Applying the microscopic nuclear physics ideas for fusion reactions to macroscopic galactic systems, we study the evolution of the compact binary galaxy in mass asymmetry (transfer) coordinate. The conditions for the formation of stable symmetric binary galaxy are analyzed. The role of symmetrization of asymmetric binary galaxy in the transformation of gravitational energy into internal energy of galaxies accompanied by the release of a large amount of energy during the symmetrization process is revealed.

The crypto-steady rotating jet pressure exchange ejector is a novel concept in turbomachinery where two fluids, at different energy levels, come in direct contact with each other to transfer energy and momentum between them through non-steady interface pressure forces. The current paper seeks to provide an insight into the complex flow phenomena occurring inside the radial flow pressure exchange ejector. The primary mechanisms controlling the process are pressure exchange and mixing. This paper will seek to discriminate between energy transfer by each respective mechanism. The energy and momentum transfer in the near field is shown to be mainly due to the pressure exchange process, as the mixing layer does not develop substantially in this region. As the radius increases, the mixing layer tends to grow and the energy and momentum transfer is governed by the mixing process. As a consequence, the length scales of the pressure exchange zone are small, thus making the pressure exchange ejector more compact in size. The paper will delineate between the two length scales. If this new concept is shown to be viable for gas compression at sufficiently high pressure ratios, then, in refrigeration applications, it would enable environmentally benign refrigerants to replace the harmful chlorofluorocarbons (CFC) and reduce the effluence of greenhouse gases. Applications in many other areas, where conventional ejectors are currently used, are also possible.

The role of microwave reflection observations and particularly the magneto. microwave Kerr effect in the study of plasma surface phenomena is discussed. The method makes possible the absolute measurement of high electron surface densities in a density region not readily accessible to other experimental techniques, and it gives an indication of the collision frequency for momentum transfer.

The BGO-OD experiment at the ELSA accelerator facility uses an energy tagged bremsstrahlung photon beam to investigate the excitation structure of the nucleon via meson photoproduction. The setup with a BGO calorimeter surrounding the target and an open dipole spectrometer covering the for ward region is ideally suited for investigating low momentum transfer processes, in particular in strangeness photoproduction. The associated photoproduction of K0S and hyperons is essential to understand the role of K* exchange mech anisms. A cusp-like structure observed in the yp → K0SΣ+ reaction at the K* threshold is described by models including dynamically generated resonances from vector meson-baryon interactions. Such interactions are pre dicted to give a peak like structure in K0SΣ0 photoproduction off the neutron. A very preliminary cross section is determined and compared to the prediction, the results appear to support the model
