Indonesia has large area of marginal land including coast sandy soil and post coal mining soil areas. Reclamation process for marginal land needs long time and high cost, hence, strategic treatments are necessary to reduce both time and cost. This research aims to analyze the effects of media (coast sandy soil, alluvial deposit, and post coal mining soil) and legume over crop Centrocema pubescens on the growth of mahogany seedlings. This research was conducted at green house for 3 months using Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 3 x 2 factorials and 3 replications. The first factor was marginal soil (three levels: coast sandy soil, post coal mining soil, and alluvial deposit as reference) while the second factor was the application of legume cover crop (two levels: apply and not apply). Variables observed were the height, diameter, biomass, and nutrient content of mahogany seedlings. The results showed that the growth of mahogany in sandy soil media is the best though nutrient content in that media is the lowest. It was caused reduction of salinity from that media. While, up to 3 months old, C. pubescens grew competitively.

Pumpkin is a promising commodity to be developed as food substitute for flour-based flour. Pumpkin cultivation is currently cultivated by farmers on dry land as secondary crop. Pumpkin cultivation constraints as requires a large area and long time. Pumpkin commodities development can be done by hydroponic substrates cultivation that have advantages to accelerate the plant growth, can be cultivated on limited area, and increase the quality of plant yields. The hydroponic substrate cultivation depends on the quality of nutrients as well as the availability of the nutrients. The aim of this research is to study the response of plant flowering to the composition of nutrients (modification of the balance of Nitrogen and Phosphor) and concentration of hydroponic substrate nutrition solution and interaction between treatments. This research used Completely Randomized Design which consists of 2 factors, nutritional composition and concentration of solution with 3 replications and each treatment consist of 6 plants. Observation variables included flower age, flower position, and number of flowers. The results showed that there were interactions between the treatment of nutrient composition and adjustment concentration on the observing variables flower age appear, and flower position. Nutritional composition with the balance of elements of Phosphorus and Nitrogen shows the higher balance of Phosphorus elements followed by lower Nitrogen elements tend to give a lower response to flowering pumpkin on hydroponic substrate. Adjustment lower concentration of application solutions (20 ml concentrated in 1 L solution) or equivalent to EC 3.8-4.0 mS/cm gives a better response to flowering pumpkin on hydroponic substrate.

Organic amendments are important sources of nutrients that release upon organic matter degradation, yet the stability of these organics in arid and semi-arid regions is relatively low. In contrast, humic substances (HS) are resistant to biodegradation and can keep nutrients in the soil available for the plant over a long time. Combinations between humic substances (HS) and mineral-N fertilizers are assumed to retain higher available nutrients in soils than those recorded for the sole application of either mineral or organic applications. We anticipate, however, that humic substances might not be as efficient as the organics from which they were extracted in increasing NP uptake by plants. To test these assumptions, faba bean was planted in a pot experiment under greenhouse conditions following a complete randomized design while considering three factors: two soils (calcareous and non-calcareous, Factor A), two organics (biogas and compost, Factor B) and combinations of the organics and their extracts (HA or FA) together with complementary doses of mineral-N ((NH4)2SO4) to attain a total rate of 50 kg N ha−1 (the recommended dose for faba bean plants) (Factor C). Results indicated that nitrogenase activity increased significantly due to the application of the used organics. In this respect, compost manure caused higher nitrogenase activity than biogas manure did. Humic substances raised NP-availability and the uptake by plants significantly; however, the values of increase were lower than those that occurred due to the compost or biogas manure. Moreover, the sole application of the used organics recorded the highest increases in plant biomass. Significant correlations were also detected between NP-availability, uptake and plant biomass. This means that HS could probably retain nutrients in available forms for long time periods, yet nutrients released continuously but slowly upon decomposition of organics seemed more important for plant nutrition.

This research aimed to determine the effect of crude palm oil protected with formaldehyde on the hydrogenation of unsaturated fatty acids in the rumen and its effect on blood and meat fatty acids. Fifteenth local male lambs aged 9-12 months weighing 14-17 kg, were divided into 3 groups ration treatment. The first group received only the basal ration (R0), the 2nd group received the basal ration and 3% CPO (R1), while the 3rd group received the basal ration and 3% CPO protected with 2% formaldehyde (R2). Basal feed consisted of 60% grass, 30% bran and 10% soybean meal, with the nutrient content of 62.98% TDN, 45.5% DM, 14.48% CP, 4.70% EE and 21.93% CF. Parameters observed were the fatty acid from rumen fluid, blood and meat of sheep. Data were analyzed by complete randomized design direction patterns. Differences between treatments were tested further using Duncan's New Multiple Range Test. The results showed that treatment of R2 can increase unsaturated fatty acids in the rumen, blood and meat (P

ABSTRACT Diplodon granosus was one of the first freshwater mussels to be described for South America. However, the status of the species was confusing for a long time, receiving different taxonomic treatments. In this paper, we redescribe the shell, with new data on the soft parts and information on the distribution and conservation of D. granosus, a rarely recorded species. The shell is thin, not inflated; the macrosculpture is composed only by granules that cover the whole shell, not forming bars; the microsculpture comprises short spikes. In the soft parts we highlight the few, weak and irregularly distributed lamellar connections of the outer demibranch and some features of the stomach, such as the distally enlarged minor typhlosole. There are records of D. granosus over a large area of South America, from Guiana to Argentina. However, most of these records are related to other species and the distribution of D. granosus is restricted to the north of South America in the basins of the Amazonas and Orinoco rivers, and coastal rivers in between. Despite this wide distribution, the species occurs in specific habitats, mainly streams (igarapés), resulting in an extremely fragmented occurrence. Thus, any disturbance to these habitats can threat this freshwater mussel.

Inhibition hydrolysis of carbohydrate by mulberry leaves extractABSTRACT. Mulberry leaves has a great potential as animal feeds because of its high nutrient content, but has deoxynojirimycin (DNJ) active matter. It is potential to inhibit carbohydrate hydrolysis process, come to monosaccharides. The objective of this experiment is to study the inhibiting ability of mulberry leave extract in carbohydrate hydrolysis process. The kinds of carbohydrates were using glucose, maltose, sucrose and starch. This experiment used twenty four of 60 days old male mice (Mus musculus). Diet and water were given ad libitum. Treatment were allocated ina factorial completely randomized design with three replications and two factors containing of completely mulberry leaves extract and variance of carbohydrates. Variable observed were feed consumtion, feed digestibility, body weight gain and blood glucose. The data were analyzed with univariate analysis of variance. The result showed that inclusion of mulberry leaves extract had decrease body weight (P 0,05) and reduce blood glucose (P 0,05).

Hybrid moth orchid (genus Phalaenopsis) is one of the most popular ornamentals in Indonesia. It has beautiful and long-lasting flowers, but cultivating this orchid is still become a challenging issues due to the need of specific condition to grow and long time period to re-blooming. Plant growth regulators (PGR) (i.e. Benzyladenine (BA)) has been widely documented as a flower-inducing substance in several orchids. However, the optimal concentration and its mechanism in inducing flower-stalk bud and re-blooming is still unclear. This research aimed to study the effects of BA application in the form of lanolin paste on hybrid Phalaenopsis flower-stalk buds. We conducted this study using completely randomized design with four replications at the greenhouse laboratory Faculty of Agriculture University of Lampung on August to December 2018. We divided the orchid into 5 group of BA concentration (0, 1000, 1500, 3000, or 6000 ppm). The sheath of the fourth or fifth buds of the flowers were carefully opened, then it smeared with BA. The percentage of bud break into flower spike or keiki, length of shoots or spike and number of open flowers were recorded until 10 weeks of observation. The results showed that, neither of the buds under the control treatment (without BA), 1000 ppm nor 1500 ppm BA broke and grew into keiki or spike. On the other hand, application of BA at 3000 ppm or 6000 ppm successfully induced 100% flower spikes on the buds treated. No keiki was formed in all buds treated. In addition, treatment of the buds with 6000 ppm BA produced longer flower spikes as well as more open flowers. We conclude that the application of BA (minimal 3000 ppm) successfully induced flower spike of hybrid Phalaenopsis.

A research to study the effects of Zeolite and nitrogen fertilizer application on vegetative growth of maize crop in coastal sandy soil was conducted on the research field of Agriculture Faculty, Muhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta at Tamantirto, Bantul District of Yogyakarta during October until February, 2003. This research was aimed on the study of Zeolite application in order to enhance the nitrogen uptake in the coastal sandy soil, and its effects on vegetative growth of CP I variety of maize. The pot experiment was arranged in 7 x 3 factorial completely randomized design, with 4 replications. The first factor was Zeolite dosage consisted of 7 levels, i.e: 0, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 %; and the second one was 3 levels nitrogen fertilizer dosage which consisted of: 75, 110, and 145 kg/ ha. The nitrogen fertilizer was applied on the medium mixed with Zeolite granules. Observations on plant height, stem diemeter, leaves number, plant fresh and dry weight were done during the vegetative growth of maize. The results showed that Zeolite application significantly enhanced the vegetative growth of CPI maize. The 5,2 - 5,6 % Zeolite was optimum to gave the maximum growth of maize crop. Nitrogen fertilizer application was also significantly increased the plant height and biomass weight, and the 145 kg/ha was the optimum dosage. There was no interaction between Zeolite and nitrogen fertilizer application in order to affected the maize growth.

This study was conducted in the Poultry farm of the animal during the Production department, Iraqi during the (Ministry of Science and Technology) period from 3-9-2001 to 8-4-2002. The objectives of this study were to evaluate the effect of low – level chronic aflatoxicosis on performance (body weight, feed conversion efficiency and mortality), Serum biochemistry and activity of some enzymes (GOT,GPT, ALKP, LDH). A total of 300 male chicks of broiler breeder (Faw–Bro) were used. Chicks at day 1 of age were fed diets contaminated with aflatoxine at levels of 0, 0.3, 0.6, 0.9, 1.2, and 1.5 the feeding period were extended to 8 weeks. The data were subjected to analysis of variance by the completely randomized design. The results showed the presence of a number of fungi especially the type of Aspergillus flavus genus that reaches 40%. All aflatoxine dose levels significantly (P < 0.05) decreased live weight, it was also noticed that there were higher significant decrease in feed conversion when aflatoxine level was elevated in the feed. Increasing mortality with each increasing in aflatoxine level, the low level of chronic aflatoxine in the diets caused increased in the relative weight of internal organs (Liver, Pancreases, spleen, heart, gizzard, fibresia gland) as a results of aflatoxine presence in the diet, the low level of chronic aflatoxicosis for long time decreased in packed cell volume percentage, heamoglbulin concentration and red blood cell cont., with increase in white blood cells and (neutrophil, Hetrophil, Lymphocyte). The aflatoxine increased the serum concentration of protein, albumin, Cholesterol, Phosphor the activity of LDH, GOT, GPT, AIKP.
