System control performance: Volume 1. Technical manual (Final Report)

Flight motion simulator is one kind of servo system with uncertainties and nonlinearities. To acquire higher frequency response and good robustness for the flight simulator, we present a Backstepping controller based on a Diagonal Recurrent Neural Network (DRNN) to work out this problem. For one thing, the design procedure of the robust Backstepping controller is described. Subsequently, the principle and the design steps of DRNN are analyzed and expatiated respectively. In the end, simulation results on the flight motion simulator show that robust backstepping control based on DRNN can compensate for external disturbances and enhance robustness of the system control performance. Therefore both robustness and high performance of the flight motion simulator are achieved.

A modified technique is introduced to understand the design of Integer order PID controller. Due to simple tuning rules, conventional PID controller has the great success with the automatic tuning feature and tables that simplify their design. The Integer order PID controller show better robustness performance with the comparison of PID control's experimental to Heating control system (HIL). In Integer order control, design of simulation model of system can be designed straight forwardly with design specification based on frequency analysis which can be change continuously. The simulation analysis and real time results shows that Integer order PID controller is more effective way to enhance the system control performance.

Electric servo system (ESS) is a servo mechanism in a control system of an aircraft, a ship, etc., which controls efficiency and directly affects the energy consumption and the dynamic characteristics of the system. However, the control performance of the ESS is affected by uncertainties such as friction, clearance, and component aging. In order to improve the control performance of the ESS, a control technology combining particle swarm optimization (PSO) and finite time servo system control (FTSSC) was introduced into ESS. In fact, it is difficult to know the uncertain physical parameters of the real ESS. In this paper, the genetic algorithm (GA) was introduced into PSO and the inertia weight was improved, which increased the parameter optimization precision and convergence speed. A new feedback controller is proposed to improve response speed and reduce errors by using FTSSC theory. The performance of the controller based on PSO identification algorithm was verified by co-simulation experiments based on Automatic Dynamic Analysis of Mechanical Systems (ADAMS) (MSC software, Los Angeles, CA, USA) and matrix laboratory (MATLAB)/Simulink (MathWorks, Natick, MA, USA). Meanwhile, the proposed strategy was validated on the servo test platform in the laboratory. Compared with the existing control strategy, the control error was reduced by 75% and the steady-state accuracy was increased by at least 50%.

Passive Dynamic Control (PDC) is a new type of mechanical system control method based on inherently safe design. It uses passive elements (braking effort) with variable characteristics positively. In this paper, PDC is applied to a material handling device, and a PDC air balancer is developed using a Magneto-Rheological (MR) brake and a torque sensor. Its control performance depends on the operation of the MR brake, not on the operation of air pressure. Compared with similar conventional devices, PDC air balancer is used with heavy objects for intuitive operation with lower highly-safe actuating force.

Networked munitions system is becoming more and more important with the development of modern electronic technology. This new generation of ground-based munitions are much more intelligent for the capability they have to trace targets, communicate with each other and order a killing node for vehicles caught in the kill-zone . It is useful to study and attempt to model through simulations the interaction between enemy targets and the whole munitions system . This paper is to propose a simulation-based model to study the performances of the weapon system. Especially, the sensors which sense the environment and the weapons which attack the targets are connected with wireless networks that will bring time delay to the system. We focus our efforts to evaluate how time delays from wireless communication affect the control performance of the weapon. This study introduces models for sensors and communication routing mechanisms , as well as the servo system and vehicle targets. A series of simulation trials to analyze and compare the effects of time delays have on the killing efficiency. The results of the study indicate in general that communication delay have the most effect on the systems.
