Motivated by the noise analysis in the feasibility study of gravitational wave (GW) detection with atom interferometry, the propagation of both massive and massless particles in a linearized GW background is investigated. The geodesic from the GW background is worked out, which shows that along the transverse direction, the trajectory of particles will be perturbed by the h× polarization of GWs. Fortunately, this kind of perturbation is far below the requirement on the pointing stability for the present GW detectors and proposals.
