Intussusception, the invagination of a portion of the intestine into itself, is one of the emergencies in infancy and childhood. The etiology may be idiopathic or secondary to some pathology within the wall of the bowel. Most cases (90%) are idiopathic with no identifiable lesion acting as the lead point or pathological apex of the intussusceptum Children may present at any age but this occurs most commonly in the first year. The mode of presentation may vary depending upon the time of presentation. A case of intussusception confirmed with the help of an abdominal ultrasound in 10 month old infant who presented with only persistent vomiting but in the absence of classic features is reported with brief review of literature. Primary cardiac tumors of any type in infancy and childhood are rare, with a prevalence of 0.03%reported in autopsy surveys carried out at children's hospitals. Within the pediatric population, the most common primary tumor involving the heart is rhabdomyoma. These tumors may bedivided into 3 groups: 1) arising in tuberous sclerosis; 2) arising sporadically; or 3) arising in congenital heart disease. Many cardiac rhabdomyomas are asymptomatic and regress early in life without clinically untoward effects. Only a small proportion of these tumors come to the attention of the pediatrician and pathologist when there is obstruction of blood flow, a murmur related to subaortic stenosis, or arrhythmias. Rhabdomyomas may be detected prenatally during ultrasound examination, with one case being diagnosed at 22 weeks gestation. Although it is possible to subdivide the tumors into 3 groups, the association of this entity with tuberous sclerosis is very strong with at least 60 to 85% of children with rhabdomyomas having tuberous sclerosis.

Although the general ultrastructure of Cyanidium caldarium, an acidophilic, thermophilic alga of questionable taxonomic rank, has been extensively studied (see review of literature in reference 1), some peculiar ultrastructural features of the chloroplast of this alga have not been noted by other investigators.Cells were collected and prepared for thin sections at the Yellowstone National Park and were also grown in laboratory cultures (45-52°C; pH 2-5). Fixation (glutaraldehyde-osmium), dehydration (ethanol), and embedding (Epon 812) were accomplished by standard methods. Replicas of frozenfracture d- etched cells were obtained in a Balzers apparatus. In addition, cells were examined after disruption in a French Press.
