Patent is one of the lever factors in improving the nation's competitiveness. A reward to an inventor is one way that can be taken to increase the productivity and patent development in Indonesia. The social network analysis on the relationship of co-invention and registered patents can identify inventing actors who deserves the award. Joko Waluyo obtained an actor who is considered central to the co-invention social network relationships of registered patents in LIPI. It is based on the high value of betweeness and closeness to the node Joko Waluyo. In addition, it was found that the prolific inventor does not always mean a central actor in the social network.

The uncertainty and complexity of natural hazards put forward new requirements for emergency management systems. In order to deal with natural hazards effectively, it is important to build a cooperative network between government organizations and social organizations. The social network analysis method is adopted, the April 2013 Ya’an China earthquake is taken as a case study, the institutionalized emergency organization network before the disaster and the actual response organization network after the disaster are analyzed, and centrality, between centrality, closeness centrality and core-periphery are calculated. Through qualitative and quantitative research, the functions of social organization in the process of natural hazards emergency relief are revealed, the role orientation of social organization in the emergency management network is analyzed, and the influence factors of the social organization participation in the natural hazards relief is pointed out. Research results will help to promote the cooperation between social organization and government, and improve the efficiency of natural hazards emergency relief.

This study aims to construct a theoretical framework to analyze the elements of the network structure and the relationship system within the seafood supply chain. The scope of the investigation is to evaluate how these elements influence the flow of products and the efficiency of the seafood supply chain and why these social interactions can create value and enhance competitive advantage. The model combines the resource- and knowledge-based view and the social network analysis applied to seafood supply chains. To demonstrate the application of the model, two theoretical examples and a real case study of the Mercado del Mar in Guadalajara, Mexico, are used. Primary data are obtained from semi-structured interviews, social network analysis metrics, and qualitative analysis. Findings are based on the analysis of theoretical examples and must be considered with caution. Nevertheless, the observations in the examples and case study provide new arguments to the relationship between the pattern of interrelationship and the efficiency of a supply chain. This study emphasizes the necessity of combining quantitative and qualitative analyses to understand and explain real-life supply networks.

With the development of information technology, more and more data about social to be collected. But the increasing amount of data and analysis to put forward a huge challenge. Now the social networks have already surpassed the processing ability of the original analysis means, must use a more effective tool to complete the analysis task. The computer as a way of helping people from massive data to find the potential useful knowledge tools, play an important role in many fields. Social network analysis, also known as link mining, refers to the handling of the relationship between social network data in the computer method. In this paper, the methods of computer and the social network analysis was introduced in this paper and the computer algorithms are summarized in the application of social network analysis.

Readers who participate in social reading activities can play a variety of roles. These roles can reflect differences in the behaviors among readers and influence the knowledge sharing and information flowing in the social reading process. This study investigates a community of university students’ roles in the WeChat reading activities. Social Network Analysis approach was adopted for analyzing the data in WeChat reading. Results indicate that different roles have different effects on the connection between subgroups and the dissemination of information, which can cause influences on the generation and development of social reading networks as well. This study offers implications for facilitating readers’ interactions and knowledge sharing in the social reading contexts.

AbstractRecentdecades have witnessed large migration flows from rural to urban China. This chapter explores the potential of social network analysis (SNA) for assessing and understanding social integration in contemporary Chinese cities. We begin by presenting the background and the complex, multi-dimensional and inter-connected factors that typically affect segregation and inequality within urban China. SNA is introduced as a potential analytical approach for characterising and examining the ongoing dynamic social integration process. We discuss some initial findings based upon an exploratory case study in Shanghai on multi-dimensional segregation in the social care sector. We also identify the limitations of SNA as a relatively innovative method for researching social integration and call for a mixed-methods approach towards its application in examining the intricacy and complexity of social integration in contemporary urban China.


We present a case study of an interpretation and application of the measures in the Social Network Analysis (SNA) to comprehend the implementation architecture of a software system. The architectural structure derived from the dependencies of programming elements is considered a social network. Then, the SNA measures such as degree distribution, centrality, clustering, community, and ego network are applied to the software network. The Gephi tool has been used to collect the values of those SNA measures and also for visualization. The values obtained for those measures were interpreted in the terms of potential application area of the software engineering. The interpretation of SNA measures from the case study reveals that it is useful for the developers to enhance their comprehension about the organization of program elements and source.

A governance networks literature that uses social network analysis has emerged, but research tends to be more technical than conceptual. This restricts its accessibility and usefulness for non-quantitative scholars and practitioners alike. Furthermore, the literature has not adequately appreciated the importance of informal networking for the effective operation of governance networks. This can hinder inter-disciplinary analysis. Through a critical review, this article identifies four areas of challenge for the governance networks literature and offers four corresponding, complementary sets of concepts from the social network analysis field: (a) the difference between policy networks and governance networks, (b) the role and status of people in governance networks, (c) the ‘dark side’ of networks and the role of power differentials within them and (d) network evaluation and the question of ‘what works’ in network management. The article argues that a less technical, more accessible account of social network analysis offers an additional lens through which to view governance networks.
