PUB Singapore has been developing the membrane bioreactor (MBR) technology for water reclamation. The MBR technology has significant versatility and can be applied for production of industrial water or combined with reverse osmosis to produce NEWater. The MBR technology offers greater opportunity for process intensification and further enhancement to achieve water sustainability. Compared to conventional treatment, MBR is a 3-in-1 solution that combines bioreactor, secondary sedimentation tank and microfiltration/ultrafiltration in one single step. The advantages of MBR include process robustness, superior filtrate quality and compact footprint. Progressing from pilot studies and demonstration testing, the MBR technology is currently implemented at full-scale in Jurong and Changi Water Reclamation Plant. Moving forward, PUB continues to embark on R&D in developing innovative MBR systems for future application that includes the forthcoming Tuas Water Reclamation Plant as part of the Deep Tunnel Sewerage System Phase 2 project. This manuscript provides an overview of R&D initiatives for developing the MBR technology for water reclamation spanning more than a decade at PUB.

Kisspeptin or GPR-54 is a product of KISS 1 gene regulating the production of gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH), luteinizing (LH) as well follicle stimulating hormone (FSH). Both LH and FSH are important hormones for reproduction in animals as well in humans. The recognition of Kisspeptin has a landmark bearing in reproductive biology. Few recent pilot studies have convincingly proven it to be a promising molecule in treating infertile couples especially those having hypogonadotropic hypogonadism not responding to conventional treatment.

Abstract Application of membrane technology for water reclamation has grown significantly in recent years due to reduced footprint size and more consistent product water quality. For a membrane bioreactor (MBR) system, it is critical for it to be robust to allow membrane systems to operate at higher flux without significant increase of trans-membrane pressure (TMP). A full-scale ceramic MBR system was installed at Changi Water Reclamation Plant (CWRP) as part of an MBR retrofit project to increase treatment capacity without expanding the plant's footprint. The nominal capacity of the ceramic MBR system is 15,000 m3/d. The system has been successfully operating since January 2017 with a net flux of 30–60 L/m2-hr (LMH). Stable operation was observed at nominal production capacity for more than 3 months. During that period, the TMP was stable in the range of 9–14 kPa for Tank A and 10–17 kPa for Tank B. Permeate turbidity was recorded in the range of 0.04–0.06 NTU for both Tank A and Tank B.
