encountered by the students taking CBT examinations. One of the study recommendations was that the university management should endeavour to eliminate the delays in the commencement of tests by providing assessment timetables which should be strictly adhered to.

AbstractEvidence from literature shows that deviant behavior is on high side among undergraduates in Nigeria whereas some certain psychosocial factors causing this phenomenon have not been fully explored. This study examined whether age, gender, socio-economic status and attitude towards drug abuse determine deviant behavior among the undergraduate students. It adopted ex-post facto design. Simple random sampling technique was used to sample 269 participants. The Prescription Drug Attitudes Questionnaire (PDAQ) and Deviant Behavior Variety Scale (DBVS) were used to gather data from the participants. T-test analysis and multiple regression were used to test the formulated hypotheses. The results revealed that age, monthly allowance and attitude towards drug abuse have significant joint prediction of deviant behavior (R=.358 R2 =.128, F=10.594, p<.05) while only attitude towards drug abuse independently predicted deviant behavior (R=.236, R2 =.056 F = 17.112; p<.01). Also, there was a significant gender difference on deviant behavior [t (293) = 4.196, p<.01], where male respondents scored high significantly (M=4.09, SD=3.44) compared to female respondents (M=2.53, SD=2.31) on deviant behavior. It is therefore recommended that policy makers in educational sector and the governing council of tertiary institutions need to create awareness on the debilitating effects of drugs on students’ behavior, especially among males.

This study conducted in an EFL setting investigates students’ perception of the thesis proposal presentation in an online format due to safety concerns during the Covid-19 pandemic. Fifty-five students aged 20-22 years old, level B2-C1 in English, in their fourth year of a Business Informatics Bachelor’s programme at HSE University, Moscow, were surveyed regarding their end-of-course assessment experience, which involved a Skype online presentation, rather than the usual face-to-face presentation. Data were collected using a researcher-made questionnaire consisted of 3 sections and 12 items. A mixed-method approach using quantitative and qualitative data was employed. The findings indicate that emergency transition to the new format did not affect students’ satisfaction or results of the presentation. Overall, students were more than satisfied with the online format, and the results were similar, if not better, than in previous years. To minimise the disadvantages of this format, recommendations for teachers and students were offered. This study might offer new insight on the most appropriate and beneficial oral testing system for students and staff.

Currently universities need to be competitive. The current environment forces universities to design strategies where the student becomes the center of their activity. Elements such as student satisfaction become key performance indicators of the strategy, so that universities are required to establish metrics that make it possible to measure the level of performance achieved based on the objectives they had previously set. In order to verify it, through a series of dimensions that measure the satisfaction of the teaching-learning process, a scale has been proposed to measure satisfaction. To confirm the consistency of the proposed scale, the reliability and validity indicators of the same were verified. The selected sample corresponds to university students studying undergraduate and master’s degrees in the online mode. Results obtained show the importance of correctly setting the objectives and contents of the different subjects that make up the curricula of each grade, as well as the outstanding role that the teacher has in said process.
