Background: Acne is a chronic disorder that affects almost 80% of adolescents and young adults, causing psychological and emotional distress. However, the current treatments for acne are either ineffective or have many side effects. This study was designed to confirm and objectively quantify the effect of a new non-drug combined therapy on acne. Methods: This study innovatively utilized ultrasound, which enhanced the absorption of aloe vera gel, and soft mask to make a purely physical method without any drugs. In both the treatment group and control group, the number of papules/pustules and the area of hyperpigmented lesions were counted, and a smart mirror intelligent face system was used before and after the combined therapy. Alterations in the skin functional index were recorded and analyzed statistically. Results: In the treatment group, the combined therapy significantly reduced the number of papules and the area of hyperpigmented lesions and improved skin roughness and local blood circulation. In the control group, there was no obvious improvement over 2 months. Conclusion: This study suggests that the new non-drug combined therapy significantly improved acne, which provided experimental evidence and treatment guidance for patients with mild to severe acne, especially patients with moderate acne. This new therapy may possibly be an appropriate method for patients who seek topical treatments with mild side effects and low antibiotic resistance rates.

Dysmenorrhea is one of discomfort experienced by adolescent during menstruation. A Survey of 10 young women at University of Muhammadiyah Lamongan found 90% had dysmenorrhea. To reduce pain, they take pain relievers. However, the use of drugs can cause side effects, especially if long-term use can lead to addiction or dependence. Research design using Quasy Eksperiment (pretest-posttest). The study was conducted on adolescents who are experiencing dysmenorrhea. They were divided into two groups namely control and treament groups. The study began by assessing pain levels in both groups. The treatment group was given warm compresses but the control group was not given any treatment, after that reassess the level of pain. The study analyzes changes in pain levels and compares pain change in the two groups. The results showed that in the control group most of the adolescents did not experience pain changes during dysmenorrhea (86.7%), whereas in the treatment group most of the adolescents experienced a decrease in pain (93.3%). Data analysis using the Mann Whitney test showed p=0.000 where p0.05 so it can be concluded that there are differences in dysmenorrhea before and after treatment between the warm compress group and the control group. The results of this study are expected to be used as consideration in developing plans to reduce discomfort in the form of menstrual pain in a non-pharmacological manner.

Smoking is one of the habits that can affect human health. One type of cigarette that is currently the choice is electric cigarettes. The e-cigarette content includes nicotine, propylene glycol, flavorings and glycerin. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of exposure to e-cigarette smoke on mice strain balb / c with the parameters of the number of spermatozoa. This study used 15 male mice which were 8-10 weeks old and weighed 25-30 grams of male mice which were divided into 3 treatment groups namely control group, treatment group one and treatment group two. In the control group no exposure to cigarette smoke was carried out while in the treatment group one was exposed to cigarette smoke in mice with a dose of 0 mg nicotine and the second treatment group was exposed to e-cigarette smoke at a dose of 18 mg nicotine. Electric cigarette smoke exposure is carried out for 30 days using a suction device from a syringe. The exposure of cigarette smoke is carried out every day with successive doses of 20 times as much as 3 times with a time lag of 10 minutes (5 minutes the chamber is closed and 5 minutes of the chamber is opened). The results showed that the average number of spermatozoa in the control group was 16.816 million / ml. The average number of spermatozoa in treatment one was 10.432 million / ml and the average number of spermatozoa in treatment two was 5.234 million / ml. This shows that exposure to cigarette smoke can reduce the number of spermatozoa from the control group to the first treatment by 42.56% and the second treatment shows a decrease from the first group by 34.65%.

Background. This study aimed to explore the mechanisms of action of the PSORI-CM01 and Yinxieling formulas in the treatment of patients with psoriasis vulgaris by analyzing gene expression in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs). Methods. PBMC samples were collected from 21 patients before and after treatment. The study included nine patients in the PSORI-CM01 treatment group, 12 patients in the Yinxieling treatment group, and nine patients in the healthy control group. Gene expression levels in PBMCs were determined using the Affymetrix gene chip technology. Results. In the PSORI-CM01 group before and after treatment, a total of 668 differentially expressed genes were found, of which 445 were upregulated and 223 were downregulated. Before and after Yinxieling treatment, 657 differentially expressed genes were found, of which 168 were upregulated and 489 were downregulated. Venn analysis showed that 78 genes were not differentially expressed in the PSORI-CM01 group and 74 were not differentially expressed in the Yinxieling group compared with those in the controls. Among these genes, 72 genes were common to both groups, which were the genes on which the two drugs acted jointly. The results of KEGG analysis and Venn analysis on the signalling pathways of drug action in treatment groups showed that haemostasis and pathways involving Rho GTPases were common signalling pathways of drug action in the two groups. Conclusions. By a comparative analysis of the treatment groups, we found that both drugs have a positive effect on patients with psoriasis vulgaris, primarily by regulating the pathways related to platelet activation, aggregation, and blood coagulation. We studied the effect of auricular acupuncture on postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV). One hundred female patients undergoing transabdominal hysterectomy were entered into the study. The patients were divided into two groups (auricular acupuncture treatment group and non-treatment group) in order to test the effectiveness of auricular acupuncture. There was no significant difference in age, weight, height or duration of anesthesia among the two groups of patients. There was a significant difference between the control and auricular acupuncture treatment groups in the incidence of vomiting 12 hours after surgery (68% and 30%, respectively, p < 0.01). No noteworthy side effects from treatment were observed. Auricular acupuncture is effective in reducing vomiting following transabdominal hysterectomy in female patients.

This paper deals with the problem of finding the optimal treatment for acute maxillary sinusitis. Only sinuses with secretion were included. Comparison between the different modes of treatment was made by the aid of a radiological gradation of the sinus changes. Each treatment group consisted of 50 patients whose sinuses were radiologically investigated on day 1, 5, 10 and 15. Treatment was given for 10 days. Irrigation was performed every second day until the lavage content was clear. Side effects were investigated. All groups were statistically similar initially. There was no statistical difference between the four treatment groups with regard to healing after 5, 10 and 15 days of treatment. Few side effects were noted on doxycycline but some on spiramycin. Both antibiotics thus afford the advantage of omitting irrigation from the treatment.

Abstract Objective: Hyperbilirubinemia after cardiac surgery increases in-hospital mortality and is associated with poor prognosis. Our present study aimed to compare the efficacy of bilirubin adsorption (BA) and plasma exchange (PEX) in patients with hyperbilirubinemia after cardiac surgery. Methods: We retrospectively included patients who underwent BA treatment or PEX treatment due to severe hyperbilirubinemia after cardiac surgery in our center from 2015 to 2020. We collected examinations of urine and liver function before and after treatment and compared the in-hospital mortality and morbidity between two treatment groups. Results: A total of 56 patients were enrolled in this study, 14 patients received BA treatment and 42 patients received PEX treatment. BA group provided a statistically significant reduction in the TBil (p=0.016) and DBil (p=0.036) compared to PEX group. The in-hospital mortality was 85.7% (48/56) in the whole group, BA group had lower mortality than PEX group (71.4% vs. 90.5%, p=0.078). BA group showed better circulatory support, including lower risks of IABP (21.4% vs. 52.4%, p=0.044), ECMO (21.4% vs. 50.0%, p=0.061), re-intubation (64.3% vs. 40.5%, p=0.122) and ventricular arrhythmias (64.3% vs. 45.2%, p=0.217). The in-hospital mortality was still lower in BA treatment group than PEX treatment group (71.4% vs. 100%, p=0.049) in matched cohort. Conclusions: BA treatment had higher removal ability of bilirubin in patients with hyperbilirubinemia and could reduce the mortality and risks of poor clinical outcomes compared to PEX treatment. BA treatment should be considered as an effective treatment method for patients with higher TBil level or Dbil level.

Background: The efficacy and safety of Pregabalin and Nortriptyline have been proved individually in low backache with radicular pain. However, there are limited number of studies comparing the efficacy of Pregabalin and Nortriptyline in Chronic Low Backache (CLBA) with radicular pain. Hence the present study was designed to determine the efficacy as well as tolerability of Pregabalin in comparison with that of Nortriptyline for reduction of pain in CLBA. The present study was an open label prospective observational study. Methods: Patients with CLBA, 15-60 years of age without specific cause and significant neurological deficit were included in the study. Severity of pain was assessed by Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). Patients were followed up at 2 and 4 weeks and their VAS scores and side effects were noted. Results: Both Pregabalin and Nortriptyline were effective in reducing pain, from baseline to 2 weeks and up to 4 weeks of treatment in chronic low backache with radicular pain, but there was no statistically significant difference between the two treatment groups. The incidences of side effects were less in the Nortriptyline treatment group as compared to Pregabalin. Conclusions: From the results of the present study it can be concluded that both Pregabalin and Nortriptyline were equally effective in the treatment of chronic low backache with radicular pain, but the incidence of adverse effects were more with Pregabalin as compared to Nortriptyline.
