Ectodermal dysplasia is a rare hereditary disorder with a characteristic physiognomy. The case of a 5-year-old child with hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia and complete anodontia is presented. Because of the anodontia and the need for treatment at an early age, the prosthetic management of such a young child can be difficult. Complete dentures were provided to encourage a normal psychological development and to improve the function of the stomatognathic system.

AbstractProsthetic rehabilitation of atrophic ridges is always a challenging task, since treatment modalities, such as ridge augmentation and implant-retained complete dentures are not always feasible due to health reasons, cost factor, etc. This article describes a case report of constructing a liquid-supported denture using a simple, innovative laboratory procedure, which provides a soft tissue surface as compared with conventional complete dentures and added comfort to underlying tissues. It helps in preservation of residual ridge resorption by optimal distribution of masticatory forces and gives adequate retention stability and support.

Edentulous traumatic brain injured dental patients may be treated with dental implant–supported and retained acrylic–based complete dentures. Intraoral components should be minimized to present less of a surface area for plaque accumulation and to facilitate daily cleansing. A zero degree or lingualized occlusal scheme should be used. Prostheses may be truncated for patient comfort and gustatory function, so the potential for swallowing a prosthesis should be evaluated in each patient.

Severe morphological changes and the reduction of the residual ridge in old denture wearers can pose major challenges like providing optimum retention, stability, support and restoring the lost vertical dimensions in the new dentures. In addition, wearing such dentures with decreased or poor function can impair mastication and lead to harmful effects on the nutritional status of the patients. A rehabilitation device, often called a transitional denture or pre-definitive treatment prosthesis often provides a fine springboard from which to construct the second set of dentures. The present case report describes a method to restore the lost occlusal vertical dimension with a pre-definitive treatment prosthesis using the old complete dentures for a patient for him to adapt to the changes before the fabrication of the new complete dentures.

<p class="abstract">According to De Van, the preservation of what remains is of utmost importance rather than the meticulous replacement of what has been lost. Need based use of unconventional approach is a growing demand in prosthodontics in India. The increasing demands of the patients have led to innovative techniques for fabricating complete dentures. Conventional techniques may provide satisfactory results in most patients but may not be suitable in all cases. Cu-sil denture is one of the transitional dentures which is easy to fabricate, saves time as well as reduces the cost of treatment. These dentures provide a psychological boost to the patients and serve as a viable alternative. They not only promote the alveolar ridge integrity but also help in retaining the proprioceptive ability of the periodontium. This paper presents a case of fabrication of Cu-sil denture in a patient with two teeth remaining in the maxillary arch.</p>

One of the most challenging cases dentists face is the rehabilitation of atrophic mandibular residual alveolar ridges. Such ridges present with a multitude of problems such as decrease in the denture foundation, retention and stability. Instability of denture bases can also give rise to an error in the maxillo-mandibular registrations. The neutral zone concept aims at the construction of complete dentures in the potential denture space, which ensures optimal denture contours and physiological arrangement of denture teeth as determined by the patient’s oral musculature, to enhance the stability and function of the prosthesis. This article presents a classical technique of recording the patient’s neutral zone with an improvised clinical step to record the patient’s maxillo-mandibular relation functionally. This technique can be practised routinely in cases of atrophied mandibular residual ridges to provide the patients with optimal complete denture therapy.
