Fresh fruits and vegetables are increasingly recognized as vectors for foodborne illness. Consequently, an on-farm food safety program was developed, implemented, and analyzed for the Ontario Greenhouse Vegetable Growers in Ontario, Canada, during a 2½-year period. This hazard analysis critical control point–based system was designed to reduce the potential of microbial contamination along the entire production and distribution process. Through the use of microbiological testing, on-site visits, and producer surveys, it was determined that the program has increased grower knowledge, understanding, and awareness of microbial risks associated with fresh produce and caused improvements in practices used within the greenhouse and packing sheds.

Agro-wastes are derived from diverse sources including grape pomace, tomato pomace, pineapple, orange, and lemon peels, sugarcane bagasse, rice husks, wheat straw, and palm oil fibers, among other affordable and commonly available materials. The carbon-rich precursors are used in the production bio-based polymers through microbial, biopolymer blending, and chemical methods. The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) estimates that 20–30% of fruits and vegetables are discarded as waste during post-harvest handling. The development of bio-based polymers is essential, considering the scale of global environmental pollution that is directly linked to the production of synthetic plastics such as polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene (PET). Globally, 400 million tons of synthetic plastics are produced each year, and less than 9% are recycled. The optical, mechanical, and chemical properties such as ultraviolet (UV) absorbance, tensile strength, and water permeability are influenced by the synthetic route. The production of bio-based polymers from renewable sources and microbial synthesis are scalable, facile, and pose a minimal impact on the environment compared to chemical synthesis methods that rely on alkali and acid treatment or co-polymer blending. Despite the development of advanced synthetic methods and the application of biofilms in smart/intelligent food packaging, construction, exclusion nets, and medicine, commercial production is limited by cost, the economics of production, useful life, and biodegradation concerns, and the availability of adequate agro-wastes. New and cost-effective production techniques are critical to facilitate the commercial production of bio-based polymers and the replacement of synthetic polymers.

The Geo-intelligence division of Airbus Defence and Space and the German Aerospace Center (DLR) have partnered to produce the first fully global, high-accuracy Digital Surface Model (DSM) using SAR data from the twin satellite constellation: TerraSAR-X and TanDEM-X. The DLR is responsible for the processing and distribution of the TanDEM-X elevation model for the world’s scientific community, while Airbus DS is responsible for the commercial production and distribution of the data, under the brand name WorldDEM™. <br><br> For the provision of a consumer-ready product, Airbus DS undertakes several steps to reduce the effect of radar-specific artifacts in the WorldDEM data. These artifacts can be divided into two categories: terrain and hydrological. Airbus DS has developed proprietary software and processes to detect and correct these artifacts in the most efficient manner. Some processes are fullyautomatic, while others require manual or semi-automatic control by operators.

Fresh fruits and vegetables are increasingly being recognized as vectors for foodborne illness. In 1998, an on-farm food safety program was developed for the Ontario Greenhouse Vegetable Growers (OGVG) in Ontario, Canada. This hazard analysis critical control point–based system was designed to reduce the potential of microbial contamination along the entire production and distribution process. A previous report (D. A. Powell, M. Bobadilla-Ruiz, A. Whitfield, M. W. Griffiths, and A. Luedtke, J. Food Prot. 65:918–923) outlined the first 2 years of the program; the present report documents the third year of the program's implementation. Through individual on-site grower visits and the microbiological testing of produce and water, the program's OGVG member requirements were determined, and the program's success was assessed. Growers' knowledge, understanding, and awareness of microbial risks associated with fresh produce have increased, and improvements in practices used in greenhouses and packing sheds were noted.

This research started from the need for appreciation to intellectuality, creativity and ideas of every individual, which is known as the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR). The problem arises when IPR was crashed with the mission of learning and empowerment for the benefit of the people. The result of this study was that intellectual property could become public goods if used as a means or tool to achieve the objectives of production, distribution and consumption in order to improve their quality. However, it is done without losing the identity of the inventor and the responsibility of government to procure. Intellectual property as private property becomes syubhat for others in taking it if it is associated with personal goals. In other words, the Intellectual Property becomes halal if it comes from the source of the original owner if it is given as a gift. It is becomes unlawful if it used in according with the goal for both commercial production and distribution levels
