This research aims to analyze the impact of sodium tripolyphosphate (STPP) as a rheological modifier of concentrated kaolin slurries in seawater at pH 8, which is characteristic of copper sulfide processing operations. The dispersion phenomenon was analyzed through chord length measurements using the focused beam reflectance measurement (FBRM) technique, complementing size distributions in unweighted and square-weighted modes. The reduction of the rheological properties was significant, decreasing from 231 Pa in a reagent-free environment to 80 Pa after the application of STPP. A frequency sweep in a linear viscoelastic regime indicated that by applying a characteristic dosage of 0.53 kg/t of STPP, the pulp before yielding increases its phase angle, which increases its liquid-like character. Measurements of the chord length verified the dispersion of particles, which showed an apparent increase in the proportion of fine particles and a reduction of the coarser aggregates when STPP was applied. Measurements of the zeta potential suggested that the high anionic charge of the reagent (pentavalent) increases the electrostatic repulsions between particles, overcoming the effect of cations in seawater. The results are relevant for the mining industry, especially when the deposits have high contents of complex gangues, such as clays, that increase the rheological properties. This increases the energy costs and water consumption needed for pumping the tailings from thickeners to the tailing storages facilities. The strategies that allow for the improvement of the fluidity and deformation of the tailings generate slack in order to maximize water recovery in the thickening stages.

Numerical studies are conducted to research the performance of a kind of lift-drag type vertical axis wind turbine (VAWT) affected by solidity with the CFD method. Moving mesh technique is used to construct the model. The Spalart-Allmaras one equation turbulent model and the implicit coupled algorithm based on pressure are selected to solve the transient equations. In this research, how the tip speed ratio and the solidity of blade affect the power coefficient (Cp) of the small H-VAWT is analyzed. The results indicate that Cp curves exhibit approximate parabolic form with its maximum in the middle range of tip speed ratio. The two-blade wind turbine has the lowest Cp while the three-blade one is more powerful and the four-blade one brings the highest power. With the certain number of blades, there is a best chord length, and too long or too short chord length may reduce the Cp.

Measured steady and unsteady section lift and moment coefficients at two spanwise locations on a surface-piercing ventilated hydrofoil are presented. The foil, of wedge cross section, was supported vertically, and submerged one chord length from the tip. Excitation in rigid-body rolling and pitching modes to the cantilevered foil produced the unsteady loads. All tests were made at a nominal angle of attack of 12 deg.

A development is undertaken to determine possible configurations for multiple row or tandem blades for blowers. For the individual rows of the airfoils, changes in blade number, blade camber, and chord length are analyzed. Modifications in the arrangement between two blade rows are made and tests are presented to determine the optimum design. Tests are shown regarding the effects of changes in blade number and blade solidity. The tests indicate that two row blades are capable of larger flow deflection with associated flow deceleration than single airfoils. The development makes it possible to reduce the number of stages for multistage blowers.

The relative merits of using scintillation counters or proportional counters in a very large area (~100 m2) telescope to search for a flux of relativistic quarks are considered. It is shown that proportional counters are more satisfactory for large-area detectors and that counters 10 m long and 14.5 cm in internal diameter filled with 90% argon, 10% methane gas should give a signal of ~2 mV at the input to an emitter follower on the passage of a relativistic e/3 quark along an average chord length.

This result is not as expected to generate sufficient energy.The next development carried out investigations on some kind of airfoil, from investigations obtained by using Qblade software that NACA 6612 has a value of 1.78 CL at 15 degrees angle of attack is the largest of all the airfoil .In this research, NACA 6612 will be simulated with a variable chord length, angle of attack, and wind speed, of these three variables will be created which will map graphics 3d sliding value of the ratio of the 3 variables, this graph will give recommendations most optimum combination of variables to types are mapped wind speed throughout the year, to produce optimum power.Optimum combination of NACA 6612 with wind speed varied from 2-7 m/s is chord length 30 cm and angle of attack 7 degree.
