The sewage diffusion effect under deep water was carried out between different diffuser design parameters based on the hydraulic model test, and Huizhou Dayawan sewage marine disposal project was taken as an example. The experimental results show that the design parameters are significant for sewage diffusion at the near field. For Dayawan project, jet angle was controlled to be 20 degree, and horizontal angle was controlled to be 90 degree. It not only can ensure that sewage fully diluted mixed, also can avoid the premature convergence and sewage lifting. It is feasible for selecting large angle nozzle under deep water and there are some technical bases have been provided for other sewage marine disposal project.

Physical and numerical model studies were performed in order to study the flow conditions for the proposed pump station of Shuangwangcheng reservoir, Shouguang Ctiy. The flow velocity and the pressure distribution in the bidirectional culvert of Shuangwangcheng Pump Station had been obtained by hydraulic model test and numerical simulation. The physical model was constructed to a Froude scale of 1:20. A general conclusion was that, the computed results were good agreement with the data measured in physical model, and could be good complement for physical model test. Furthermore, negative pressure existing in discharge steep culvert in the initial scheme design was eliminated by moving the culvert controlling gate to the end of culvert in the modified scheme, and the flow conditions was improved.

The Stability

This paper covers the chronology of events at the east abutment of Outlook Bridge on the South Saskatchewan River from 1936 to 1981. It traces the early discovery of deep scour, a failed attempt at remedial action, a model test, a successful solution with riprap, and later, the addition of a guide bank.Abutment scour on the prototype under flood conditions was observed to extend about 5 m below the footing, endangering the stability of the structure. Attempted remedial measures using bags filled with sand–cement were unsuccessful. An analysis of the river regime was undertaken and a 1:100 scale hydraulic model was constructed and tested. The model indicated that either a guide wall or riprap apron would give the required protection. Riprap was selected on the basis of least cost, but a guide bank was added at a later date to further improve conditions. Key words: bridge, scour, hydraulic model, riprap, guide wall, guide bank.
