BACKGROUND The health behaviors of young adults lag behind those of other age groups, and active health management is needed to improve health behaviors and prevent chronic diseases. In addition, developing good lifestyle habits earlier in life could reduce the risk of metabolic syndrome (MetS) later on. OBJECTIVE The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of the e-Motivate4Change program, for which health apps and wearable devices were selected based on user needs. The program was developed for the prevention and management of MetS in young adults. METHODS This experimental study used a nonequivalent control group. In total, 59 students from 2 universities in Daegu, Korea participated in the study (experimental group n=30; control group n=29). Data were collected over 4 months, from June 1 to September 30, 2018. The experimental group received a 12-week e-Motivate4Change program intervention, and the control group received MetS education and booklets without the e-Motivate4Change program intervention. RESULTS After the program, the experimental group had significantly higher scores for health-related lifestyle (<i>t</i>=3.86; <i>P</i>&lt;.001) and self-efficacy (<i>t</i>=6.00; <i>P</i>&lt;.001) than did the control group. Concerning BMI, there were significant effects by group (<i>F</i>=1.01; <i>P</i>&lt;.001) and for the group × time interaction (<i>F</i>=4.71; <i>P</i>=.034). Concerning cholesterol, there were significant main effects for group (<i>F</i>=4.32; <i>P</i>=.042) and time (<i>F</i>=9.73; <i>P</i>&lt;.001). CONCLUSIONS The e-Motivate4Change program effectively improved participants’ health-related lifestyle scores and self-efficacy, and significantly reduced their BMI and cholesterol levels. The program can be used to identify and prevent MetS among young adults.

Early childhood is a formative period during which healthy habits are developed, including proper hand hygiene practices. The aim of this quasi-experimental study was to determine the effectiveness of a 4-week series of educational sessions that consider the cognitive developmental stage of children on increasing their knowledge and promoting hand hygiene practices. The intervention group (n = 33) observed the hand hygiene program, whereas another group served as the waitlist control (n = 20). Creative activities were planned for the illustration of hand hygiene concepts in terms of “right moments”, “right steps”, and “right duration”. Hand sanitizer coverage was evaluated using a hand scanner. After the intervention, the experimental group had higher knowledge level toward hand hygiene than the control group (p < 0.001). Significant improvements in hand hygiene performance at the left palm and dorsum (p < 0.05), right palm (p < 0.05), and overall hand coverage (p < 0.05) were observed in the experimental group. The study demonstrated that the knowledge and proper hand hygiene (HH) practice of children can be positively influenced by the use of an age-appropriate education program. The results of this study have implications for school health educators and parents for promoting HH practices among children at home and at the school level.

This is an experimental study in the area of Didactics applied to the learning of English as a foreign language and complemented by CALL. The main objective of this work is to know the degree of incidence existing between two groups of students: one, based on conference-style classes where students, guided by the teacher, have to search for information about a topic in the computer lab and present it in front of the class and, in the other, where students are taught by the teacher according to a printed text. The experimental design consisted of a pre-test/post-test plus the application of different techniques to develop the different linguistic and cognitive strategies, between these tests. The methodology used by the Experimental Group forced learners to generate their own knowledge, so they had to apply the information and work by themselves in Workshops; and the Control Group participated in the classroom according to the communicative approach, guided by the teacher in the traditional class. Statistics were applied to the scores obtained between both tests, and the scores obtained weekly in the different competences contributed to knowing whether there were significant differences between both groups.

The purpose of this study is to develop and apply a type of perineal underwear that protects the patient’s physical privacy and to examine its effects on perineal discomfort and shame. This study collected primary data from 44 patients who visited Kyung Hee University hospital in Seoul city and were admitted to the neurosurgery ward to undergo angiography between 7 August 2017, and 30 April 2018. In this quasi-experimental study with a nonequivalent control group posttest-only design, participants were divided into an experimental group (n = 22) and a control group (n = 22). The control group used conventional protection, which involved wearing padding around the perineum, while the experimental group wore the perineal underwear developed in this study. The underwear group showed a significantly lower degree of shame (Z = −5.39, p < 0.001) and perineal discomfort (Z = −5.88, p < 0.001) than the padding group. In the padding group, women felt significantly more shame than men did (Z = −2.48, p = 0.013). The use of the perineal underwear developed in this study significantly reduced the degree of shame and perineal discomfort in patients undergoing angiography. Such perineal underwear could also be useful for protecting patients’ privacy during perineal examinations.

Objective: To evaluate the effect of therapeutic exercises on pregnancy related low back pain in a tertiary care hospital of Karachi. Material & Methods: This was a quasi-experimental study with non-probability convenience sampling technique. Study was carried out at Liaquat National Hospital Karachi. Patients were divided into two groups (Experimental and Control). Inclusion criteria were age <30 years, 2nd and 3rd trimester, stable medical status and those who gave the informed consent. Exclusion were pregnancy induced hypertension (>140/90mmHg), Cardiac disease, diabetes mellitus, persistent vaginal bleeding, history of miscarriages, decreased foetal movement. Data was collected through assessment Modified Oswestry Low back pain disability questionnaire. SPSS version 23.0 was used to analyze the data. Results: A total of 30 samples were selected for the study. There were 15 respondents in experimental while 15 in control group. Disability levels were found to be significantly decreased after post treatment in experimental group with P-value= 0.002. It was seen that number of patients was increased from 1(6.7%) to 6(40%) in minimal disability group whereas crippled back pain group in pre-treatment group was totally shifted towards minimal or moderate pain 3(20.0%) and no case was seen in post-treatment. Conclusion: Low back pain in pregnancy can disturb daily life routine but exercise therapy and proper counselling will lead stress free life to female in gestation. After post treatment in experimental group showed decrease in pain as compare to control group who were not provided any exercise therapy. Working women in experimental group also showed decrease by crippled back pain to moderate pain after exercise. So in the end researcher suggest that physiotherapy exercises play a vital role in reducing Low Back Pelvic Pain (LBPP) during pregnancy.

This research is aimed to find out the effect of definitions toward students’ vocabulary mastery: it was an experimental study at the second grade student of MTs NW Haqqul Yaqin Sayang- sayang. The subject of this research was the second grade of MTs NW Haqqul Yaqin Sayang- sayang.The research was used experimental method with quantitative approach. The population of this research consist of 55 students, and the sample is 29 for experimental group while 26 for control group. The technique of collecting data was used definition for experimental group and matching word with antonym for control group. The data was collected by using post-test only and the data was analyzed by t-test formula. Based on data analysis the mean score of experimental group was 76,4 and control group was 69,23, beside of that standard deviation for experimental group was 114,28 and for control group was 113,09 and the value of t-test was 2,44 and t-table was 2,000. Degree of freedom is 53 with significant level 0,05. It means that the value of t-test was higher than t-table (t-test ˃ t-table). The alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. Thus, the conclusion of this research was there was an effect of definition toward students’ vocabulary mastery: an experimental study at the second grade students of MTs NW Haqqul Yaqin Sayang-sayang.

Given the medicinal importance of the avocado plant in alternative medicine,the present study aimed to study the effect of the phytochemical content of P. americana leaf extract on the hematological system of albino rats. Albino rats were obtained andclustered into sixgroups,with five rats per groupsimultaneously were assigned experimental and control. The rats in the experimental group were administered with varying doses of the prepared aqueous extract of P. americanawithin the period of the study. The rats in the control group were administered with other substances such as water and feed for the study period.The hematological system of the experimental animal was assessed after the administration of the extract, and it was observed that the aqueous extract of P. americana leaf recorded no significant adverse effect on the hematology system of the experimental study animal.

Abstract Objectives The present study aimed to explore the effect of water-based rhythmic exercise training on fasting blood sugar (FBS), homeostatic model assessment (HOMA), insulin, thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), and T4 in postmenopausal women with metabolic syndrome. Methods In this clinical trial, 31 postmenopausal woman with metabolic syndrome aged 69.16 ± 2.02 years were randomly assigned to an experimental (n=16) and a control group (n=15). The training program was composed of 12 weeks of water-based rhythmic exercise training performed intermittently for 60 min three times a week. Before and after training, blood was analyzed for glucose homeostasis, T4, and TSH. Data were subjected to analysis by paired t-test and covariance analysis at the p<0.05 level. Results The exercise training intervention reduced the FBS and insulin significantly (p=0.000). The growth hormone (GH) index was increased significantly only in the experimental group (p=0.037) whereas no significant variations occurred in the insulin-like growth factor-1 (p=0.712). It was also found that TSH and T4 change in the experimental group as compared to the pre-test. Conclusions Water-based rhythmic exercise training may improve blood glucose homeostasis, TSH, and T4.

ABSTRACT Objective:  To evaluate the psychosocial impact of the first 6 months of orthodontic treatment with a fixed appliance among young adults and compare the results with those of a control group of patients awaiting treatment for malocclusion. Materials and Methods:  A study was conducted with a sample of 120 patients on a waiting list for orthodontic treatment at a university. The participants were allocated to an experimental group submitted to treatment and a control group awaiting treatment. The groups were matched for sex and age. All participants were instructed to answer the Brazilian version of the Psychosocial Impact of Dental Aesthetics Questionnaire (PIDAQ) at baseline and after 6 months. Statistical analysis involved the Wilcoxon test for the total PIDAQ score and the score of each subscale. All patients participated until the end of the study. Results:  Significant differences between baseline and the 6-month evaluation were found for the total PIDAQ score as well as the dental self-confidence and social impact subscales in both groups. No differences between baseline and the 6-month evaluation were found regarding the psychological impact or esthetic concern subscales in the control group. The patients in the experimental group reported greater esthetic impact 6 months after beginning treatment (P &lt; .001). The first 6 months of orthodontic treatment seem to improve psychosocial impact. Conclusion:  The first 6 months of orthodontic treatment seem to improve the psychosocial impact of malocclusion. The patients analyzed in the present study reported a greater esthetic impact and less psychological impact after 6 months of using an orthodontic appliance.

<p>The peer who teaches to their mates is peer tutoring. It is a common instructional strategy used in classrooms. The aim of this study is know whether there is any improvement in achievement marks of tutors and tutees after the process of peer tutoring. Class VIII students were selected as sample for the present experimental study. The design of this experimental study was a two group parallel design such as one control and one experimental group with pre-test and post-test. Tutors of experimental group were trained to act as tutor for this research purpose. Pre-test and post-test marks of both control and experimental group were analyzed by using ‘t’ test. The result revealed that, the experimental group students (both tutors and tutees) exhibited a remarkable improvement in learning who received the content through peer tutoring than the control group students who were taught by the researcher through traditional way of teaching.</p>
