Abstract: We are not going to analyze the words of the narcocorridos, but to study the social use and function that the Mexican Internet users do with the sites dedicated to the narcocorridos on YouTube as spaces that permit to detonate and liberate aggressiveness. The purpose of this paper is to examine the violence of their comments. It is clear that this violence/aggressiveness is not directly produced by the songs, but that these songs placed in a space of free expression on the internet are causing a social catharsis which reveals a great human misery: feelings of inferiority, loneliness and social anger which expresses themselves through a pseudonationalism and a machismo exacerbated by the idealization and the upper-valuation of their native regions, by homophobia (used as insult) and the glorification of the traffickers. Analysis of the comments sent to YouTube on narcocorridos videos shows the revival and resurgence of old evils, now free of guilt (here the politically correct does not exist), such as racism and neo-feudal loyalty to the drug lords and their territories. Face to these comments, one may ask the question whether Mexico as a built-nation still exists in the imaginary political Mexican world, or if whether it has moved backwards to a sum of territories at the drug cartels service. Virtual violence expressed in these hate-speeches is the result of other violence rooted in the social marginalization: it is the vicious circle of contempt where the self esteem must pass by the humiliation of the other (even when companion of the same misfortune), instead of turning against a system that marginalized them.Résumé : Il ne s’agit pas ici d’analyser les paroles des chansons, mais d’étudier l’usage et la fonction sociale que font les internautes mexicains des sites consacrés aux narcocorridos sur YouTube comme espaces détonateurs et libérateurs d’agressivité.

SummaryMood disorders are characterized by manic and depressive episodes alternating with normal mood. While social function is heavily impaired during episodes of illness, there are conflicting opinions about inter-episode function. The present paper focuses on self-esteem and social adjustment in remitted mood disorders patients.Patients with mood disorders (99 bipolar and 86 major depressive subjects, in remission) were compared with a group of 100 control subjects. The self-esteem scale (SES) and the social adjustment scale (SAS) were used to measure self-esteem and social adjustment, respectively, in both groups of subjects.Patients with mood disorder exhibited worse social adjustment and lower self-esteem than control subjects. These results strongly confirm previous observations of poor inter-episode function in patients with mood disorder.

Quantitative evaluation of horticulture vocational-therapy programs is becoming more and more critical as professionals in the area of people-plant interactions try to document the value of their programs. Evaluation tools to assess self-development of individuals studying such factors as self-esteem, life satisfaction, and locus of control have long been used in the social science disciplines. Many of these tools, either in their original forms or with some adaptations, can be successfully used to measure changes in self-development of individuals participating in horticulture programs.

<p>Adolescents consistently compare themselves with others they see on social media. This habit can bring up in them a sense of envy or inferiority, which then can lead to a decrease in self-esteem. Therefore, it is necessary to have aspects that can increase their confidence and optimism, including in term of spirituality, their sense of gratitude. The purpose of this study was to see the role of gratitude as moderating variable in the influence of social comparison on the self-esteem of social media adolescent users. The research was conducted using social comparison scale of Iowa-Netherlands Comparison Orientation Scale (INCOM), gratitude scale, and self-esteem state scale, which were distributed to 200 social media adolescent users in DKI Jakarta, were involved through incidental sampling. The results of data analysis showed that there was a significant role of gratitude in influencing social comparison to change these participants’ self-esteem. The sense of gratitude served to increase these adolescents’ self-esteem, which previously decreased as a result of social comparison. This study had a number of weaknesses in the use of the instruments, especially the social comparison scale. Any similar study in the future is expected to focus more on one kind of social media.</p>

Abstract The present study aimed to find out the role of self-esteem and social support on emotional behavioral problems among the adolescents. The sample consisted of adolescents (N=300) comprising of 150 boys and 150 girls selected through purposive and convenience sampling techniques from different schools of Islamabad. All the research instruments demonstrate significant internal consistency (r > 70). Self-esteem and social support were found to have a significant negative correlation with emotional behavioral problems (EBP) such as increased self-esteem and social support could significantly decrease EBP among adolescents as hypothesized. Regression analysis also supported the association and demonstrated that study variables account for about 23% of variance in EBP. Findings of the study can be applied for introduction of programs to increase the self-esteem and improve the social support in order to minimize the emotional behavioral problems among the adolescents.

Self-esteem in practitioners of adventure sports.BACKGROUND: In view of the current rise of adventure sports and the various psychological parameters related to these practices, it is necessary to study how these sports, and their inherent risk, are capable of awakening different sensations and how this could affect the self-esteem of its practitioners. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to evaluate the self-esteem indices in rafting, kayak, mountaineering and skydiving practitioners, evaluating the indexes, and analysing the correlations between the groups. METHODS: For this, the profiles of 73 practitioners of adventure sports (rafting, kayak, mountaineering and skydiving) were analyzed using as an instrument the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, in the version adapted by Hutz. The statistical test adopted was the Kruskal-Wallis, the normality of the data was tested using the Shapiro Wilk test, and all analyzes were performed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences program.RESULTS: It was possible to verify the high self-esteem indices in all evaluated groups, especially skydivers, suggesting that adventure sports are capable of influencing the psychological well-being and mental health of their practitioners. CONCLUSION: With these data, we can conclude that this study raises the question of psychological well-being through the practice of adventure sports, contributing to a better self-esteem and understanding of the aspects related to this portion of the population, which is still little studied.

Chapter 1, “Origins of the Self-Esteem Imaginary,” traces the social imaginary of childrearing and self-esteem to its origins in the writings of William James and other nineteenth-century visionaries. This is the first of two chapters that sketch the intellectual history of self-esteem and its intersection with progressive childrearing. Although psychologists “invented” self-esteem, propounded a host of theories, and conducted the first major study of children’s self-esteem, bestselling novelists and authors of popular childrearing manuals played an important role in spreading these ideas to the reading public in the mid-twentieth century. At the same time, children’s self-esteem became a critical piece of evidence in the landmark Brown v. Board of Education decision that dismantled the legal basis for racial segregation. Countering assaults to self-esteem became part of the discourse of the social justice movements of the 1960s and 1970s.
