Background: Social media is basically a tool for someone to interact with other people with use of internet. In futher, social media is not only used as a tool for interact with others, but it can be used on learning process. This study aims to analyse correlation betwen duration of using a social media with academic performance.Method: This study used a cross sectional design. Respondents on this study are 126 undergraduates students on fourth years in Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Islam Sumatera Utara. Using of a social media are measured by how long a student use of a social media based on their purpose (learning or entertainment). Results from the measurement will grouping into two different group, that is using of a social media for learning group and for entertainment group. The academic performance was measured by calculating a Grade Point Average (GPA) of each student. The collected data were analyzed by using Spearman Correlation method.Results: There was a significant correlation betwen duration of using a social media for learning process with academic performance (r = 0,554, p = 0,0001). Similarly, there are a significant correlation betwen duration of using a social media for entertainment with academic performance (r = -0,568, p = 0,0001), but the coefficient correlation have a negative value.Conclusion: The social media have an impact to academic performance, where the students who used more social media as a learning process have a good GPA and the students who used more social media as a entertainment have a bad GPA. Sugesstions that can be given based on this study are the use of social media can be considered as a tool for helping students enhancing learning process.

Background.Little research exists on the impact of paid work on academic performance of students of health sciences. No research exists on this subject for students in Colombia.Objectives.This paper seeks to analyze the impact of paid work on academic performance among nursing students. Design, settings and participants: cross-sectional research, involving 430 of nursing students from the National University of Colombia (N= 566).Methods.Variables analyzed: sex, age, work activity, attendance, current semester, degree subjects studied and unavailable, lost credits, grades during the second semester of 2013, and delayed semesters. Subgroups analyzed: (i) according to labor activity: do not work, work up to 20 h and work more than 20 h per week; (ii) Grade point average: failing is considered as less than 3.0 and passing 3.0 or above out of 5.0. Percentage of delayed semesters were calculated. Qualitative and quantitative variables were analyzed for groups by work activity. The percentage and probability of students getting a grade point average less than 3.0 and delaying semesters were calculated by multivariate logistic regression.Results. A total of 219 of the students work (50.9%), the main reason is socioeconomic, of which 99 (45.2%) work more than 20 h per week and have an increased risk of failing, which is higher in the first semester. They also get lower grades, lose more credits and take longer to finish the degree. The logistic bivariate regressions of success (grade point average, credits gained, courses gained and not having delayed semesters) reduce with work, above all in those who work more than 20 h per week and increase as the number of semesters completed increases, independent of sex.Conclusion.A high percentage of nursing students work more than 20 h per week. The compatibility of paid work with studies in university nursing students has a negative impact on academic performance, more so when they work more than 20 h per week. This negative impact diminishes as the student completes semesters, irrespective of the sex of the students.

Abstract Background:  Social media are tools that supports electronic conversation. suggested , social media are “a group of internet-based applications that build on the ideological and technological foundations of Web 2.0, that allow the creation and exchange of User Generated Content. Aim of the study: Is to identify the pattern of usage of social media among a sample of Iraqi medical students including the devices used, the time consumed, and   the purpose of usage. Materials &Methods: The study, which is a retrospective cross-sectional, was conducted among medical students at college of Medicine\Baghdad University at 2019 as an online survey for duration of 3 months Data was entered and analyzed using spss version 24.Informed consent was obtained from the participants and the study was approved by the research committee in the college. Results The mean age of the participants in this study was 20.8 with sd 1.78. Results had shown no significant association between the usefulness of social media for educational values and type of social media, device used, and the time spent on these media. Results had shown that those who use social media more frequently were not significantly worried about the potential of social media abuse. Conclusions A study exploring more objectively the relationship between students’ use of social media with their academic achievements and what sort of social media interventions associated with better learning are probably needed. Such knowledge may be useful to guide medical educators to better utilize social media in their instructional strategies.

Technological developments and changes in communication systems in postmodern world have enhanced the organizations to improve their own communication infrastructures and to effectively use their internet sites. Like all other organizations, sport club institutions have considered the vital importance of investing in social media activities and creating their corporate reputation through their connections with their supporters. Thus, social media channels and public relations via social media have been the most essential tools of the organizations to build company image and increase their corporate reputation among the stakeholder groups, particularly their supporters. Taking into account the suggested influence of effective use of social media on building corporate reputation, the current study examined the relationship between supporters’ social media usage frequency and their perceptions of corporate reputation. A cross-sectional research design has been applied in order to obtain data about the corporate reputation perception levels and social media usage frequencies of the supporters as well as the demographic characteristics of the participants. The sample group was composed of 782 participants and data obtained was examined by executing statistical analyses. The findings revealed that individuals’ social media usage frequency has positive effect on the perceived corporate reputation. In addition, demographic differences were observed in terms of the social media usage frequency and corporate reputation perception. Consequently, the results of the study were discussed in the light of the conceptual background and the previous empirical evidences. The managerial and conceptual implications of the study were evaluated and future directions were presented.

Purpose. The objective of this research was to investigate the use of social media for educational purposes by healthcare quality personnel in Saudi Arabia. Participants and Methods. A cross-sectional design study was carried out with 78 healthcare quality employees working in different hospitals in Saudi Arabia. The survey was distributed through WhatsApp, and the data were collected during November 2019. The results were analyzed and expressed in percentages using basic statistic tools. Results. More than half of the participants (74.36%) were under 40 years old, and the gender was equally distributed among them. The participants used the following social media in decreasing order for educational purposes: YouTube, Twitter, LinkedIn, Snapchat, Instagram, and Facebook. The largest proportion of them employed YouTube, and the least used social media network was Facebook. The majority of them (58.87%) employed these platforms more than 3 hours daily. Most respondents (82%) agreed that social media can be used to educate on healthcare quality topics, and YouTube was the preferred platform for this goal. The reasons for using social media for professional purposes were networking (27%), education and professional development (24%), and health promotion (13%). Most of the responses considered that social media networks were somehow helpful and very helpful for improving knowledge about the profession (96.20%), improving creativity (90%), improving decision making (83.33%), improving critical skills (80.77%), and improving problem-solving abilities (79.49%). Conclusion. The findings showed that a high percentage of the healthcare quality personnel in Saudi Arabia used social media for educational purposes, and the most used platform for this objective was YouTube. The results suggested that social media can be potentially useful to perceive healthcare quality in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Background: A social networking site is an online platform that allows users to create a public profile and interact with other users on the website. The emergence of Social Networking Sites has broadened the base of contact, interaction and communication among people living round the globe via internet. Millions of students are logging in to these social networking sites, everyday. That’s why many students have been blaming various social networking sites for their steady decrease in grade point averages and has affected their study time, poor grammar and wrong spellings when socializing on social media as well as diverting their attention from their studies. The objective of this research is to find the impact and perception of social networking sites on academic performance of medical students. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study design conducted among 230 Medical students of MBBS, BPH, Pharmacy and BN Nursing’s students. A well-structured questionnaire was prepared and which were distributed among students using probability sampling technique (random number table). Results: The response of 230 students was collected by using well structure questionnaire. The mean±SD of students age was 21.87±2.16 years. Majority of the students were in the age group 20-25 years. Majority of them were female by gender and Hindu by religion. They most commonly used social networking site was face book/messenger (48.7%) followed by YouTube (41.3%). The main aim of using these sites is to update with their family, friends and for entertainment. Nearly 60% students told that there are negative effects of using social networking sites. And only 15.6% students used these sites only for academic purpose. Conclusions: This study revealed that majority of the students used mobile phone as a device and Wi-Fi in their place of residence. The overall perception of students towards social networking sites is positive. Excessive use of these sites decreases their academic performance which conclude that there is Negative relationship between the use of social networking sites and academic performance which in turn negatively affect their academic results.

Information and Communication technology has played a vital role in various aspects of our life. In our present study, we focus on the impact of ICT in communication, education and learning. ICT ushers with both negative and positive impacts on the life of humans. It influences students’ knowledge, attitude and skill. ICT promotes a learning environment, among teachers and students, by providing virtual space and experience, mediated through technology. Smart classroom induces interest, elicits students’ attention, elevates their understanding capacity, grasping skills and memory, with the help of multimedia teaching aids. It brings focus to the topic. In this fast-moving technology mediated world, usage of mobile phones and social media has become inexorable. The global phenomenon—anytime, anywhere learning—is made possible because of the ubiquity of smartphones. With traditional classroom learning on one side, social media platforms, on the other side, are providing virtual spaces for unconventional and collaborative learning. Students choose such technologies as supportive alternatives for their academic-intended communication with teachers and peers. Through this study, the researchers aim to measure the attitude of college students towards social media and the related influence on their academic performance, with reference to Coimbatore region. A survey was conducted among 507 college students from Coimbatore, chosen through a multistage stratified random sampling technique. The demographic variables—including age, gender and educational qualification and the dependent variables—included Academic performance, Time spent on social media per day, Time spent on social media during weekdays, Time spent on social media during weekends. Further result states that there is sizeable relationship between the employed social media attitude variables and the academic performance of the students, and no relationship with the time spent on social media. However, it was found that among social media attitudes, addictiveness and communication are the best predictors of academic performance.

Background: The use of social media by students helps to have access to basic information as quick as possible but numerous universities and schools around the world restrict the access to social networks within its buildings to help students to concentrate on their studies. Aim: The aim of this article is to assess the impact of social media on academic performance of pharmacy students. Methodology: The present study includes gathering data from students through a survey research design to determine the effect of social media usage on their academic performance. The survey was adapted from a previous study and after that it is converted to online Google Form. Results: Most of the participants in the present study said that their academic achievement is excellent (41.67%) or very good (41.67%). The majority of the students agree that the use of social media is useful in educational institutions, social media can be used to arrange group discussions with the experts and that it can be used to fix an appointment with other subject experts. The majority of the students also agree that they can receive announcements from lecturers and faculty using social media. Conclusion: The majority of the students feel that social media affect their academic performance positively and about half of them feel that social media affect their performance negatively. It is important to increase their awareness about the importance of regulating social media usage.

Objective:To assess the dental practitioners' use of social media, concerning demographic and social variables and the impact of social media use on dental practice.Methods:The study was a cross-sectional analytical study of dental practitioners in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. A self-administered 30-items questionnaire was distributed to 438 dentists, which included eight questions related to background and demographic information and 22 questions related to the use of social media within the dental practice. Data were entered and analyzed usingSPSSsoftware. Data analysis included frequency distributions and chi-square tests to assess the association of social media use with demographic and social variables and its impact on dental practice. Significant level was considered ifpwas less than 0.05.Results:Of participating, 338 dentists, 52% were using social media in their practice. Twitter was the most commonly used (35%). Education was the primary purpose of using social media (43%), while entertainment was the least (8%). Approximately 62% and 68% are using social media for marketing of their dental practice and broadcasting treatment outcome, respectively. Social media was observed to be used significantly higher among Non-Saudi, general and private dentists. Participating dentists who used social media in their practice significantly recommended using social media to other dentists.Conclusion:In general, non-Saudis, general practitioners and dentists practicing in private clinics are significantly using more social media during their practice. The majority of dental practitioners indicated that social media has improved their dental practice and become an indicator of successful practice.

In this technical world, young youth of India enjoyed to spend their foremost time on social media. Not only in cities but also in rural areas, it found that the present generation has attraction towards social media. In today’s world, life cannot be imagined without social media like WhatsApp, Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, LinkedIn and Twitter accounts etc. In the present work, we have study the impact of use of social media on academic performance and moral values of students located in omerga sub-district. This expressive, investigative study surveyed the types of social media platforms students commonly use, the amount of time students spend on social media, the purposes for which students use the social media and the influence of social media use on students’ academic as well as social life. The study also found that majority of students agreed that their educational performance is influenced due to the massive use of social media. Additionally, near about 50% students from these colleges think them self as they are addicted to use of social media. Keywords: Social media, Students life, Academic performance, Molar values.

This paper aims at two things; first, see the participants' interest if learning is carried out with e-learning. Second, how the impact of the use of social media and reward point methods on the improvement in evaluation of learning outcome. The method used is a survey and experiment. The survey is used to find out whether the reward point and/or social media method will affect employee motivation in e-learning process. Experiments are used to see the impact of the use of both methods on selected samples. The sample used was employees of PT PJB Services located in Head Office and selected by purposive technique. Data analysis used ANOVA Test to measure whether the treatment had a significant effect on the dependent variable. This paper is expected to prove that learning, especially studied in this paper, that combined with these both methods will affect positively to employee learning motivation and support the improvement of learning outcome. The results obtained are e-learning with reward points and posting the learning process on Instagram significantly increase employee motivation in learning. However, e-learning with reward points and posting the learning process on Instagram did not significantly affect on increased of evaluation of employee learning outcomes.
