BACKGROUND New technologies create possible new ways of action, interaction, and learning which is extremely relevant in the field of oral health education. There is a lack of protocol in using an immersive interactive ludic-educational interface to motivate oral hygiene practice in children by means of augmented reality. OBJECTIVE This study aims to present a protocol on the development of a serious game to motivate oral hygiene practice in children. METHODS A serious game will be designed by augmented reality techniques to improve toothbrushing effectiveness of children aged 6 to 10 years. The functional structure of this interface is activated by means of movements recognized by Kinect (Microsoft Corp). The toothbrushing technique will be available in the game, enabling the children to execute the movement in the virtual environment. By identifying errors, this game will be tailored to improve the oral health of children by correcting the technique and teaching the user the adequate toothbrushing method. A template analysis will be performed to identify barriers and facilitators in each scenario. RESULTS After the implementation of the virtual interactive and immersive panels, enrollment will begin and evaluations will be made by means of questionnaires distributed to participants who interact with the game. Thus, an analysis of the product efficacy will be conducted. The expected outcome will be to obtain a digital instrument to motivate oral hygiene practice and enhance health awareness in children. Primary school is a very strategic place for the prevention of dental and oral diseases. Delivering counseling material in learning oral health requires media. One of the media in dental and oral health education is through counseling using audio media. This audio media contains messages about dental health that are played at school every morning and can be exposed and heard every day so elementary school children can behave well in dental health. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of audio media outreach programs to the knowledge and level of dental and mouth hygiene of students at State Primary School 26 Kalimas Tengah, Kubu Raya Regency in 2019. This study was a quasi-experimental study with a Pre-Post observation research design. The samples of this study were 68 people which were class III, IV and V. The results showed the average rank of knowledge index before counseling with audio media was 8.928 and p was 0.020 (p<0.05) with index of dental and oral hygiene level was 0,00 and p of 0,000 (p<0.05). Meanwhile, after counseling with audio media was 9,500 and p of 0.020 (p<0.05) with a level of dental and oral hygiene of 35.00 and p of 0,000 (p<0,05). The conclusion of this study is counseling with audio media is more effective in increasing knowledge which can improve oral and dental hygiene

The WHO 2010 reported connection between oral wellbeing and general wellbeing, with common risk factors including poor diet, tobacco use and alcohol consumption. People who suffer from general health problems (diabetes, HIV) are more likelihood to have oral diseases (periodontal diseases) that, in turn, further complicate their overall health.Thus, oral health is an integral part of general wellbeing . One of the many barriers to quality oral healthcare includes a lack of attention to oral health by non-dental health care professionals (e.g., nurses, pharmacists). Nurses, being the primary health care provider to the patients, play an important role in health sector. Aside from dental professional, nurses are an integral part in health promotion and preventive information dissemination, therefore it is important that oral health knowledge should be good to decrease poor oral health outcomes. The aim of this study was to assess oral health knowledge, attitude and oral hygiene practices among nursing student of Apollo School of Nursing , Mizoram.A Questionnaire study was conducted among 150 students of Apollo School of Nursing Mizoram. A self administered structured questionnaire containing oral hygiene knowledge and awareness, attitude and oral hygiene practices questions was distributed . Their response were analyzed and their knowledge and awareness, attitude and oral hygiene practice level(KAP) were evaluated. Statistical Analysis was done by calculating the mean of the KAP level (%) . The present study showed good oral hygiene practices and fair knowledge of oral health among nursing students of Apollo School of Nursing Mizoram

Introduction: Good oral hygiene provides a basis for good oral health and is important for prevention and treatment of oral conditions in children. Hence, it is essential to provide knowledge and treatment at regular intervals to the visually impaired individuals. Objective: To evaluate the oral hygiene practices of visually impaired students attending a blind school with the help of a questionnaire. Methods: The oral hygiene practices were evaluated in visually impaired students between the ages of 6 years to 22 years. A total of 92 students were enrolled from a blind school in Udaipur. The oral hygiene practice was assessed by a questionnaire survey. Results: About 96.7% of the students brushed their teeth daily out of which 94.3% brushed their teeth with the help of a toothbrush and toothpaste. Majority of them brushed once a day in the morning. A total of 39.1% of the students cleaned their tongue also. All the students brushed alone without any guidance or supervision. Conclusion: Although the blind students cannot see, they still practice good oral hygiene.

Background: Throughout the world, a demographic revolution is underway. The proportion of older people is growing faster than any other group. A growth spurt in the number of elderly persons has resulted from improvements in both social living conditions and medical care. This poses tremendous challenges to health and social policy planners, particularly because disease patterns will shift concurrently.Objectives: The present study was planned and carried out with the aim of assessment of the oral hygiene practice and oral health status among geriatric population.Materials & Methods: This cross sectional study was done among the geriatric population with a view to assess their oral hygiene practice and oral health status. Purposively selected 26 geriatric peoples were interviewed through a structured closed end questionnaire followed by a observational checklist.Results: In this study, it is found that most (84.6%) respondents brush their teeth regularly; more than half (57.7%) respondents brush their teeth twice; most (53.8%) of respondents brush their teeth after awake at morning, and 30.8% respondents brush 2-3 min; half of respondents use tooth brush and tooth paste. In this study, it is found that, respondents aged 70 years have Decayed Missed Filled Teeth (DMFT) (mean ± SD) 5.20 5.72, OHI (mean ± SD) 2.56 01.87. We also found that, respondents have Plaque Index (PI) (mean ± SD) 1.29 1.50, and GI (mean ± SD) 0.20 0.44.Conclusion: Oral health is one of the important components of aging; due to the presence of oral disease, it can affect general health and quality of life of elderly people.KYAMC Journal Vol. 9, No.-2, July 2018, Page 48-52

Introduction: To determine the levels of oral health knowledge of periodontal disease and its determinants among final year non-dental students of IIUM Kuantan Campus. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 284 final year non-dental students from five different kulliyyah using a validated structured questionnaire. The questionnaire consisted of items to assess participants’ demographic and socioeconomic variables, dental health education, periodontal disease knowledge, and oral hygiene practice. The relationship between levels of knowledge with the socioeconomic background, oral hygiene practice, and dental health education were analyzed using Chi-square Test and One-way ANOVA. Statistical analysis was based on probability values of less than 0.05 (p<0.05). Results: 70.4% (200/284) of the participants were female and 29.6% (84/284) were male with mean age 23.5. Limited knowledge was seen more in non-medical students than medical students significantly (p<0.05) in periodontal disease factors (43.8% vs 21.8%), relationship with systemic disease (50.5% vs 29.6%), signs (28.6% vs 11.7%), symptoms (23.8% vs 10.1%), and prevention (26.7% vs 12.3%) whereas causes (34.3% vs 32.4%) and treatment (62.9% vs 58.1%) were not significantly different (p>0.05). Therefore, medical students had higher knowledge of periodontal disease (p<0.05) than those from non-medical students (26.8% vs 16.2%). There were no relationships between knowledge levels with other determinants. Conclusions: There were significant differences in level of periodontal disease knowledge except causes and treatment between medical and non-medical students. Thus, periodontal health knowledge education promotion should be emphasized among non-medical students. Further study should be carried out to improve oral hygiene practices among students.

Oral health is recognized as equally important in relation to general health. Proper oral hygiene is the fundamental basis of the common risk factor approach to prevent the oral diseases. Dental caries is the common oral pathology that remain widely prevalent among all populations throughout the lifespan. The school years cover a period that runs from childhood to adolescence. These are influential and receptive stages in people’s lives when lifelong sustainable oral health related behaviors, as well as beliefs and attitudes, are being developed. Children may also be equipped with personal skills that enable them to make healthy decisions. So school may be considered as an ideal setting for conducing successful health programs. This study provides important information to identify the oral hygiene practices and aims to implement the oral health education package among school students. The objective of the study is to identify the status of oral hygiene practices, its associated factors, and evaluate the effectiveness of oral health education package in improving the practices on oral hygiene among the students of 6-8 grade of Bajrabarahi Municipility of Lalitpur District. The school based action research was conducted among the students of grade 6-8 of Bajrabarahi Municipality. The study was completed in three phases. The phase I was Baseline study Phase, this phase was conducted to identify the status and gaps on oral hygiene practices. Phase II was the package development phase, from the findings of the baseline study the intervention package on oral hygiene was developed. Phase III was implementation phase, in this phase the implementation and evaluation of health education package on oral hygiene practices was done. Baseline study was conducted in total 5 secondary private school of Bajrabarahi Municipality which was selected randomly and all the students of class 6-8 were selected as a study population. Quantitative technique was used for the data collection the self-administered questionnaire was employed to collect the information from the students. Cross sectional study design was applied for the baseline study. Data entry and analysis was done on SPSS 21 version Study reveals that 100% of the respondents brush their teeth daily. Only 37.6% of the student brush their teeth twice a day. Majority of the student use toothpaste and toothbrush to clean their teeth. 54% of the respondent change their toothbrush more than 6 month. Among the participants 23.9% followed the appropriate technique of brushing. 55% of the participant used to rinse their mouth after major meal and 45% rinse their mouth only after major meal. Only 20.2% of the participant used to visit dentist every 6 month. Regarding the status of oral hygiene practice more than fifty percent of the participant have below average practice on oral hygiene (55.8%). Regarding knowledge only 36.1% participants have knowledge on proper techniques of brushing. 85.2% have above or equal average knowledge on oral hygiene. The education level of the mother and perceived barrier was found significantly associated with oral hygiene practice. The second phase of the study was package development phase. In this phase package on oral hygiene was developed according to the information obtained from the baseline study. From the baseline findings the package was developed on proper technique of brushing. Package was developed by analyzing the methods media and content. The third phase of the study was to implement and evaluate of the oral health education package. Package was implemented in 2 school among those 5 school where the baseline was conducted and remain 3 school were considered as control school. From the analysis of comparison between intervention and control group the oral health education package was found to be effective in changing knowledge, belief and practice among the student in the intervention group.

Objectives: To determine the oral hygiene practices, periodontal status and bad mouth breath (BMB) among the children age between 5 to 15 years. Study participants and methods: This was a cross sectional descriptive study conducted at at four-selected primary school at Fultola and Juri Upazilla of Moulovi Bazar District. Total 250 children aged 5–15 years, were interviewed on oral hygiene practices and BMB using structured questionnaire and a checklist. Oral hygiene and periodontal status were assessed by using disposable dental explorer and a dental mirror. Results: Oral hygiene practice were; where (66.8%) non tooth brush and tooth brush users were (33.2%). The prevalence of dental caries plaque, gingival bleeding and BMB on probing was (69.6%), (91.6%), (66.8 %) and (64%) respectively. Conclusion: Bad mouth breath is a cause of concern among children associated significant factors were gum bleeding. Research involving clinical diagnosis of bad mouth breath and intervention through oral health promotion and periodontal therapy are recommended. Clinical relevance: This study provides baseline information on oral health status and bad mouth breath which necessitates in the future need for objective assessment, diagnosis and management of bad mouth breath for enhanced social and professional interaction without embarrassments.
