ABSTRACT Peperomia is the second most diverse genus of Piperaceae, with an estimated 1,600 species and a pantropical distribution. This work aims to present a taxonomic synopsis of the genus in the State of Roraima, in the extreme north of the Brazilian Amazon forest and belonging to the central-south portion of the Guayana Shield. Based on collecting expeditions and analysis of specimens in various herbaria, 23 taxa were recognized, with two new records for the State and one of them, a new record for Brazil. The taxa are differentiated mainly by phyllotaxis, shape and size of their leaves, in addition to habit and fruits. They have been found in areas of lowland, submontane, montane, tepui and floodplain (várzea) forests and mostly show a distribution restricted to the Neotropics. Some species in the state are presently known exclusively from Mount Roraima, and restricted to a few specimens.

This study provides the first record of the exotic invasive bivalve Isognomon bicolor for the State of Paraíba, Northeastern Brazil. It has been found to occur in at least twelve coastal reefs along the coast. We also present its first record for the State of Alagoas and new record localities for the States of Rio Grande do Norte and Pernambuco, including its occurrence in hypersaline estuaries. From these records the distribution range of I. bicolor has been expanded to the littoral region of Northeast Brazil, where this invasive species seems well established.

Some regions, such as the Northeast Region of Brazil, are still severely understudied and the trichopteran fauna of this region is not entirely known, mainly in areas from Cerrado and Caatinga biomes. Currently, 25 species have been reported from Piauí State, but most of these records are concentrated from one locality. This study aimed to update the knowledge of Trichoptera diversity in this state, including the description of a new species and new geographic records for the Northeast region and Brazil. The samples were collected in seven municipalities, using various traps. Specimens were also received from the municipality of Bom Jesus. Thirty-two species were added for Trichoptera fauna of Piauí, 14 of these represent new records for Northeast Brazil; furthermore, Neotrichia palma Flint 1982 is a new record for Brazil. Additionally, a new species, Cernotina longa sp. nov., is describe and illustrate, being the third nominal record of the genus for the Caatinga biome. Thus, with the contribution of this study, 57 species, 20 genera and seven families of caddisflies are known for Piauí State.

Diradops is an endemic genus of the family Ichneumonidae in the American Continent; the majority of its species in the Neotropical Region. Seven species are present in Mexico, including a new record for Mexico, D. bionica Ugalde & Gauld, 2002 (previously recorded only from Costa Rica); D. hyphantriae Kasparyan & Pinson, 2007 and D. pulcher Kasparyan, 2007 are new records for the State of Oaxaca.

The fossorial snake Apostolepis kikoi Santos et al., 2018 is known only from its type locality, in Chapada dos Guimarães, state of Mato Grosso, Brazil. Here, we present the first records of this species after its description, expanding its distribution to transition areas between the Amazon and Cerrado biomes, in the southwestern portion of Mato Grosso. The new record expands the known distribution of A. kikoi by 297 km west from the type locality. In addition, we provide data on morphological variation by comparing our sample with the type series.

In July 2016, an important regional checklist entitled “Decapod crustaceans from the state of Ceará, northeastern Brazil: an updated checklist of marine and estuarine species, with 23 new records” was published in the journal Zootaxa (Pachelle et al. 2016). A few days after publication of this monograph, two of our colleagues specialised in the taxonomy of ghost and mud shrimps (Axiidea and Gebiidea), Dr Mônica Botter-Carvalho (UFRPE) and Dr Peter C. Dworschak (NHMW), informed us that the material reported under Neocallichirus maryae Karasawa, 2004 appeared to contain more than one species. Their comments were based on examination of colour photographs showing several specimens identified as N. maryae in Pachelle et al. (2016)’s figure 21. This prompted a re-examination of the material from Ceará identified as N. maryae, including all specimens reported by Pachelle et al. (2016). Despite the fact that most of them were correctly identified as N. maryae, two individuals (MZUSP 32610, 32615) were re-identified as Sergio guassutinga (Rodrigues, 1971) [as indeed suggested by M. Botter-Carvalho and P.C. Dworschak] and Neocallichirus cacahuate Felder & Manning, 1995, respectively. The former species is a new record for the state of Ceará, whilst the latter species represents a new record not only for Ceará, but also for Brazil and the southwestern Atlantic.

The morphology of the adult male of Stylops nubeculae Pierce, encountered in stylopized gasters of two adult bees of Andrena peckhami, is described for the first time. This species was previously known only from the endoparasitic adult female found in Colorado, USA. We report a new locality for this species in Alberta, Canada.

Pilumnus dasypodus is reported for the first time in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, Northeastern Brazil. Sampling occurred in the north and south coast of the state in four locations (the farthest about 500 km of the known south distribution of the species). This new record increases the information about the distribution of this species, showing a possible relationship between the distribution of species and the Atlantic Tropical Ecoregion.

Tropidophis feicki Schwartz, 1957 is restricted to densely forested limestone mesic areas in western Cuba (Schwartz & Henderson 1991; Henderson & Powell 2009). This species has been reported from about 20 localities distributed from near Guane, in Pinar del Río Province, to Ciénaga de Zapata, in Matanzas Province Rivalta et al., 2013; GBIF 2020; Fig. 1). On 30 June 2009 and on 22 December 2011 we found an adult male and an adult female Tropidophis feicki (ca. 400 mm SVL; Fig. 2), respectively, at the entrance of the “Cueva de la Virgen” hot cave (22.8201, -80.1384; 30 m a.s.l.; WGS 84; point 14 in Fig. 1). The cave is located within “Mogotes de Jumagua” Ecological Reserve, Sagua La Grande Municipality, Villa Clara Province. This locality represents the first record of this species for central Cuba, particularly for Villa Clara Province. This new record is about 123 km northeast (airline distance) of the nearest previous record at Playa Máquina, Ciénaga de Zapata, Matanzas Province (Rodríguez & Rivalta 2007).

The genus Schizachyrium Nees includes ca. 60 species, 15 of them previously cited for Brazil. Schizachyrium bimucronatum Roseng., B.R. Arrill. & Izag. is a new record for Brazil and S. lactiflorum (Hack.) Herter, for the State of Rio Grande do Sul. Morphological data to aid in the identification of the two species, including short descriptions and illustrations, as well as data on their geographical distribution and habitat, are provided.
