Abstract This paper describes the situation of solid and liquid radwaste management at Ignalina NPP and changes during the last few years. It also highlights the plans for implementation of new radioactive waste management system with advanced radwaste treatment and conditioning technologies, new storage and disposal facilities, retrieval, characterisation, and conditioning of the historical waste. These activities are very much stimulated by the decision to shutdown the Ignalina NPP Unit 1.
