Irisin is a new myokine that is suspected to influence metabolic syndrome (MetS). However, there is a great controversy with respect to its level in cases of MetS and its correlation with different metabolic parameters. The present study assesses irisin levels in MetS patients and studies its relationship to metabolic and liver functions to evaluate the possible role of the liver in regulation of this level. Sixty subjects were included in this experiment, who were divided into 3 groups: group I (normal control), group II (MetS patients with normal liver enzymes), and group III (MetS with elevated liver enzymes and fatty liver disease). Serum irisin levels showed significant increases in groups II and III compared with group I, and significant increases in group III compared with group II. Also, irisin levels were positively correlated with body mass index, serum triglycerides, homeostatic model assessment of insulin resistance index (HOMA-IR), and liver enzymes. We concluded that serum irisin levels increased in patients with MetS, especially those with elevated liver enzymes, and had a positive correlation with parameters of lipid metabolism and glucose homeostasis with the possibility of hepatic clearance to irisin.

Background: Dysplipidemia is a lipid metabolism dysfunctionsuch as the incline and the decline of blood lipid profile. The main abnormallipid fractionlevel are the increase of total cholesterol level, LDL level, and triglyceride and the decline of HDL level. The high level of blood lipid can cause atherosclerosis with the atheroma in arterial intima that contains cholesterol, lipoid, and lipophage. The advance stage of atherosclerosis can cause complications to target organs such as heart and brain. Objectives: This research aimed to evaluate the effects of herbapurganto (PiciaPicriaFelTerraeLour) ethanol extract on Lipid Profile of Dyspilidemic Male Rat(the decline of total cholesterol level, triglyceride level, LDL level, and the increase of HDL level) and also the atherosclerosis process. Research method: This research was conducted to 30male ratswhich dividedinto 6 groups. Group 1was served as the normal control, Group 2was servedas negative controls which were given 10 ml/kg bb Na-CMC , Group 3 was served as positive controls which were given 2 mg/kg bb of atorvastatin dosage, Group 4, 5, and 6 were served as the treatment group, and administered with EEHP at the dose of 75, 150, and 300 mg/kb bb . The test animals were fedwith high fatdiet using quail yolk, used cooking oil, and cow fat mixture for 14 days consecutively to obtain dyslipidemia subjects and continued with 14 consecutively treatment. The measure of lipid profile was conducted in the 28th day. Finding: The statistical analysis results indicated that EEHP could decrease the total of cholesterol level, triglyceride level, LDL level, and also it could increase the HDL level (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Based on the results, it could be concluded that EEHP haseffect towards dyslipidemia rat(the decline of total cholesterol level, triglyceride level, LDL level, and the increase of HDL level) and it could also prevent atherosclerosis.

Background: Evidence shows that high density lipoproteins (HDLs) may exert multiple anti-atherogenic and anti-thrombotic effects that together decrease the risk of cardiovascular morbidity in hyperlipidaemic state. Experimental studies showed that fresh wheatgrass (Triticum aestivum Linn.) juice exerts lipid lowering effect as well as increases HDL-cholesterol level in rats. Objective: The present study was done to observe the effect of wheatgrass juice on serum HDL-cholesterol on experimentally induced dyslipidaemic rats evident by reduced HDL-cholesterol level. Materials and method: This experimental study was carried out in the Department of Pharmacology & Therapeutics, Dhaka Medical College, Dhaka, from July 2009 to June 2010. A total number of 48 healthy adult male Long Evans rats, age ranging from 2-3 months, and weighing from 140-200 grams were used for the present study. Six rats were taken in each group of total 8 groups treated differently with 1 control group. Rats of the first 5 groups were sacrificed at 29th day and their lipid profile was measured. Rests of the rats were sacrificed at 57th day and their lipid profile was measured. Results: Mean HDL-cholesterol of the group of rats treated with 10 mL/kg grass juice and 1% cholesterol diet, with 10 mL/kg grass juice and with 20 mL/kg grass juice were significantly increased (P<0.05, P<0.05, P<0.01 respectively). The mean HDL-cholesterol of the group treated with Atorvastatin for 28 days were also significantly increased (P<0.001).Conclusion: The present experiment showed that HDL-cholesterol level is increased by ingestion of wheat grass juice in experimental animals. Therefore, it provides the initial step for demonstrating cardio-protective effect of wheatgrass juice by increasing HDL-cholesterol level in blood in dyslipidaemic state. Abstract Introduction: Varicocele is the predominant cause of male infertility and was found in 19% - 41% of men with primary infertility and 45% - 81% of men with secondary infertility. Human adipose Derived Stem Cells (hADSC) can suppress oxidative stress in some oxidative injury model. Therefore, this study would like to investigate the effect of intratesticular hADSC injection on MDA level and spermatogenesis process by histopathological examination in the varicocele rat model.Method: This is an experimental study. A total sampling of 9 male Wistar rats were divided into three groups. Group I consist of 1 Wistar rats without any treatment or model (sham group), group II consist of 4 Wistar rats with varicocele model without hADSC therapy (control group), and group III consist of 4 Wistar rats with varicocele model and were given injections of 1.0x106 hADSC cells intratesticularly 30 days after model was made (therapy group). Testicular tissue was harvested for evaluation. Results: In all varicocele model rats (group II and III), the result of MDA level in therapy group (2.53 mol/liter) was significantly lower than the MDA level in control group (4.43 mol/liter) (p = 0.01). On histopathological examination, the average Johnson's Score in the therapy and control group was 9,77 and 9,18, respectively. The analysis showed Johnson’s score in the intervention group was significantly higher (p = 0.018). Conclusion: Intratesticular injection of hADSC can help reduce MDA levels and improve spermatogenesis process, which is damaged by varicoceles.

The aim of the present study is to assess the impact of screening programme for the patients visiting community pharmacies and factors influencing the prescribing pattern of antihypertensive and/ or antihyperlipidemic agents. The study was designed as a prospective cohort study conducted between December 2017 and November 2019. Data were collected from the hypertensive patients visiting regularly in the 5 selected community pharmacies located at 5 Taluks of Erode district, Tamil Nadu, India. The required data were collected either from the patient’s record or interview. Data were collected from 946 (75.68%) patients of 1250 patients visited the selected community pharmacies.49.4% and 50.6% of patients were randomly allotted to the control (group I) and intervention (group II) groups respectively. In this study 50.56% and 46.67% of males were in group I and II respectively. Average SBP was measured as 151.5 ± 11.8 mmHg and 168.1 ± 13.6 mmHg for the patients in group I and II respectively whereas 92.9 ± 9.3 mmHg and 92.6 ± 9.5 mmHg were the DBP readings among the patients in group I and II respectively. Average total cholesterol was measured as 253.66 ± 33.67 mg/dL and 271.04 ± 39.91 mg/dL for the patients in group I and II respectively. The difference in the prevalence is 0.7 and 2.05 for the antihypertensive and antihyperlipidemic agents respectively whereas the incidence was observed as 4.75 and 2.5 for the antihypertensive and antihyperlipidemic agents respectively. The odds ratio of SBP and DBP is 1.12 and 0.99 respectively in the group II. The values of multivariate analysis showed that there is an agreement between intervention and utilization pattern of antihypertensive and antihyperlipidemic agents. It is to conclude that the preliminary screening of blood pressure and lipid profile showed many patients were not visiting regularly for consultations. The screening programme has resulted in good improvement in the utilization pattern of antihypertensive and antihyperlipidemic agents. The age, lipid levels and comorbid conditions were main factors among the individuals which have determined the prescribing pattern of agents.

BACKGROUND: Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) is used in the treatment of malaria and rheumatoid arthritis for a long time. Its effects on inflammation and immune modulation were noted. AIM: This study aims to investigate the effects of HCQ in fructose-induced metabolic syndrome and to explore its possible mechanisms. METHODS AND MATERIALS: Sixty male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into Group I (negative control), Group II fed on high-fructose diet, and Group III fed on high fructose and subdivided into Group III-a (HCQ 50 mg/kg), Group III-b (HCQ 100 mg/kg), Group III-c (HCQ 200 mg/kg), and Group III-d (metformin 100 mg/kg). Body weight, blood glucose, liver enzymes, and lipid profile were measured. Insulin level, homeostatic model assessment (HOMA), soluble-intercellular adhesion molecule, and vascular cell adhesion molecule were assayed. Tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, adipokines (leptin, resistin, and adiponectin), and histological examination of pancreas were assessed. RESULTS: HCQ induces good effects on lipid profile and improves significantly HOMA, endothelial stress markers, and adiponectin, and reduces leptin and TNF-α levels. In addition, significant improvement in structural changes was noted in pancreas with different doses of HCQ. CONCLUSION: Favorable effects of HCQ in fructose-induced metabolic syndrome are promising and can be used early in those at risk of diabetes.
